So .. I have been really thinking of getting PSU I did play PSO single player with my friends for about a year or so, I think it's about time we let go http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif So we wanna get PSU, my questions are..

1) How is it? Is it much much different being on Live than single player? I tried mission mode at a friends house and absolutely hated it, I thought I was playing final fantasy again and that wasn't what I was there for. I'm used to the old PSO where you can grind the same level and stuff like that.. No I didn't get far.

2) Is xbox Live the only way to create my own character and build it up? Could I ever use this character off line by myself?

3) In order to get xbox live for this game specifically, is a keyboard really a must? I don't mind.. but i'd like to know what else I need to get in order to make this game that much more enjoyable http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

4) I really look forward to joining the PSU community on xbox live, but im curious.. how is the population? I hope the game isn't like dead and abandoned http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

5) Do the developers keep constant updates coming to the game? Example: Christmas tree's on Chrismas or something like this, etc

Edit:

6) How much is it? I know Live costs one payment, is PSU going to be another one?

7) Normal xbox360 controllers work right?
... If I posted this in the wrong section I do apologize http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Move it or close it and tell me where I can repost

Thanks everyone in advance, hopefully see some of you online soon http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Note; I am posting these questions on a PSU forum because i'd rather hear my questions answered by players more than any other source.

Thanks~!

1) It's great. Story Mode and Xbox Live Modes are pretty different, the difficulty is kicked up online, more/better/different weapons and such online. You'll be able to grind and hunt to your heart's content online.

2) You could play Extra Mode if your grind your way through Chapter 4 of the Story Mode. It's a cross between a watered down online mode and story mode. But no, your characters cannot jump between online and offline. If they are made online, they stay online, and vice versa.

3) It's not a *must* but you won't be talking fast in lobbies. You can use a headset to talk to people in your own party at any time (even in lobbies) or in your room, but talking to people not in your party in the lobby will be a slow process. And on that note, having a headset makes shooting the breeze mid mission so much easier.

4) It's not dead, usually 2,000+ players on at peak times now since school has started back up for most.

5) Yes they do, another update is scheduled for this Thursday night/Friday morning.

6) $9.99 a month to play online. You don't have to pay for Live Gold though if you don't want to.

7) Um, yeah...of course they do...why wouldn't they?

Thank you Sychosis

I'm honestly going to run to EB Games today. Buy the xbox, buy the game, everything then come home and kick back like old times http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif Im currently playing world of warcraft and i'm quite sick of it..

Oh and about the controller question, was just me making sure I didn't waste my money because I was supposed to get some special control or something.

Appreciate it.. if anyone else wants to just tell me some other things that'd be fine http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Cause im like 95% clueless about this game.

Wait a minute what is the difference between silver and gold? I wouldn't want anything that restricts some of the game http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I appreciate your post Anduril

Gold let's you play online with most games, you have to pay for it. Silver is free but restricts you in that you can't play online with some exceptions (PSU for example), and you can't play any demos that require online use.

As a side effect of having a Gold membership, you can participate in SEGA's Demo weekends which give you novelty/gag items every so often if you play the PSU demo on both days of the weekend it is scheduled on. In fact, there is one coming up this weekend http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I recommend you use your 1 month free Gold trial for this weekend's Demo Weekend. You can see how the online mode plays and if you sign up soon after the Demo Weekend is over you'll get a Real Hand Spear placed in your common box (shared storag space).

Or if you're still unsure of spending a bunch of money without knowing how the game plays, maybe you could convince your friend to download the demo and let you have a crack at it (provided he has a Gold membership)? Just be warned, the Demo occupants are a rather depraved sort. The monthly fee does a good job filtering out the bad apples. Also, the content available on the Demo is the same content we had at release. So it's missing about a year's worth of content :/

OK, silver is your basic Xbox live account, from what I understand, you can have friends, download certian items, and I think you can play a small amount of games (I know that most games require you to have a gold membership)
Gold, on the other hand, allows you to do everything you can in silver, and play online with your friends
Now, the way it works is you're default is Silver (which is free), but for a monthly fee (roughly 7 dollars a month), you can upgrade to gold and not lose any of your stats from silver. If you decide to cancel your gold subsciption, (or if you run out of time with the prepaid cards) it automatically bumps you down to silver, again without losing your stats, you just can't play with your friends until you either renew your subscription or buy another prepaid card. You can buy prepaid card practically anywhere, and they come in 1 month, 3 month, or 13 month (12+1 months) cards, also, they have bundle packs which include a free arcade game code, and some ecsecories also come with 1 month free.

Now I'm not sure, but I think that PSU requires a Gold mebership to play online, but again, I could be wrong.

Edit: That's what I get for being on 3 seperate forums at a time, I post 15 minutes late.

50 dollars yearly translates to less than 5 bucks a month for a Gold account, but the actual price varies on where you are (US, Mexico, EU, etc.)

Gold is not needed to play the full game but is required to DL the demo. It is not required to play the demo, either (we've tested this).

Finally, getting a year of Live just for PSU is not a good idea.

Like Syc said I don't wanna be stuck with the group of cheap people http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Will pay for gold if it's that much better.

As long as you have a Guardian's License (monthly fee payment) you'll be able to play PSU with everyone else who pays. It's only the people who refuse to shell out $10 a month that are stuck on the Demo.

Yes, the Guardians License is all you need to play with everyone who has one too and no one who only plays the demo.
