View Full Version : banning?

I heard a rumor online that on Jan. 1st Sega is going to ban all people that have duped items...how fair is this...first they allow the dupe bug and trade duped items to legit players (and if the banning is true) get them banned...it looks like a dark future for PSO if this rumored ban is true...can anyone confirm this?

I really doubt this is true, because how can the tell when an item is a dupe, or who uses the dupe bug? It's not like cheat devices where there may be some evidence left behind. People suggested this for the DC version but it wasn't possible for the reasons I just mentioned. There's probably nothing to worry about.

Frankly they would lose half there subscriptions (HL's) or even more. It would have to be something like if you join a game with a duped weapon than a screen pops up telling you its a dupe and that to play you cant use that item. I remember something like that in the DC days, but it had something to do with hacked ones im pretty sure

There are two reasons why I think this is a hoax.
1) They would have to ban soooooo many people for doing little to nothing wrong, say just trading one of their legits for something they didnt even know was a "dupe"
2) Everyone on there lies like dogs nobody on there knows anyone from sega let alone the guy from sega is explaining how they are gonna ban people all the while he is killing a booma

if sonic team would've got rid of the dupe bug in the first place, we wouldn't have to worry about this...I wouldn't mind if sonic team deleted all dupes and rid the dupe bug...but it seems they won't delete it...if they do delete it, the GC gameshark will be out...say goodbye to pure, honest online gaming forever...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

You can't ban cause you can't identify the duped items.

That said, I would be filled with joy if it did happen (but, it won't)

Couldn't someone dupe something like Monos and pass em out while hunting around or something? If the People didn't use em... ehhh...

not true, it does work on if you have a bba. Also the pc -> gc link isnt really sonic teams fault so not sure if anyone can blame them for that one.

Actually, there is a way to track duped items... or does no one remember when they cleared out dupes in ver. 1 (they let you keep a single copy, every other copy went poof)? Or how about they made it so you couldn't bring hacked weapons in a game? Anyone who thinks they are going to ban HL's that have duped weapons associated with them is insane though. There is no way for the average player to tell if they have traded for a dupe (barring %'s, and that's not foolproof). Jesus, I read more half-baked rumors on this site than in a freakin supermarket tabloid. Chizill peeps! ;p

There was no sure-fire way to track duped items at all if their type and stats were in the range of legitimacy. The servers were programmed to recognize each type of item and what stats they had. Sonic Team could program the server to ban certain items and have the server kick a user who carried one of these items (ie. Nei's Claw back in ver.1). But by doing this anyone who had that item couldn't play online. They only did this to items that there was no legit method to find them in the game. They won't do that this time simply because there's a legit method to find pretty much every item in the game now. They won't punish the few honest people by trying to stop the bad apples. With the stats, they originally programmed the server to kick a user with a weapon that visually had more than 61% (since legitly a weapon could only get as high as 60%). This proved ineffective in version 2 when it was discovered people could mod weapons with hidden stats that the server couldn't see. Armor/shields were also hit with a stat cap (can't remember exactly what it was), but it was still too high and even a weak suit of armor could be modded with rediculous stats.

Oh it would take only one very simple thing for Sonic Team to put an end to duping. The question is would they (or COULD they) do it?

i dont see any way to stop duping, since the code of every same item is the same (i.e. every double saber with the same stats/grinder has the same code)..
every item would need an unique identifier, since finder's hl-number wont work due to trading...

only way to stop duping would be server side saving, which would be a pain (no offline mode, duh... and then losing characters in server-swipes...)

ya they can read whats in your bank... like they did in v2, v1 was only read when pulled out

ehhhhh, no, they couldn't read your bank, if they could, then well alot of people would be banned, because I know some who had a few banned weapons.

And that's the only way I can see anything happening, is if they start to make a list of what is "banned" but the thing is, EVERYTHING, is obtainable from a enemy. I don't see how they can ban anyone. I mean it's their own fault that the dupe bug even exists, because of their sloppy programming.

Hopefully, they'll fix these bugs in future incarnations of PSO.

Actually the US bug has nothing to do with sloppy programming like the jp bug.

How can sonic team program to fix someone ripping out there memory card? They can't unless they use serverside saving. How can sonic team program to stop people creating phone lag to prevent there game from saving?

With the current way pso works with saves on memory cards sonic team can basicly do nothing.

Ok...I dont think that there is a DUPE BUG in the US
version of the game...they would have done something
like they did with the JP version, and they wouldn't
have joined the servers if there was a BUG in the US
version!

Sorry but you're not allowed to post information on how to cheat. The forum rules are very explicit when it comes to this.

Well, that just told anyone who wanted to know how to do that how to dupe. That's just as bad as posting a straight out cheat code.

I really didn't know that it wasn't allowed!
