View Full Version : Was anyone dissapointed about vehicles?

Before PSU was released, my friends and I watched videos of PSU which made us really excited. We all started talking about what we'd do and I was one of the people saying I'd never lvl cause I'd always be in lobby's dancing and in club, or doing races on hovercrafts. Now 10 months later I just realized after all this time no vehicle missions for Online mode ;3; Did anyone else get dissapointed from this?

The hoverboat racing part is in the Famitsu Cup's first 2 blocks... but that's it. Once Famitsu is gone, it's gone too.

Now that you mention it, yeah... I picked the tanks, but I remember getting excited about the "watery-eyed dinos" (lol) beause it reminded me of the chocobos (can I say that here?).

I really fail to understand why Sonic Team hasnt released the vehicles yet. Give us some areas on Moatoob that are freekin' long, where you have to protect the tank so it can blow up the walls. Sorta like an escort mission, except that one of the players is the escort. I think that would be AMAZINGLY fun. Also, throw in a few enemies that are WAY overleveled for the area that you basically NEED the tank for, and you have a recipe for an amazingly fun mission.

Floaders should also get more than just races. Realistically, we should be able to use our weaponry while on those things, timed strikes would be a blast while zooming past an enemy just so you can slice it. Same can be said of Lunga's, although they do have an attack, so im not AS worried about that.

Very well put i whole heartedly agree. We also could use them vehicles to set up all kinds of missions.Instead of the same kill this or that escort missions n the like would be awsome.Sure not everyone would like them but most of us agree we need varity.

Also i realy wanted to pilot the tank or usea floader or hover board to get from place to place T_T

Yeah you're right, like ST has the setup to make som really awesome missions if they do things right. Don't get me wrong though because ST atually has been doing a great job as of lat releasing new items and such IMO.

Just coming from games like RO and FFXI, I'm pretty spoiled and i always like having something new and different to do. People can come in and say "if you wanna be like those games so much then play them", it's not that I just want PSU to have the same broad horizon of things to do like other MMO's.

It's really a matter of balance and novelty. As stated before, you need a really good setup for a vehicle based mission. Some things that need to be addressed are as follows:

-Multiplayer? or Online story?
-If Multiplayer, how hard would the mission need to be so that players don't just steamroll right through?
-If its the tank, who's designated the driver? (VERY sure you're not going to get 6 tanks in one area here.)
-If the mission is too easy, the reward is scaled down very much, with the exception of party missions. Given the mentality of most players, would it even be worth the effort to put in such a mission if everyone is going to continue to flock to high payouts/many rares types of missions once the novelty wears off? How about if the vehicles were limited to one block?

While they could make a vehicle mission and make it pay out really high amounts, do we REALLY need another HSM? Especially given the ease of most vehicle based missions? (According to offline that is)

Just my 2 meseta.

I first expected to be able to ride vehicles around huge, open plains to fight mobs and bosses and see other parties in the field as well xD; I shouldn't have expected too much from PSU, but I'll be glad to have vehicles around soon. Now, I don't see a point in vehicles since PSU's maps are rather short and with the new PAs coming out, we'll be as strong as a Tank already xD

Well at the same time I'm thinking, they don't HAVE to use the vehicles as a mission per say... Basically the way i first thought of vhicles is kinda like DJ. I figured you'd have a vehicle to get you around the worlds faster.

I still think they should incorporate that, like instead of people doing C mad creatures to get to raffon base, there could be like a short "mini-game" type stage where you basically just use a vehicle to get to next are without having to fight pointless enemies and to save time. If anything those kind missions wouldn't be a reward you have to pay a small fee like 200 meseta or something. I don't know just thinking too much I guess xD

i enjoyed the block of floaders in the newdays famitsu mission. i hope ST puts more vehicle missions in the game. if they arent that good, then you can choose not to play em, but its nice to have more options.

Yeah, I exppected 3 huge planets to explore, and having to take a real-time shuttle from planet to planet. (like.. at xx:05/xx:35, moatoob's shuttles would take off. At xx:00 and xx:30, guardians colony shuttles would take off, xx:10/xx40 neudaiz, and xx:15/xx45, parum's shuttles would take off.)
We'd have been able to roam the entire planet.. with a multitude of cities and different sectors of the planets to explore... Perhaps.. let's say.. 100 cities per planet? and 1000 fields all containing monsters that respawn over time..
But, I like the instanced idea they used better in some ways... Now we don't have to worry about the lvl 90's running around in the lvl 1 areas killing things to stop the newbies from leveling =p
I envisioned vehicles being our main mode of transportation across these planets. (start out with a hoverboard that you carry at all times, it'd be faster than walking but slower than the rest. Be able to rent a tank for heavy power, slowest aside from hoverboard, lunga.. 2nd fastest with a medium attack power, then a floader for high speed/no attack.)

That's just how I saw things back when I was DL'ing BB while talking to my friend on PSO GCN about PSU. =p

Sega phails at making this game any better than just spamming x mission all day. I hope expansion doesn't entail me on doing the same thing as I'm doing right now. Yeah, there can be other things to do than spam a mission all the time lol (i.e like that hovercraft racing crap, somethin else to do), Sega just phails at it haha.

If you haven't riden the vehicles yet, you're going to be dissapointed. Most of them control like crap with very short missions and really no point to them. The flouder is probaby the best vehicle in the game - but it's still pretty crappy.

Also the Lunga looks nothing like a Chocobo... it's more like a mutated mix of the Chicken Leg and Fireball Dragon from Golden Axe. Good god it's a retarded looking creature. You know what woud have been cool to ride? Grass Assassins. At least, how they looked in PSO - you could so put a saddle on that shit and scuttle across the desert. It's got a long reach too, so it's attack would have about the same distance as the Lunga's fire breath. Plus, they would look cool as hell when they reared back and screached!

You're the only person I know so far where you seem angry everytime you type *if that's even possible* lol. Yea the dino's are pretty retarded looking. But I really didn't mind the vehicles or the missions, I mean this is all based off of offline missions which all in all are pretty short anyway.

Floader races would be a cool thing to have instead of say (dare I utter the word?)....PVP O_O >.> <.< I mean combat competition probably wouldn't go well in PSU but racing competition....now there's something I could get into XD A cool idea but something I don't ever expect to see would be customizable racing vehicles lol. You couldn't max out all stats but have like better steering, speed, acceleration, etc... so that the people with all the money couldn't have the "best" necessarily.

I was excited to use the vehicles in offline story mode until I actually played their missions. The lunga was okay, I guess. Kinda bothered me how I had to find food powerups just to stay on the damn thing though.

The floader controlled like a piece of shit (especially for the low speeds at which they traveled) and the course had arbitrarily-placed boost power ups that you NEEDED to pick up to get a good rank (Or was it merely to pass the mission?). While my expectations were low, I was still let down. But...

...the Striker, wow. I honestly could not imagine how badly they could fuck up tanks until I piloted a Striker. First off, no rotating turret so no cool shit like strafing runs or attacking enemies behind you while you move forward. (I wasn't expecting this anyway, but still...) Now the big part: The camera is simply awful. You can barely see anything in front of you because the tank takes up almost the whole fucking view area, and the camera was not made to compensate by moving upwards and panning down or something. Manual camera control does little to remedy the issue because the camera auto-defaults to the original sucky position after letting go of the right analog stick. And if I remember right, collisions with enemies do nothing. Some tank.

Yea, it's darn they didn't add vehicles online.
There was so much buzz, and I'd SWEAR they said something to the effect of 'yea you're gettin' em online' buy game plz. The tanks were supposed to be multi-person where like 1 steers and other shoot. There are so many things they could use the vehicles for to keep it interesting. Even if the mission was 'eh' and had some lungas for 1 block people would still go on it for the novelty factor.

But, previous posts are right. They bungled the vehicles so badly that if they were online, prob no one would/could do them. The tank won't steer, the floader goes out of control or fails if you don't power it up and lunga hates your camera. Racing wouldn't work because they didn't bother to evolve the camreas/controls any to allow for it to be fun. And why? I mean people raced the CHAIRS. How hard can it be?

Hopefully illum will fix this.
PSO had Cmode, Chair racing, Soccer, BA, quests and free lvls. We got...story and quests. We're still short most of its variety despite other sophistications. While EVERYONE didn't Cmode (or whatever), it was it's own little niche of fun that drew in more dudes...something PSU/AOI really needs. Vehicle races/lvls I'd bet would act the same.

stukasa
Aug 14, 2007, 08:01 PM
I was never that enthusiastic about vehicles so I picked the last option. However, for the sake of variety I wouldn't mind seeing a few vehicle-related areas and minigames (like races). Somehow I doubt we'll see anything like that though (besides that one Famitsu mission)...at least not anytime soon.

I was dissapointed in the vehicles but not for the same reason as everyone else. I didn't like the vehicles were implimented in offline story mode. I just wanted to get in there and hack and slash stuff and instead the game was forcing me to do somthing that I did not find enjoyable at all.

As for vehicles in Online mode. The lack of vechicles Online does not surprise me considering the multi-player nature of the game. It would have been difficult to impliment

A vechile mission would rock my socks! heres my goofy
vision: 3 blocks. ppl required+4? simple get to blk 1 to Blk 3.
mission objective: Protect cargo as the tank makes it way down Scorched Vear Valley!
I'd say this would be perfect for a Motabb mission, have this huge tank of a machine go down this canyon path with steep walls on both sides and the only way to go is straight, but along the way maybe monsters
(Vandra/navels/soldiers?) on the cliff jump down on the top of the "tank" and you have to go on top there to kill them off before they damage the tank to much and then the mission is failed or something? The tank will have a huge life bar somewhere on the screen and as you progress the monsters get harder and maybe around blk 2 the tank stops for some reason(maybe overheated?)The NPC driver yells" Weapon system almost online!", but if u get off theres a recharge cube and life portal near by. Everyone rushes off for refill goodness while the tank engines cool down. Hence a wave of baddies you must fend off from gettng to the tank arises!( I guess thier AI on this mission should be altered to hurt you but hurt the tank more then?) well after said X amount of monsters/time are killed the tank is ready for action again! Now on block 3 you have both monsters jumping from above and maybe different type monsters in your path this time! (did i metion teamwork is ++ here? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif ) Now the tank weapon system comes online(just now b/c of lag http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif )
Almost at the end here! I promise! Well 3 gunner spots pop up at top of tank. Heavy duty awesome laser cannons, you see the city coming up, but then the tank stops again!? WTF? A wave of Bil de vears
stand in your way, but nasty Vandra's jump from the canyon above! You must work as a team to bypass this danger and deliver your much needed cargo to the next town! just my thoughts..sorry if I ranoff topic http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

That's quite a good idea, actually. Rather than just being able to "teleport" to a lobby for a fee... they should have somewhat short single-player vehicle missions to undertake. Maybe even give the option to buy and use your own vehicle which you can upgrade and customize for higher tier vehicle missions.

You could then use your own customized vehicle for special events - like flouder races. There would be several different "cups" you could race in depending on your vehicles level of customization. In the case of animals, you could switch to different breeds. Like the Lunga would be the first animal vehicle you could own - then trade up by completing missions to other mounts, like a Grass Assassin, Bil De Bear, or even a giant rappy for special events.

Then you could just up and stick your Striker tank into your Nano-Transformer - kinda the way Alis used to nonchalantly shoved the Ice Digger into her back pocket.

Sorry for late response, I don't come here during weekend. Anywho a bunch of my irl friends just went to dinner and discussed it and they agree that we pretty much seen things wrong in the previews. Coming straight from FFXI we were already pretty spoiled from exploring such a huge world we kind of forgot that sega does/did things abit different. We figured the planets we're all life size *well not life size* but wide open area's to explore not just stages. So we kinda let ourselves down thinking that way lol.

Well I was expecting PSU to have tank or floader's in a mission maybe guarded by hordes of monsters making it hard to get into anyways. Or a NPC in a tank you have to command in a mission. Although PSU is awesome, I think they could have more variety.

Medic
Aug 20, 2007, 09:59 AM
Also I would like to point out the fact that there should be different cities. 1 city on an entire planet seems kind of odd. Even in a Phantasy Universe filled with monsters. Maybe ST could make multiple cities and have vehicle transportation missions to get to each one.

Yeah I was also hoping for other cities, but alas we're stuck with one. Maybe we'll get more in AoI. It'd be cool you know after completing a few missions and ending up in a new town. Would make it seem like you're actually traveling around on the planet.

Yeah, that's another point. When I first seen previews on PSU I thought there'd be like 3-5 cities on each planet... I mean for one city... seems to be really small worlds *don't mind the pun* xD

At the same time it does set up a lot of room for expansions to be setup city wise

Well, I imagine if they overhauled the tank so that it actuall feels like you're driving 66 tons of strait up, H.E. SPEWING, DEE-VINE INTERVENTION, it would be a likeable addition. As for who gets the tank, do it like most games, first one in gets to drive it. Also, I kinda liked that water level, so it could be like a 2 block shortcut level with multiple routes going to various lobbies with absolutely no payout, so people don't spam those levels for easy money.

I dont get the vehicles. First off, the vehicles were poorly programmed into the game IMO.

Then, while Beasts and Casts get these cool race-specific abilities, the humans and newmans are hanging with nothing, although the ability for them to summon vehicles would be a fine choice for a Human desperation attack. Give them a certain HP value or Gas/time limit, and you have an awesome way to lay the place to waste.
