View Full Version : Does ANYONE play PSU...

PJ

...not for number crunching, not to get the best time, and have the best equipment, or use the most efficient PAs, or have the most efficient teams for certain missions, look for ways to speed up runs in anyway, but does anyone play PSU for FUN?

Am I the only one who logs into this game, ready and excited to have a fun game with my friends, as we do missions slowly to have hilarious conversations that are filled with literal lulz.

It just always sounds like people are trying so hard to be so efficient that this game sounds like a JOB. In my Splendor Crush topic, Kef said something along the lines of Bogga Danga being the most useless PA in the game, and at first I thought, "Wait a flying fuck second..." then I realised, hey, he was right. But Bogga Danga is easily one of the most FUN PAs in the game, and so I use it. A lot. In fact, it's probably my favourite PA of all. And it just sounds like, people go out of their way SO much just to prove what PAs are better, what classes, what races, etc are better than others.

So that pretty much sums up why I don't seek out PSOW players to play with. That, and since, from what it sounds like on the forum, a force that uses Resta constantly is a noob force, well, I don't want to go into a game and be called a noob for keeping my team alive...

I haven't met anyone on PSU who really cares. You only hear about all the efficiency stuff on the forum.

Personally, I just like playing with numbers to support my point. I don't really care in game and just do whatever I want as a Caseal.

Ugh... I had a whole post written out about how I hate it when people care so much about elitism and doing tons of damage. But then I had a connection error. >_>

But I play this game for fun. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif Why would I play this game if I played it like a chore? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

PA's, weapons, etc are just tools to get more out of the fun. They have never been the main reason I pick a class or to show off. When many are using/hunting S ranks, I still prefer grinded B ranks. ;]

Some people take this game too seriously. That, in turn, takes away the fun it should give. I play for fun, to relax, to keep myself busy, but I play moderately. I stop when I feel pressured or repetitive. That's my source of motivation for coming back to play everyday.

Well I myself log on, read and excited to have a fun ga...oh wait. None of the people that like playing with me are on at the moment. Oh well! I can still have fun with a great pickup group! I feel like doing some Desert Goliath so let's go there!...oh wait. Nobody is here. Doesn't matter! I'll find plenty of cool people hanging around the current hotspot! Let's...oh god damnit! All the "cool" people are locked away with their real friends! Oh well! I'll just wait for my friends to get on...*Goes to sleep to repeat day after day*

It's too hard to have "fun" in this game on a regular basis. So many variables out of my control. Sucks...

I wholeheartedly agree. Sometimes I go off on hunting spree's, and tend to find that it makes me grow tired of psu. After this, I'll party with friends and the game feels revived.

I feel bad for those who crunch numbers the whole time they play, cause pointless arguments over class/weapons/pa's, or simply think they're the shit on the internet. Sure it's good every once in a while and to store knowledge and new info, but doing it constantly is such a waste of time, life, and gameplay.

Log on, do what you want, have fun. Seriously folks, lighten up.

@Siertes: That's why me and my friends usually just say, "We're PSUing" and we all log on. Cause frankly, I can't stand to play in pick-up parties.

I play for fun, and points. Every time I read on this forums someone putting down a skill, weapon, or chara combo I use, I get a point.

It's almost as fun as playing the game!

I play for the fun of the game personally. Don't really care much for having the best equipment, blah blah. Heck I do not even know about most of the equipment that exists lol. The only "serious" thing I do is collect items, and now and then try to find the price of something I find so I can stick it in my store. Which albeit does not have much, but which I have going because I like opening up shops and selling my stuff. Occasionally chatting with the person who comes through the door xD That, and I also like to collect and play with new things I hadn't seen before. Or things that look plain fun (I do hope to get a puyo aura some day as those things look like fun xD)

Hopefully now that I FINALLY fixed PSU on my laptop (thanks for the lack of help Toshiba Tech support >.<) I will get to play more and really get into making things, and finding new toys to play with hehe.

Like I told Dragwind earlier when we were playing:
Great players are more rare than the items people are hunting for.

Im constantly on the prowl for a good party to do various missions. Lately Ive been keeping in touch with a few people who play to play and hunt the occasional rare that comes our way.

I usually play for fun. I'm rarely sent mail by people who's Card I have, And I've got two pages of people's Cards.

I'm pretty sure that I've not done or said anything deserving of being ignored;
so it's really odd that outside of Nia or Senpai, pretty much no else who I gave my Card to and whom should still have my Card; well they've rarely to virtually never invite me to join their group.

Maybe it's the isolationist & clique-ish character of "friend groups" on PSU...
It's really strange. *shrugs*

But today I took my gunner/techer character who has NO melee skills at all and decided to get 3 levels of HU in preparation of acrotecher. Ryna helped out along with a friend of his; we did Cost of research S. And for some reason it felt completely refreshing to not rely on PAs or worry about how much damage I was doing. I may have to clean out my cards list, hehe. Only cards I have for the most part are cards from the times I'd subscribed and played months earlier, subscription times having a gap of usually 2-4 months at a time. This latest gap because I simply could not get my laptop to play PSU without hanging on me every ~15 min (Toshiba knows nothing about drivers apparantly). Which I finally manged to fix yesterday thanks to laptopvideo2go. xD

Hmm, I don't think I care about specifics that much in PSU. I cared more in PSO where theres more variety in equipment and individual strength. In PSU I'm just a beast who can transform and do a crap load of damage, and I'm fine with that for now I guess. I use all the PAs but I may switch to more technically better PAs if I'm doing a hard mission but if I'm just doing de ragan or something I could care less.

Fleur-de-Lis

I do, my Partner Card and Gamer Zone both say so.

Also, I'm pretty sure that anyone who has partied with me and remembers me knows that I don't care about A] Rares, B] Rank, or C] the fact that you may use a character name from DBZ or FF7. Pretty much the only thing that I don't find fun about PSU is the fact that PSO has staged an infiltration into the expansion.

So yeah, we do exist.

Well, I can understand why some people are elitists - competition. Even though I was a fan of PSO and I have fun playing PSU as well, I tend to gear myself towards the better PA's and equipment when I understand the differences between them, because I want to make myself BETTER at the game. I think many people fail to realize that some people play games, in general, to have fun, while others play them because it's their CAREER (think along the lines of college/professional sports, for example), and they feel the need to be competitive, to elevate their skills to the highest levels possible. I wish I COULD play video games as a job; I'd do it for the rest of my life. =/

I think you're overreacting from that SC thread. You (or anyone else) ask a question and it gets answered. If you want to use Splendor Crush, Bogga Danga or whatever then do so, even knowing the facts of how it they stand up against other PAs. In the end it's your choice.

Also people have different ideas of fun, some people like the "time attack" mentality as it lets them break the game down apart. Some rather sit in the lobby for 2000+ hours just enjoying the atomsphere of the game. Different strokes for different folks.

I enjoy playing with my friends and having fun and I also like playing in PuGs as I find it fun adapting my playstyle to others, mainly meeting new people (don't believe in isolating myself from the community locked games 99% of the time I'm logged on).

That is a blatant exaggeration, you know damn well it's only 98%.

But regarding your point, does this in effect state that these "different strokes" are in fact two camps, the (vastly) larger of which seems to define "fun" as "playing with myself"?

I'm half and half, I only care about being overpowering everything, seeing the highest damage numbers, and will only go outside that rule if there are unique stuff for playing something weaker(which PSU has none!) That is "my" way of having fun, a little different from some here I guess. I'm usually silent in most parties.

The other half, which Jife and few others helped bring to life http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif, is chatting about games, making jokes, laying back and listening to stories. I'm a bit calmer than what i described above. That was like my first 4 months, then a learned to open up a little and show a happier side. I'm the kind that plays for fun. I don't worry about stats unless there's a big enough difference that the stats really do matter than the looks. (But that's why I grinded some kubara B-rank handguns.) But even when a mission is hard enough to warrant performance optimization, I'll never resort to using weapons or PAs that I hate. If my favorite things are overpowered, then so be it, I will overpower everything. If not, then Raine overpowers everything to pick up my slack-for-the-sake-of-style. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I play for fun. After the first few months, PSU itself stopped providing that, but Raine makes me happy so I stay. She makes PSU feel much less like a chore, even when she's serious. And I make her happy too. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Ahem. Anyway, I'd like to say I play PSU for fun. I don't play to get the best equipment per se but I do have an obsession with trying to collect every last machinegun in the game.

I really like machineguns.

Being a CAST Fortegunner/Guntecher who insists on using daggers + machineguns probably says a lot about how much I (don't) care with respect to being the absolute best Guardian in Gurhal.

If it doesn't, then I should mention my Human WT (future AT) and how he'll never touch Cards, ever. Madoogs and clubby weapons for him!

I guess that explains Novvy.

I am a real casual pick up and play gamer myself. Most of my stuff is A ranks out of the fact they dont make Claws in any lower. I don't really care about anything stat wise, besides elemental effectiveness either.

When you start playing PSU by other peoples Rules and Standards, all the fun goes out the window.

PSU isn't fun. It's just addictive. I never log on and think "this is going to be great!"

It is a lot like a job actually. You do it because you feel like it needs to be done. Not because you actually want to. Do I feel like lving up rabarta? No. But it needs to be done. It's almost like something I put on my to do list.

PSO was fun. I loged on thinking I would have a good time. And I usually did.

Eh who cares? People play the game how they wanna play it. Let them play it that way as thats how they enjoy the game. Most of the time, in almost any game, most people will care about how much damage they do. If not, I guess we should just have shitty weapons and let the mobs beat the shit out us. Elitism lol? Haha, no one is what I call a "elite" in this game. If this was a mmo though, then I would use this word. Equipment? Haha, that doesn't make you elite.

Me? Hell, I play for all the fun and chatterboxing, but I do care about the damage I do and what pa/technics I use. You don't hear me in game saying : "Omgz, look at that damage!!! I'm sooo badazz and you guys all suck" or "You shouldn't use that PA on that mob. I'm going to boot you if you continue to do it." No, I don't do that. I am your typical, nice normal player that will complete missions fast if the leader wants it so (and apparently, most want it done fast anyways). Second off, as far as chatting goes, I don't do it 100% of the time just because I'm using a controller and everytime I have to say something, I have to get rid of the controller. If I want to chat, I'll stick to staying in the lobby. Or would you rather have me sit there in the mission talking while doing nothing?

Point I'm making to OP is that people enjoy the game in different ways. There is no "absolute" one way to enjoy a game as people have their own ways of enjoying it. What is so wrong with that? And the people making these so called "elitist" posts you people call it you don't party with in game much anyways so why are you complaining lol? But I will say, your average person will want the mission done fast just because they either want PA frags, MP, fast exp, or they are hunting for a rare (boss box or normal). And if thats the case, I can both chatterbox and kill fast at the same time for them.

Personally, I just play PSU to have fun and hang out with my friends that are on. I mean don't get me wrong doing crazy damage and having crazy rares would be nice...but really it's not something I NEEEED to have in order to have fun. If you're not having fun then there is really no point to even logging on, it'd be a waste of time to just sit there for hours doing something that you don't like.

Ventrillo, It's a Voice chat program, that can be run in the backround of other programs. Hence it's popularity with gamers.

It would be great if everything didn't take so long. Techs take forever to level, S rank are impossible to find, synthing high % melee weapons takes alot of cash and detication.

Once you get them, it's fun. As you get to enjoy the game play in a new way, with new weapons, skills ect. it's just a drag that to get any of it takes forever. And with PSU I've gotten accustomed to camping outside of missions to do them over and over for exp or meseta, or solo a mission to look for an S rank. Which I do occasionally, but once my friends sign on it's all about fun.

And I haven't rally seen elitism in game. It mostly seems to be contained in the forums. It's not that people are elite, they simply have ideas on how the mechanics of the game work from their experienes. in game though, i almost never see people with uber equipment, the correct race combination, or even the a set of PA's for one particular class.

I'd love to be a jackass elite player with gear and PA selection to make people cry but I keep losing focus and having an incredibly good time joking around with online friends. Dammit!

That's how I typically feel with MMO's in general, unless I'm planning to do quests (or story mode missions here in PSU).

What does make me think "This is going to be great!" when I log into an MMO is if I'm going to be playing with friends and aquiantances.

Though I don't drink, I guess it's the same kinda thing as getting drunk at a party with friends, as compared to getting drunk alone at home.

I play, and have LOTS of fun! That's what a video game is supposed to be about...getting away from your job, getting the things like stress, the misery and drama of the world, and things like that off your chest.

In the TC's response to spamming Resta, I don't know what players you've played with that thinks spamming Resta is noobish. Sounds like you've played with some ingenious dumbasses, lol. If I ever come across players like that, and since I'm a male Newman FT...they would not get healed at all. Better yet, if it's my own party, I'd spam..."John/Jane Doe has been removed from the party." Just for that dumb "noobish" comment about Resta. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

had a super fun time last time I played. Funny as hell convos. My Hawaiian friends are always in good spirits. Maybe it's cuz it's only 9pm for them when its 3 am for me? If it wasn't for good friends this game would hold almost no interest 4 me.

Were you guys drunk when you recorded that? Because it distinctly came across as if you were all playing a drinking game; "Every time you drop dead, take a shot."

Fresh ass vid. At least you guys weren't one shotted out at DG S2,no one brought scapes. We laughed about that for a good minute or two.

And Gattaca,I have played a drinking game while playing PSU. The results were varied but in the end harmless and left me with some good memories.
(Don't drink kids,go to school,etc etc)

I've gone out of my way to bring people I know irl to PSU. (I'd say about 10 people so far,2 of which still play every chance they get, more coming to join in AoI.)

I'm not the best player, not the most versed in stats, but dammit I have fun in this game everyday. I've met some fresh ass people on here, even some folks from here on good ol' PSOW. I play for fun usually,it's prolly why I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to hard info on the game.

I love this game,it's one of the reasons I still play is because I do have fun. The people on here are a major bonus though.
(soi soi soi soi stststststststsoi)

And besides...this is one of the only games I can play a souless machine who's only purpose is to inflict harm for a good purpose. Or play a oversized hume that claims to be a space pirate.

You get the point.

You know - there's some serious fun to be had watching all the PRO PLAYERS down at seabed challenging and trash talking eachother (360 version). For maximum fun just sit idly by and toss the odd grenade into their discussion. With just a couple of words you can keep the fire burning for quite a long time, and they'll be too wrapped up fighting eachother to notice.

This probably makes me a bad person.

Elitist much? Anyway..>.>

I do play the game to have fun though. Don't get me wrong, it's NICE to have awesome equipment and whatnot, but I can still have fun at level 1, just as I could at level 80 or so.

I don't want this to become a job or something. I play the game to have FUN. I don't care about having the best time for anything, the best equipment, maxing out every type, PA, etc.

I would take a moment of fun with my friends over a S rank ANYTHING any day. I believe this kind of thing is more rare than the drop rate I always hear people complaining about.

Maybe I'm just weird http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Actually. the only thing that has kept me playing under this month is my friends and the hunt for Me/Quick.
Good conversation while battling foes is what keept this game alive IMO.
And now, they are doing something else and i still havenīt got my Me/Quick after a long-ass search.

My license expired now so i probably wonīt update it for a while now or i just wait until the expansion comes.
Just got a hold on Metroid Prime 3 so it will be a nice break.

Naw not drunk just having mad fun (not a bad idea though...). That's pretty much the norm chat for boss battles, because we typically do get owned, but we're having fun the whole time. I actually didn't know the Vent chat was recorded too, made it a lot funnier to hear back haha. To answer the topic question, yeah, I do play for fun. Ooooohhhhh!!!!

Oh, I wasn't making fun of your getting pummelled by Mr. OMGz (I have no room to talk; just ask Balthasar what happened a few nights ago in Desert Goliath S2), just the reactions you guys had over Vent (and the afro dude's cut-in). It just sounded in my head like "Ohhhhh, take a shot!"

It led to mental images of your party fighting Omagoug while lugging bottles of brandy/vodka/lager/etc. and taking a swig each time he knocked one of you flat!
