For those of you who post videos of psu, what software do you use to capture the video?

if it's 360. Dazzle 150 is a pretty standard capture card that most people use when recording. Me, I use a dvd recorder.

How good of quality is Fraps' .wmv videos? I've been toying around with a few apps and it seems that .avi is the best format to record video on a pc, but the files are huge and cannot be uploaded to youtube. I've converted some avi files to wmv but the quality goes way down. Any suggestions on this? My knowledge of recording video is very small.

I use a Dazzle DVC100 with my Xbox 360.

I do in fact play some PC games while recording.

I don't recommend FRAPS unless you feel like wasting some money.

If you want to try a 30-day free trial, try a FUNCTIONAL one like Camtasia Studio 4. I liked it so much that I actually payed the money to activate it.

As for quality decreasing issues, I can recommend using Windows Media Movie Maker to "Save Movie File" >"512kbps for broadband" which automatically converts it to a good quality 320x240 video for YouTube.

if it's a 360, one of these beatiful things:

http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-WinTV-PVR-150MCE-Personal-Recorder-Profile/dp/B0006G36VI/ref=sr_1_13/102-1882763-3708146?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1186342993&sr=1-13

using a dscaler instead of the program that came with the pci input

Well now that I have a PC (as opposed to a laptop) maybe I should get one of those, Gir. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I have a few open video card slots, and I sure as heck could use a nice Capture card which takes extremely high bitrate videos, considering mine only goes up to 2mpbs... http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

No problem. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I'm quite skilled with videos and video editing, I just don't really put a whole lot of effort into my own work. :/

For PC video editing, you only need three things:

1. FRAPS or a comparable video capture software
2. Virtualdub for editing the video
3. Windows Media Encoder to compress the video to whatever file size you want

Or you can just put it on Stage6. No need to convert it from avi, and i think no limit.

Yes definitely Stage6 is actually one of the best (probably THE best) for uploading videos, since it doesn't downgrade your quality, you can upload DivX, and there's no time limit. The only thing holding you back could be a slow internet connection.

it works surprisingly well since i started to use it with the dscaler. at the begining i almost shat myself cus the orginal program it came with lagged really bad. but i asked tech support and it works great now with the dscaler http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

What does virtualdub actually do, just conversion? If so, what file formats does it support? I'd like something that deals with MPG or MP4.

I use Virtualdub for editing only. I can set the beginning and end, cut out sections I don't want, resize it, sharpen it, de-interlace, apply subtitles (with a plug-in), whatever I want really. You can use any audio/video codec that the AVI format supports to compress your video, but I prefer Windows Media Video for compression, which is where Windows Media Encoder comes in. Both of these are free software too.

I'm using Hauppauge but a different kind.

That's how my quality shows up.

My quality is awesome with a USB capture card, but it has some issues with color.
