Well, since the old thread pooped out for reasons unknown, I'll remake.

Drift City is a racing game. You choose a starting vehicle, earn money through missions, deliveries, HUV chases (car chases), and PvP races. All missions, chases, and delivery services are done in the cities while races are done on tracks "cut" out of the city. This means you have traffic, though it's adjustable in PvP races.

You have a fairly wide selection of vehicles by level 5, which is gained in about a half-hour's play time. As you level, more vehicles and parts become available. You can upgrade the vehicles with various parts that increase their stats along with with visible ride-pimpin'-esque features like spoilers, new wheels, and body kits.

You also have a boost meter, along with ramps in some tracks. The boost is fairly simple, it will go up on it's own, but you can make it go faster by driving in the wrong lane, side-swiping cars, going off ramps, and passing checkpoints (PvP races only). Oh yea, if you haven't seen it already, the worst part of the game is any amount of lag.

Cars are warping around the map as you try to stay on a line, straight or otherwise. Both NPC cars and players are subject to the lag and both are susceptible to appearing right in front of you when they were not there before. They come out of nowhere and lag speed right into you for a crash, or speed way ahead on the map (even if it looked like you were going to hit them head on- apply directly to the 4head) and you don't know who's placing anywhere until someone finishes.

And then the inevitable everyone points the finger at everyone as "haxors" or "laggers" and there isn't any meter of ping showing lag anywhere so its really baseless. Then the ol' guy in first place of the race gets the rights to change the track/traffic frequency/and the right to kick people out.

Well, here's what I get most of the time. It's stuff that could easily be fixed:

-Traffic car runs into me before the beginning of a race (WHAT. THE. FUCK.)
-Bunch of traffic mysteriously explodes in a huge pileup as an invisible guy runs through them.
-I have a 50% chance of crashing to a dead stop if I attempt to get on top of a jump ramp truck.
-Traffic cars appear and disappear for no visible reason.

My main beef is traffic and gates though. It makes pretty much every race rely on luck. One time, I can completely humiliate a guy twice as leveled as I am because I get all boosts and he gets nothing. The next round, the situations completely turns around.

Or, it once happened that a huge van truck crashed on absolutely nothing, while crossing a narrow street. Result: everyone in the race except the leader is caught in a roadblock and can't move forward.



Still, I gotta say, it pretty much does the same job as Test Drive Unlimited, except you don't get cheated out of 40 bucks.

Yeah avoid the dreaded ramp truck unless you're feeling lucky (punk) and think you're lined up perfectly. Fine tune steering counter steering while you're inches onto the ramp, no dice. Hit detection straight-> to the max! But they're okay in 1player cruising mode. (and then you have to rack up thousands of jumps to get a coupon for one car http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif)

Traffic in your face as you start the race, bad. BAD BAD. Seen it both sides too, behind the starting line and starting in front of your car. Car behind you pushing you forward makes you jump straight up and not push you forward as in game physics would probably state should happen.

I will note that on some of those races the lag was so bad, peopel starting before you and all. . . And the problem is non-American IPs connected. The IJJI servers are bad enough as it is, and it doesn't help when they allow extra IPs in.

I never go from last to 1st when I start way behind due to K-lagz.

I get maybe SUPER-BOOOST and Drift City in that situation less than half the time.

Sometimes consecutively they come on back to back gates, overlapping eachother - which is fun, but that 50% boost when I'm 30 car lengths behind, no fun.

I knew it was when I was spending too much time just racking up 700 drifts again and again in one hanger area, some people nearby on the ramp were talking about this might be a good are to bot.

Moments later I get an onscreen prompt asking me what 2 + 2 was to circumvent botting. Also broke my drift combo, but what the hell, don't need 700 in a row, just 700 for friggin' 100 EXP. 9000 tnl through only low exp races/super low exp deliveries/okay exp patrol missions.

And the last station guy was a backpack kid with eyeliner looking straight out of Ronin's Deathnote thingy named like Jae-Soon or something.

Ran the patrol 3 times in a row for lv 43 parts and didn't get anything useful really. Surprising lack of one kind of part too which I needed to bump up the stats for since I was using inferior parts.

Gave up on it after that.

Dunno how anyone stuck it out to get those Mustangs and Opel Tigre looking car whom I raced against in battle arena.

To attain certain coupons, most definitely! I don't have a bot myself but it seems logical when you can't really go off ten thousand plus ramps in a reasonable amount of time. Racing others and chasing HUVs is really fun, getting some of the cars isn't.
