View Full Version : Why does everyone...

Why do all of you seem to think the November 20th release date for AoI is a solid one? There's been no mention of any release date from Sega, but everyone is speculating dates for content updates around it like the date was set in stone.

What the hell?

Xaeris

Because that's the date Gamestop has it as.

...So yeah, wishful thinking sums it up nicely.

lol, people trust Gamestop? A lot of people assumed a certain date because of the JP release. I wouldn't be surprised if this was delayed. In fact, I'm expecting a delay.

Ffuzzy-Logik

Well, if I recall correctly, that date first appeared on the JP website that broke the news of the official JP release date for AoI, so it has at least a slight degree of credibility. It'll still probably change, of course.

There's some sort of unspoken law around these parts that we absolutely positively have to follow the Japanese update schedule with no exceptions, even though that hasn't been the case since March.

Usually when it's the only thing to go by, that's what people believe. Yes, it should be regarded as just a date Gamestop put up, but it's still all we have. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if it was moved back a bit.

Its not only Gamestop but Amazon.com also has the 11-20 date. If you are so doubtfull of this date what do you think is the correct date? PSU in NA was released about 2 months after JPN pc/ps2 so why would this pattern change?

Pillan
Aug 24, 2007, 11:09 AM
I'll go out on a limb and say the reason for people to be skeptical of this date is because EVERY game in the PSO series was delayed at least 2 months and PSU itself was delayed a whole year.

However, I'd agree that the US version will be released approximately 2 months after the JP version. It's just whether or not the JP version gets delayed that I'm still curious about.

I don't have a theoretical date. That's the point. I'm not doom-saying the Famitsu Cup event over a date some company put up to be able to sell Preorders. Maybe Amazon saw Gamespot's date and figured they'd go with it?

Seems you lot suck at math, because November 20th isn't even a month off the original release. Your two month cushion puts AoI out in December.

It doesn't make any sense to me, but whatever.

I think people stick to this date in their mind, and THEN doom say about the Famitsu Cup, because in the end, everyone on PSOW is a fucking masochist.

Or just retarded. I can't tell the difference here anymore.

You should check your reading comprehension there buddy boy. I said NA AOI will be released around 2 months after JPN pc/ps2 AOI. JPN AOI pc/ps2 9-27, NA AOI 11-20 thats just a few days under 8 weeks.

JP will get theirs earlier than US.

(Hell, I'm not surprised if we get a beta for AoI.) I'm expecting it sometime in January '08. Hopefully EU can get it the same time it is released in the US.

Don't trust gameslop! Nov. 20th wouldn't be too bad though. It's before SSBB and GTA4 has lost it's hype because of delay! IGN.com(IGNorant) usually has good release dates.

I have totally forgotten about that. The EU release usually messes up everything. You lot are so worried about the US an JP release date it feels that the EU is left in the cold.

The reason I'm quite worried about the date of the EU version(or an EU release at all) because of the fact we have missed so many othe gaming titles (including PSO BB, someone correct me if im wrong because I have yet to see it here). So you can understand my concern for a release date. But I really hope we do get it...

First off, that's 7 days under 8 weeks, which makes that 7 weeks.

Second, that doesn't make any sense. Why would we be getting content faster than the JP population? For someone who idolizes the Japanese update schedule, you sure are quick to chuck it out the window once a retail outlet chain fabricates a date.

I'll put money down on us not getting it on the 20th.

Golto
Aug 24, 2007, 03:18 PM
Now who's bad at math? 9-27 to 11-20 is 54 days or 2 days short of 8 weeks not 7 LOL, 7x8 = 56, The only calendar month that is 4 weeks long is February on non-leap years. Most months are 30-31 days long.

So far the only things are we getting sooner are some lobbies and accompanying rare monsters.

As of right now we are 12 or 13 weeks behind JPN pc/ps2, but we should be only 7-8 weeks behind. I don't see where you get the idea of us getting update content (missions, equipment) sooner than the JPN from my schedule?

If our AOI releases are two months apart like they were for this version we would still have a month's worth of updates remaining for the old PSU when NA AOI is out.

We'll see 8-31 how the last updates will be handled and if they fix their big plunder by not catching us up to the 8 week behind schedule when they had the chance.

Holy fuck, nobody gives a shit about the date being kinda close or very close under 2 months. Come on.

I already KNOW everyone on PSOW sucks at math thanks to synth percents on weapons. We didn't need to argue about days to know this.

That's my fault for not actually doing the math. I just assumed. I can admit when I've made a mistake.

Seeing as the 360 still hasn't gotten the death patch, I'm not holding my breath for AoI arriving in November. But we'll see.

Anyway, people are just assuming it's november 20th to say "least it'll be out in four months",so it's a false hope, that CAN be true.Otherwise it's like a smoker, they chew gum until they get the cigarette to keep them satisfied.

You have a good point there, I didn't think of 360 holding back the NA version of AOI. Seems they have to jump through hoops with microsoft too much. Since the 360 version of AOI is ?download only? we only have the tenative release date of Q4 for that.

Well like I posted earlier August 31st should be a make or break moment for us update wise.

Who else, but you, ever said EVERYONE thinks that's the solid date? Speak for yourself and only the particular people you've heard.

In reality, the exact date doesn't make that much of a difference. Date aside, it comes out in November.

And if you live an area heavily populated by geeks you personally know of, or you plan to get AoI from a store in a mainstream major mall, you'll be screwed unless you preorder. Unlike me, since I live in an area where there are barely any children and just a bunch of old snobby rich people like myself, and I can just waltz on down to Gamestop knowing it'll be there on w/e day it's released. Maybe even the day before.

Well, it's just that generalizations seems to always be true here, I figured I'd make one of my own. (That's sarcasm, for all the slow people out there) And there appears to be a large number of people around here who think that date is a solid one, myself excluded. I didn't actually think anyone would take the statement literally.

It also seems to be of importance for the people attempting to predict when and content we'll get.

I don't have to preorder the game. Xbox 360 users get to download the expansion from the Marketplace, and I sincerely doubt the expansion will sell out anywhere to begin with.

And check your Inbox.

I'm pretty sure SEGA announced Fall 2007. And since Nov. 21st is the first day of winter, they put Nov 20th as the tentative release date to have a date to tell people, since that is logically the farthest it'll be released, without getting frustrated people on their hands later on from getting to their release date without having it released.

Now that you know this, you can stop whining. (Not that anyone actually will stop.)

BFGfreak

Need I remind people that when Bungie publicly anounced Halo 3, they put the initial release date as Fall 2007, and gamestop listed it's date in November as well. Now seeing as how they were a bit off (almost 2 months, or, the other end of the season), for AoI, I'm just going for a fall date (Hmm, October anyone)

Ffuzzy-Logik
Aug 25, 2007, 08:09 PM
October? No way.

November 20st is certainly possible, though I'd expect something in mid-late December, and no later. The fuss people are currently making over Famitsu is nothing compared to the shitstorm that would ensue if AoI got delayed to next year.

The original game is not required to play AoI, so while the basis of it may not be new (same characters, same graphics, same system), the rest of it sure is. All the lobbies, the hunting areas, casinos, character customization, weapons, etc. are being done from scratch, this isn't just a slightly larger update where you can substitute pannons with rappies. Final Fantasy X-2 didn't come out until 2 years after Final Fantasy X did.
