This is a brief overview of Alex Craig's game for RM2K3.

Chapter 1: Search for Friends

After their home town was destroyed by invading barbarians, Alex Craig and his companions, Chris Sharlog, Stephen Sharlog, Kian Tuohy, Mike Massong, Eric Field, Alyssa Preston, and his brother David Craig, decide to use what little money they had left to rent a ship and sail to a land they had heard of long ago called Balset. About a week or two of high seas had made them all a tad stir-crazy. Just as they were about to lose their minds, the southern lands of Balset, Mayfair, was in sight. They were all overjoyed at the sight of land, however, it was not to be without a price. A great snake-like red dragon overtook the ship. They were not even able to draw their weapons before the ship was obliterated. Alex blacked out as he was consumed by the sea.

When he awoke, he was alone. For many leagues, all Alex could see was wide open plains and sparse woods. In the far reaches to the north, where the land began to incline, mountains were able to be seen. Alex used them as a bearing and headed for the mountains. The closer he got to the mountains, the more a small town was able to be seen at their base. Entering the town, he learned that he was, in fact, in the town of Mayfair, the southernmost town of Balset.

The villagers looked depressed and had their heads hung low. According to them, a band of goblins had infiltrated the watchtower in a forest to the east. Most of the guards came back safely, but the villagers fear the worst that the tower was just the first target. Alex felt like helping the people of Mayfair, but he felt it was a concern for the soldiers and not a lost traveller like himself. An old man told him that many of the soldiers have left to prepare for war against the kingdom of Kossas in the northwest.

The same old man also told Alex that along with the armies being mobilized, a strange young man he has never seen before has been in the pub for the past day. Strange occurrences like these are not common around here. So Alex, thinking about the man in the pub and his lost friends, headed for the pub to investigate.

The bar was full of the towns patrons. And though there were many of the village's people, one person was on the lips of the people of the bar. A scraggly young man dressed in ragged robes was sitting at a table in the corner of the room. Bottles devoid of beer and other liquors dotted the floor around him. Alex recognized the drunk as Chris Sharlog, one of his friends. Alex managed to sober him up and got him to join Alex in trying to recapture the watchtower, which Alex finally decided to do. On they went out of the town and toward the east.

Alex and Chris soon found themselves at the edge of a large forest. From a distance, they were able to see a tall gray tower jutting out of the green roof of the forest. This is where the goblins took over, they figured. They followed the dirt path that wound its way directly toward the tower. The wooden door that once hung on its hinges in the doorway was shattered and flung onto the path. They quietly entered the silent tower.

As they ascended to the third floor, a few goblins leaped out at Alex and Chris. Alex with his sword and Chris with his bow summed up a decent pile of goblins. Just as they were about to investigate the room at the top of the tower, a larger band of goblins surrounded them. As they closed in, a figure dropped from the ceiling and took out some of the advancing goblins. A young man with a green bandana around his head and many toolkits lining his belt. It was Kian, another of Alex's friends. Joining them, he aided Alex and Chris in defeating the goblins.

With the tower secure, the group returned to Mayfair to explain their deeds. More than a little sarcasm flowed from their mouthes. But in any case, Alex was glad he could help. Alex was confused as to why the soldiers had gone to war and why a war was beginning. The villagers did not know the reasoning behind it, but told the PCs that if they wanted more information, they should head for Fallas, the imperial city of Balset, in the north. Alex felt the war would be pointless, but he did want to see the imperial city. According to the villagers, the fastest was to Fallas was to take the mountain pass, east of the watchtower, and head north. The boys wanted to find their friends, so they thought this would be the best way to go.

On the PCs went across the vast plains of Mayfair, through the forest paths, past the silent and still watchtower, and finally reaching the base of the tall mountain range that made the notheastern border of Mayfair. A large crevace was able to be seen by the boys in the distance. Thsi must be the pass the people spoke of. The pass in the mountain was more like a deep, often rising, gorge in the mountains. It turned and twisted around mountain after mountan, until it reached its apex. A tall point in the pass that allowed the boys to see far off into the distance of a foreign terrain. From then on, the pass looked straightforeward. A noise, however, deterred them from going any further. A large beast in the form of a gigantic tortoise with a serpent for a tail was not far from the pass. It was in combat with a young man. The group fought the gigantic beast and saved the man. This person was wearing rustic looking armor and had short cut black hair. He introduced himself as Ryan Barrie, an exiled knight of Fallas.

The group asked him why he was in combat with the large beast. He said to them that he was trying to get to Mayfair when the beast lunged at him. When asked why he was exiled, he merely turned his back to them and said, "That's personal". He told the PCs that should they evr get in trouble, look him up, as he is used to such a thing. They said their goodbyes and continued on their way to Fallas.

The plains in front of them were massive, more so than Mayfair. The directions they recieved told them to go north until they see the imperial city of Fallas. Sure enough, they saw the city, glimmering like a tower of white stone going from one side of the great Tessen Mountains to another. The approach the city and enter just in time to see an elderly man standing atop a staircase giving a speech to a large group of knights in front of him.

"My royal knights," he declared, "hear my words and listen to them well. You all heard of the sheer audacity caused by the damned knights of Kossas the other day. Many an innocent's blood was spilt on their behalf. But I assure you all that the people of Kossas will suffer the same fate as we. To halt any other attacks on our beloved city, I declare that the nation of Fallas will do a complete take over of the nation of Kossas!"

Once the assemby was over and most of the knights had left, the PCs head over to the elderly man. He introduces himself, with some hesitation, as Emperor Gwyn Falsen of Fallas. When the PCs say that they are searching for friends and that they have yet to find the rest of them, he pauses for a bit before suggesting to them That they could check the the nation of Laisle in the southwest for them, but to be careful, as a war has just begun. Once the PCs leave, the Emperor calls one of his soldiers.

"Those boys... follow them."
"Why?"
"There is something about them. I would like to know what it is."
"Sir?"
"Do as I say. I must confer to my new council."

The soldier does as his emperor says and follows the boys.

When the PCs get to Laisle, they see a vast forest in the distance. It seems much larger and thicker than the one in Mayfair. It is definately a place Mike Massong would like to visit and hang out in. The PCs follow the forest path, but it is soon lost with the overgrowth. After much wandering and getting lost in the woods, the PCs spot a man dressed in forest green robes and hair. He was sitting on a hill dotted with trees playing a flute happily. It was definately Mike. After much arguing with Mike and discussion about what happened to him, Mike finally decides to join the PCs. He gets up, dusts himself off, and leaves the forest with the others.

End of Chapter 1: Search for Friends.

Chapter 2: To Battle! To War?

With Mike in the group, the PCs decide to explore the city of Laisle. The town in small, similar to Mayfair, but is more city like than Mayfair. There, they hear news of the nation of Kossas in the northwest. The news they heard was mostly about Kossas not wanting war and that it is an island in the western sea. With news of Kossas not wanting war, Alex decides to go visit the Emperor of Fallas to see if he will reconsider and talk to the king of Kossas. But when the PCs get to the valley that separates Laisle from Fallas, the soldier of Fallas hired to follow them stops them. He tries to tell them that the Emperor is not right in the head, but before he could, a strang force overtakes him and mutates him into a dragon-like man in armor and he attacks the PCs. Unwillingly, the PCs fight him until he is dead. They return to Fallas to inform the emperor.

The Emperor is surprised to see them so soon. Alex explains to him what happened with the soldier.

"You are sure of this? That is not good. I did not want to tell you about this, but it seems I have to. The kingdom of Kossas has a shrine in it that houses a powerful force. That force, when used for war, can overthrow the mind of a person and can even change him into something evil. I am ashamed that it had to be a knight in my order to be affected by this."

While the PCs talk to the Emperor, he eventually comes up with an idea. He asks them to go to Kossas and infiltrate their government and provide Fallas with any information about what the nation is up to. The PCs agree and head for Laisle to get a ship to Kossas.

When the PCs get to Kossas, it is not the uptight and boistrous nation they were led to believe it was. Instead, they were welcomed with open arms by a proud and happy people. But the people were also in dismay. Not long ago, a captain of one of their armies was slain, supposedly by soldiers of Fallas. In retaliation, the sent the captain's soldiers to Fallas to get revenge, but all of the troops were killed.

When the PCs see the king of Kossas, they see and old man who is kind at heart and noble of mind. He shows them around the kingdom with the greatest of ease. When asked about a "shrine" housing a "force", he shows them a sealed door in the side of the mountain. A shiver ran down all of their spines. The king said to the PCs that indeed there is a powerful force sealed in the chambers within, but it has not been opened in centuries.

When the king left them, the PCs were joined by Captain Kenneth Klinger, the highest ranking soldier of Kossas. The PCs rested in a house while Alex explained the situation to the captain. They decide to do some snooping around, as per the emperor's request in Alex's mind. Eventually, Alex leaves the PCs, aside from Mike, in Kossas. Alex and Mike head back to Fallas to do some investigating in the Imperial Academy. Mike mostly wanted to see the famous Imperial Library that was talked about a lot in Fallas.

In the library, they meet Chris Nocchi, a scholar of the library. He serves under the high scholar of the library. He is curious to know why they are looking for information on the shrine of Kossas, and aides them in finding scrolls and documents about it and the kingdoms of Balset. He also tells them if they need info on anything, just ask. Alex tells him to keep looking for info as he heads back to Kossas. Mike decides to stay in the library, as he adores old books, scrolls, and papers.

Upon returning to Kossas, Alex discovers that Ryan Barrie came to Kossas while he was away. With Ryan and Ken, Alex searches for any information that would aid either nation. Their first stop was the study of Archduke Villesse of Kossas. There, hidden amongst things, they find documents abd a large chest of gold declaring treason under the king of Kossas. The documents state that Archduke Villesse would send knights to Fallas to get them killed, thus starting war. It was signed by both the archduke and the emperor. Alex was astounded that he was being used by the emperor. Ryan and Ken keep the evidence safe while Alex heads back to Fallas with Kian and Chris.

I hope it will. I have yet to figure out how. I think a root problem would be that the PC include 7 males and 1 female http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif BUT! My friend Ryan (featured as the exiled knight in the game) is a flirtatious kinda guy and he does know Alyssa (Also featured in the game. well, time for my late night opinion. Seems like you got a good enough start for the story, albeit some of it seems be a collage of other RPG stories, but then again after so much time there is very little originality in anything, wether someone thinks of something themselves or or not. You got a nice setup, though it seemed pretty obvious from the start the emperor was just using them, which brings into question the main character guillability. Not to mention, the main character has just lost his friends, but instead of strictly searching just for them, he involes himself in matters of stately and wartime affiars, involvning nations he really has little to no clue about in the first place. As a freind I'd feel pretty damn forsaken >_>

however, as a device to add character into the party as the game progresses, it works fine. I would think that was more what you had in mind in this case. and if Doomsday is behind that door, I am so going to unlock it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
