View Full Version : ultimate is hard
i just got to ultimate mode on my GC pso. it is VERY hard. i have to shoot about 20 times to kill each monster and they hurt me about a fourth. that is, except for the hidelts. they nearly kill me in one hit sometimes. so far im offline, but in a few days i should be able to go online. im a lvl 70 Ramar, what do you think i should do?

Just get a King's Rifle (Preferably a lower lvl rifle, so you get more hits with it before you kill, more hits = more xp) and put a bunch of Arms on and go to town, my roommate can pull like 1800 xp off one Bartle with his kings beam and so in the first few rooms you'd lvl like mad.. this should help for awhile, but once you get up to mid 80's to 90's that probly won't be enuf xp anymore (takes about 50K and up after that). Just make sure you stay near the door and also try and learn where you can get some of the enemies stuck...
The only prob with this is that you won't be collecting much stuff, just a good, easy way to get xp.

Keep doing the Fake in Yellow quest. Rappies are easy exp, and you'll eventually run into a Pal Rappy.

You think it's hard as a Level 70 RAmar? Welcome to the wonderful world of Ultimate. I got to Ultimate Sunday as a Level 71 FOmarl. Ugh... >_< now that's hard.

I find Ultimate to be rather easy this time around, compared to the Dreamcast version. All my characters have reached Ult in the 50s so far and have no trouble trouncing anything in the Forest or Caves. I find it easiest with my FOnewearl. At level 55 she put any hunter 50 levels higher to shame with her rediculously powerful spells. Now she's almost 20 levels higher and making a severe mockery of everything in the Forest and Cave. Her only disadvantage is her low HP, so I haven't dared to try the Mine, Ruins, or Episode 2 yet.
Online is about 1.5 times harder than offline, though. You have to judge what is the best method for attaining experience. If it takes you a couple minutes to kill one critter in Ultimate, then perhaps you're not ready to be there. Kill one critter in Ultimate and time how long it takes. Then go into Very-Hard and fight using that same amount of time. If the experience you gained from Very-Hard was more than what you gained in Ultimate then you're better off fighting in Very-Hard until you've gained some levels. However, the slowness of Ultimate may be worth it if you can find some good items. You have to weigh the positives with the negatives and then decide from that what you want to do.
thanks for the tips. i kill guys in about 15 seconds each. my crush bullet used to be great for lvling, but now in ult it sucks like hell. and phalanx, i forgot about fake in yellow, that should be some easy(well, easier) exp, and i get angry fist from el rappies.

Hard? are you serious? Whad you expect? it to be a walkin the damned clouds?! Come on seriously. If it were easy that would void the whole reason it's a stage after Very hard called ULTIMATE

Yeah, Ultimate is extremely gimped compared to how it was on Dreamcast... Or maybe the weapons and spells are just a lot more potent. Either way, my Lv62 FOmar (at the time) was able to get through Forest and Caves quite easily offline.
Of course, I've ALSO been playing for almost two years, so I'd BETTER be a little good. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif
Anyway, I say stick with it. Basically, it's just like VH but the monsters move a LOT faster. This alone makes it difficult, but once you get used to it, it's not so bad. If you're having trouble, move in and out of the room and do a little "cheesing". As you probably know, when you move back out of the room, the monsters will reset their positions, usually leaving them open to a few attacks. If you're a RA or FO, you'll be able to get in some nice hits before you have to run either back out of the room or out of way. HU have it a little tougher starting off probably, but it's not all that bad for them either.
My motto: If it doesn't kill me in one hit, it's easy. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Dyne can do Ultimate Sea Bed herself at 153 =P. FOnewreals seem to have it made.

I was there at 38 with my HUmar. . . . (lol)
There is a pic floating around here in a thread by me called "Ult at lv. 38" or something like that for those of you that missed it first time around.
I too have been playing for a good while (*remembers PSO on DC back in april of 2000 I think. . . .) I went and bought a DC just to get this game, it still is the only game I have for it. (except for some cheesy football game a friend gave me for letting him borrow my DC) always wanted to get soul calibur though. . . ..
*realises he went way off topic
*cough
*ahem

yeah, Ultimate is tough, but it used to be FAR worse. I remember my HUmar using Shifta and deband and Jellen and Zalure and barely breaking 100 damage with a hard attack around lv. 95ish. (v2 of course).
That was hard. . . .
miss, 42, 44
miss miss 40

miss 67 94. . ..

The easiest way, in my opinion, to gain levels in Ultimate mode is by doing the Quest "Battle Training." Kireek is on level 186, yes LEVEL 186! Nothing in Ultimate Forest can even come close to damaging him (well, maybe a Hildetor, but you won't see any Hilde's during the quest.), use him as a human shield, and just shoot the enemies from afar. When you get to the room next to where Ash is, just Telepipe out, quit the Quest, and do it all over again. I think you get about 9k experience per run (not too sure), and the quest can be done easily enough.
Get up to whatever you feel is a decent level, it may take awhile, but it is definitely the easiest way to level up. Heck, one time I seen a Pal Rappy during the Quest, but alas, no Red Partisan.
