I had a kitten for a few weeks last year. It came up on our doorstep Thanksgiving weekend (while I was sick). My dog was barking at something, then I saw a little grey blur out of the window. Long story short, we found out it was a little ferral kitten but we got it in time for it to be domesticated fine. (and comfortable around dogs too!) While it was nice to have around, we didn't want a cat but found a couple that love cats and they've kept it (and it's apparently their largest cat now).
