Hi everyone http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I am thinking of starting to play PSU, but before that there are a few matters I'm confused about. I've looked through a lot of stickies, but there are so many that I can't even keep track of which ones I've checked and which not. So I hope maybe one of you could help me out. One question I have is about billing, I'd rather not find out the hard way after purchasing the game that I don't have the means to play online.

I live in the Netherlands and neither me nor anyone else close to me owns a credit card. I just registered at Playsega.com to check which alternative means are possible and found out a creditcard isn't necessary. I couldn't find how this worked exactly though: How do you purchase the 30 days playtime once at a time? Is it similar to World of Warcraft with a code you buy at retail stores or isn't it?

Yes I said World of Warcraft, I was quite addicted (not proud of it) and its the main thing that kept me away from this game for a long time, but I finally quit the game a few months ago when the content and community stopped interesting me. I'm sure this will be a refreshing experience, I've played PSO on the GC for a little two months (twice using the free 30 days playtime as I didn't have a CC back then either) and I really enjoyed it.

My second question though. How is the community right now, compared to when PSU just came out? I don't wish to step into a game where only the elitists are left and I have a lot to catch up. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

So how is it? Are there enough newbies like myself left, or even a decent stream of new players coming in?

Then finally, I have a question about how the expansion works. Do you simply upgrade your current installation and are you able to play with people who don't own the expansion?

Thanks in advance for your responses. Once again I've done my best scrolling through the stickies so I hope you don't mind if the answers are already around somewhere.

i take it that you would be planning on getting the PC version, my guess for the expansion would be that you simply install the new game, dunno if you will indeed need the original.

the PC/PS2 servers are slightly harder to make an up and comming character on these days because of the population unfortunatly.

i have a couple of friends who play (off and on actually..) they live near you, they don't use a credit card either they buy their play time some other way, i'll ask them next time i see them what they do

Thanks Realmz that would be great. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Zorafim I originally posted the topic in the Lounge forum since it was sort of an introduction. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

There are cards you can buy that you put money onto and they act as a credit card. You can pay for them with cash in a store and then they can be used in the same way a credit card would to pay for billing, but without the actual owning a credit card part.

EDIT:: Sorry, I don't know the name of the card etc. but I have heard of people using this method to play PSU/FFXI in the past.

psu has got to be the best thing since sliced cheese... the community is full of lots of cool people, and the weapons are ever evolving into cooler, flashier weapons.

Hey Kang, and welcome to the PSOW community.

I believe one of the best ways to pay for your account is to use Visa gift cards from local stores if you don't have acces to any other type of cards. You just pay and activate at the store, and it's ready for use.

The community at this moment is compact, yet there are a lot of great people. There's a variety of levels to be with so you shouldn't really feel left out once you join in. There's always new players aboard so there's plentiful chances to level nicely at a normal pace.

The expansion should be easily an upgradeable CD/download on top of the original game if you were on the PC version. I believe the PS2 version would have some sort of patch after buying a direct copy of the game. The 360 version has a downloadable copy straight from xbox live.

-Cheers

Well, a recommendation I have for you as far as billing, see if your local Pharmacy or some sort of gift shop has prepaid debit cards...You can keep them forever (I'm not sure if they expire) and you can keep putting more money on them. You can use their 16-digit numbers just like a credit card, and they're easy to keep track of via the internet.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I'm still trying to find a way to get around having no credit card. I don't believe Visa gift cards are available in Holland as we have our own national-only debit card, same reason we don't have other prepaid debit cards as far as I know. I'll keep an eye out anyway.

If there are any other Dutch players on this forum or if you know any Dutch players, I hope you/they can give me an answer to the only issue that is keeping me from buying the game right now. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
