There's been alot of talk about the xbox version and whether it will be better and what not. I'm kinda mad cuz' sega hasn't released much about it, and I want to know if the GCN people will be able to play with the Xbox people(although I doubt it because xbox is on the beast game network). But I'm still thinking about getting it because sega should be able to update the game for things like FSOD's and you can save the update to your hdd. What do you guys think?

beast servers? thats the name? hm...

well...
so far its rumored the game's mastercopy is already in ... microsoft hq. but they want to wait until it starts in japan. and this will wait until x-box-live leaves the beta-phase in japan...

this would mean:
the game's ready programmed: no updates, no improvements (knowing sega and their porting-policy) - its just the same as the cube-version only running on x-box.
i wouldn't bet sega would do anything on top of that what they to for the cube-version - questlike i mean. as far as patches and server-maintenance go, thats microsofts part - so every fsod will be their fault, not sega's (but since ms has gotten a pretty good name for servermainenance, we'll see).

personally i'm really curious what microsoft's making out of the potential pso has - and no, server wont be connected.
maybe between the rumoured ps2-version and the cube-version but thats a totally different story...

edit:
well, yes 'just the same as the cube version' plus that loved/hated voice-chat-feature.

you know it may be that ms is just taking time to make it bulletproof. if they do indeed have the master disc, they may have had time to find errors and program holes that can be exploited. if its running on ms servers then they will be sure to make it as cheat proof as possible. if its a port of the japanese version 1 disc then it surely has flaws to be fixed. lets just hope the extra time spent was play testing with the most ruthless cheaters and uptight perfectionists.

as far as playing with gcn players, i think not.

I'm pretty sure they won't be connected. the Box and the Cube verions run on different companies' servers, Sonic Team for Cube and Microsoft for Box.

yes, lets hope the best for it but i honestly doubt MS will back-engineer xbl-pso ^_^;

Where the hell did you guys ever get this silly idea that Microsoft makes secure products. I mean... seriously.

Ignorance.

If the X-Box and GC servers were connected (which they won't be), then any attempts to make the X-Box version free of bugs would be all for naught, since any bug affecting the GC version (such as duping) would also affect the X-Box users and vice-versa.

Probably because, while Microsoft's software is less-than-perfect, their game servers are top-notch, and cheaters are instantly banned on Microsoft's servers.

One thing I hope for is client side patches to truly stop cheating...

Microsoft is Quality over Quanity...

Y'know, all the talk about server-side or client-side patches to prevent cheats...

I dunno. Maybe I'm just spouting here, which is entirely possible. But it seems to me that some of that would need to be done by Sonic Team anyway. Y'know...'cause Microsoft doesn't exactly have the raw source code to the game, do they? I'd assume ST wants to keep that pretty much to themselves...so anything Microsoft would try to do would be...

...really, I'm just babbling.

MS is not known for security or reliability. I am sure that people were hyping increased security when the idea of PSO for the GCN came out. It is all wishful thinking. As long as saves are client side, anything can (and eventually will) happen.

Actually, in all likelihood, Microsoft's servers will be more secure. Sonic Team hasn't exactly been known for great security at all ever, and there is no doubt, in my mind at least, that Microsoft will do a better job of keeping the servers secure. Plus, Microsoft seems to be more strict when it comes to cheating than Sonic Team is.

Plus, the reason people originally believed that the GC PSO would be more secure was because they did not think a cheat device would be released for it for quite some time. Yeah, they were kind of wrong. However, the XBox currently has no cheat device for it, and there are no plans to make one for it as of this time. However, this doesn't mean all cheating is out of the window. But, what it does mean, is that cheating is limited to those who can actually intercept the packets sent to their XBox and/or those that can access files on their XBox Hard-drive from a PC, and modify those files. Now, we all know that the people with those capabilities are few and far between. Lastly, some of those with those capabilities probably would not even bother to try to cheat on PSO, nor even get PSO, making the cheat pool of people even smaller, adding for an overall more secure aura for XBox PSO.

What it's probably going to come down to for me is the price, if it's comparable or even cheaper per month I'll get it. I know some people don't like voice chat, but you can of course disguise your voice, and even a disguised voice is a lot easier to use in the heat of a battle than a keyboard (of course, it would help if there was a U.S. keyboard). It's really hard to type during some of these games where you have to keep moving and it would be a great benefit to communicate without it. Not that I hate typing, I just find it hard to say, run away from Vol Opt's smashers and put together a legible sentence at the same time.

you have 8+12 short cut spaces - use them wisely ^_^

and its easy to see through a system when every xbox sends specific data to the servers.

but next generation of modchips will come for sure, then the whole ridiculus game (serveradmins against cheaters) starts again.

next generation of modchips?

the game is already over as far as mods and live are concerned...

on the other hand, offline hacking is a whole different ballgame....
