you don't need to be wartecher to use a S rank dagger. You can be fighgunner and use the sweet death, deva zashi and two headed ragnus.

I would say, get 2 high % 9* with some grinds instead of a worthless 12% S rank. This will make you much more effective in combat and save you tons of $. Only two S ranks I ever synthed were a Sweet Death and a 2-headed Ragnus. Both came out 14%. I sold the S.D. for 5 mil and the Ragnus for 2. I laughed all the way to the bank. =)

Anyway, on topic, I think you should go ahead and try out playing as a Wartecher. If you don't really like it, go back to playing a Fighgunner.

If you decide you like Wartecher more, then you'd have to get the Deva-zashi. But if you stick with Fighgunner, you can use a bigger selection of S rank weapons.

And if you do make the final decision to play Fighgunner, then your S rank weapon of choice should be Sweet Death since that is a Fighgunners staple weapon of choice, since only Fighgunners can use double sabers.

Its also the least expensive of the S rank double sabers out there so far, of course considering the percentage/element.
