Do you agree that a utopia is a fool's dream or if it is possible once man gets over some of his vices?

I ponder what would happen if we would set up communities where science would not be checked by morality?

Some sweet shit would occur but you know how man operates. :E

There were several actual experiments like this set up several years back, and they all failed miserably.

if it ever became real, the term Utopia couldn't be applied to it any longer.

in all seriousness though, no, I do not believe humanity has that kind of potential.

INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR A MEANINGFUL ANSWER.

My belief is that a utopian dream cannot become reality. We need evil in the world to show us whats good, if there wasnt any evil in the world we would not know what 'good' is as we would have nothing to compare it to. So basically good needs darkness and darkness needs good. =p Therefore it is is logical to assume that utopia cannot be obtained.

I do believe we have the potential to create a dystopia

True but that also would take some effort as well.

...Someone's been having some fun with BioShock.

And no, a utopia is fundamentally impossible. You know, kinda like the idea of Anarchy working for modern society...

We're getting closer, but still not there. Compare our world with a thousand years ago, when the root of power was often drenched with blood. A thousand before that, the sickly were considered evil, and half the human population or more was considered as worthwhile as a shepherd's lamb. A thousand before, humans were used to their limits before being thrown away. Compare that to what we have now, where even a human with a deteriorating mind or a violent hand has rights, and is treated better than the common animal.

What needs to change isn't every human's morality, but the concept of it, or the rule of power. When the world was ruled by one man, he could change the laws on his whim, making a living hell for anyone he pleases. Now, with a landmass ruled by everyone's concept of right and wrong, we can rull out the bad ideas and implement the good, and learn the difference between the two in the process. Even if every human is evil, using the correct techniques we can create a perfect world.

Its possible for each of us to have their own personal utopia, as society in its entirety is disfunctional.
