So far, the only swords capable of being hunted are either dropped from a sub-boss (~50% synth rate), a rare sub boss, or a boss. This means, by definition, that they're all really hard to get.
Beyond the rarity is their looks. The generic 10* is a parallelepiped with a cheap looking handle, more plain looking than the A rank sword. The kubara variant is comically large. The 11* is male only, meaning I can't use it even if I find it.

All this means that, even if I somehow find a rare sword, I won't be satisfied with its looks. It seems like I'll be using an A rank sword until I happen across a Dragon Slayer.

Kan Yu DOES look amazing, hurray for a majority of male characters http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif Plus, I don't like the look of Huge Cutter

And am I the only one who doesn't like the look of the A-Rank GRM Swords? They're just very plain. I can't wait till my Fighgunner can use the Tenora A-Rank Swords in AoI, those are awesome.

One of the kubara ones (Saudoc?) actually looks pretty good, if you're seriously into style over substance.

Saudoc does look cool, but its stats are so inferior it's almost not worth using. One could argue I could grind it, but considering both how hard it is to synth and its low grind rate, I'd still be better off with the 9*. I did actually try getting one, and it was a rather painful experience.

By the way, what is the drop rate for svaltus swords? Considering its stats and looks, it may be my only choice in S rank swords (you know, after I solo a fuka and daiga... *sob*). Should I even bother looking for one?

Your right, I still hold to the opinion that the 10* sword looks like it should have been the shape of GRM A ranks, because the current A ranks don't look anything like something from GRM >_>

I agree that it sux that teh S rank swords come from enemies that don't pop out the same way most other S rank dropping monsters do. I wish S rank swords can at least be easier to hunt.

I would have to agree, simplicity is elegance.

The Kan Yu looks better still, though...

I like all the swords so far except Yohmei. Large, plain industrial-strength looking cutting devices. Perfect for plain-looking attack PA's. You're not throwing swords, doing hadokens, practicing kung-fu or anything.

My complaint if any is that Huge Cutter is too small. If the name says Huge I want Huge.

My most powerful swords right now are a set of Gigush+10's ... they stand out against everyone else's A-ranks and the occasional HC.

Levia. You have created an interesting topic :3

You know..since I'm all ABOUT Swords http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Before moving on though...

Now before everyone gets all ecstatic and wants to go out and buy MULTIPLE Gigush Swords, then try to grind them to +10, then put on the line shield so they can have "UBER POWAAAA!!!", let it be known..this is a bit of a myth people have created.

I don't want to sound arrogant when I say this, but there's really no other way TO sound when addressing this matter. I've used the Gigush set and honestly..it's not as great as people make it sound. I've been using Swords with my main since day one.

I know what I'm talking about when it comes to this sort of thing http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif. The damage falls about 100 short of my Caliburns and also..who needs a +10 Gigush when you can have a +10 Caliburn or Svaltus even? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

The PP isn't enough to match any of the higher ranked Swords, since it is such a low rank weapon. So, even if you COULD (you can't, but I'm just giving an example) do more damage with Gravity Break using a Gigush +10, I would still do more damage with my Caliburns and Svaltus, because I would have more PP, anyway.

Another thing people don't want to tell you about this wonderful set is..it conflicts with a HPC. Apparently, if you have a Hard / Power Charge equipped, you can't get the full "potential" out of the Gigush set. I don't know if it works like that for other Arm power units, but..if you want some real damage, go buy yourself a real Sword, is what I say.

Don't waste your time fooling around with myths, restricting yourself to wearing a Gigush line, trying to do massive damage, when it's not even worth it to begin with. The Gigush set is good for lower leveled players, but if you're at a point where you can get something much better than a Gigush and the Gigush line shield, you need to move on http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway, enough of the rant (this IS the rant section, so it should be okay, lol). Back to what I was wanting to talk with Levia about.

Well, I know what you mean..I REALLY wish it was easier to find S ranks Swords or ANY kind of Sword, really. They don't seem to drop very often at all..well..not like the rest of the weapons anyway.

There are a few Swords in AOI that look interesting, but..their stats don't compare to what we have right now, which is kind of sad. I remember seeing a new Sword which had like..229 PP or something of the sort and I just cringed.

Now I AM looking forward to getting the Chainsawd from the casino, but I think even that has stats weaker than my Caliburn as well. I don't remember off-hand, but..I WILL be getting one regardless, since I can't pass up the opportunity to use a Chain Sword (you can thank .hack//G.U. for that, lol).

The Agito Repca? Nah..I don't really like that one either. The stats are terrible for being an S rank weapon. "Well, you can grind it and make it better. It's Kubara". Well..Svaltus is Kubara as well, but it has some nice base stats where I'm fine WITHOUT having to grind it.

As far as BASE stats are concerned..there are low B rank Swords which are stronger than the Agito Repca. That's just pathetic. Now some of the new Swords do have some nice attack power, but their PP is just terrible. If we're talking about a Sword which has some nice stats all around, I'd say the De Ragan Slayer would be my next step.

The ATT on it is an even 900 and the ACC is 330, now the PP is 374, HOWEVER..that's still better than my Caliburns, except for my +10, and I don't expect hardly ANY Sword to beat my Svaltus in terms of PP, unless the Sword is grinded ridiculously.

I mean, come on..the Svaltus Sword has 550 PP starting out...that's not even GRINDED. So, overall..I believe the De Ragan Slayer would be a nice Sword to have if you want nice all around stats.

Now if only Sonic Team would stop being sexist and let the female characters equip a Kan Yu or if anything, give the females a Sword exclusive to them.

And I don't mean some fruity pink looking Sword which shoots flowers out either >.>

I'd like to put it out there that a 44%/50% Gigush+10 will do just as much as a Caliburn of average percentage, and cost a fraction of recharge cost of a Caliburn.

This coming from personal experience (with a 44% Dark Gigush Line, I didn't have much choice. >_>).

Also, the entire point of the Agito Repca is to grind it. >_> It is Kubara, afterall.

Dragwind
Nov 5, 2007, 11:36 PM
I'd have to agree on the Gigush combo...it's just more hassle than its worth. Might as well grind Caliburns in AoI.

Zorafim
Nov 6, 2007, 02:36 PM
Agito gains hundreds of attack points per grind. Though it needs +5 to compete with the dragon slayer (the only sword so far I like aethetically with the exception of the Yohmei swords), after that grind I doubt there will be much of a comparison.

The problem, of course, is actually getting it that high.

TetsuyaHikari
Nov 6, 2007, 02:42 PM
Yeah, it's always a problem to grind any weapon to get some sort of nice performance out of them. I'm sure some will call me an idiot for this, but the way I look at it is..why should I bother grinding a weapon to *insert number here* when I can buy a weapon that hasn't even been grinded and get good results anyway?

If I have to grind a weapon (really HIGH, no less) before it can even compare to the BASE stats of my current weapon, I don't want it, cause that sounds pretty sad..

When I tested the set bonus and it was decent, I went and made the full set of swords for it because it was really cheap to do. I've been working on upgrading ever since (and had been before as well) without anything really superior to show for it... though the last while I've been waiting for AOI synth changes to invest serious money upgrading. Higher success rates, element results, and not blowing up gear on the grind desk will make it a breeze... which is good news since I'm upgrading to the Gudda Gant/Rabol Gant set.

My 20% ice Gigush+10 (shop sells 'em like that) does average damage about equal to my 20% ice Caliburn+10 BTW, with set bonus and Mega/Power. Caliburn can outdamage it by about 50 at best on a normal swing, but the low results are worse by an equal amount.
