And so it begins.

sticky eyelashes
pollen tickles your nostrils
roused with a sneeze

waking from a dirt nap
memories are wispy ghosts
a rustling in your ears

eyes open, the world unfolds
a brief dazzling of light--then blue
corn stalks overhead

far from home and bed
what strange transplant made by night?
muffled voices grow near

A. I close my eyes and remain still, waiting.
B. I get up--not too quickly; I'm still feeling woozy--and look around me over the corn.
C. I roll off the narrow path on which I lie, concealing myself in the corn.

4 votes for a given option required to advance. Go!

B, for another tidbit of story

gingerly rising
unsteady legs sway like stalks
chill breeze raises hairs

bobbing dark heads spied
voices weaving foreign sounds
fearful twinge in my gut

suddenly, silence
shadowed faces swivel and lock
target sighted

A. I decide to play it safe. Let the unknown figures make the first move.
B. I realize there's not much point in being shy. I call out "Hello".
C. I don't know about you, but waking up mysteriously in a cornfield god-only-knows-how-many miles from home + running into strange men speaking in strange tongues = something bad. I turn tail and run.

You guys are just a bunch of sheeple, going with the herd. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_clown.gif

tense moments a year long
three men--men?--arrayed 'gainst one
only the ground speaks

low rumble underfoot
the trio startles as one
a foul air blows in

they huddle together
argue and gesture nervously
distant bloom of dust

a decision reached
six hands beckon, "come! follow!"
all nature is hushed

As the three men take off, running east, away from the dust rising on the horizon...
A. I follow them. What else can I do? They certainly seem afraid of whatever it is coming from the west.
B. I make a break for the woods I see distantly to my right--but seemingly nearer than the cloud of dust.
C. Frankly, I don't trust these guys; they give me a funny feeling. Even in the daylight, they seem impossibly shadowed. I run towards the gathering dust.

Apologies for the tenuous narrative thread. This shit is harder than it looks. Shoulda gone with prose. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_clown.gif

I follow three dark blurs
ripening fields to each side
breathless prey racing

o'er-shoulder glances
the feared-thing gains, grows, pursues
a flock shoots skyward

four men of flesh tire
wordless agreement: we halt
the trio turn, draw arms

dust swirls through the air
ten thousand circles of teeth
a snarl of gears and valves

hydraulics pump six limbs
a giant, coppery beetle
clanging towards us

corn stalks bend and snap
my muscles are fixed as stone
mice await the hawk

the metal beast pants
hissing drops slide down its sides
six legs come to rest

a door opens--hiss
three blue-masked men descend
behind me, guns click

an awkward affair
caught, confused, 'twixt two unknowns
shit, where are my clothes?

A. I back up slowly until I'm safely (?) behind my three companions (?) with the firepower.
B. I crouch down and crawl off to the side. I'd feel a lot better if I weren't standing between these dudes, 'cause it looks like there's gonna be a fight.
C. I try to look relieved and nonthreatening and cute and approach the three masked beetle pilots.
