View Full Version : Thinking of moving from 360 to PC/PS2

I'm going to be moving away to university next week, I'll be taking my 360 but we're not allowed to have games consoles connected online to the network (for some reason) So I've been thinking of buying the PC version of PSU so I could run it on my laptop, good or bad idea?

I'm level 83 on 360 and really don't want to start again, but I really don't want to not play the game either. Is the community over on PC servers any good? Hard to get a party at all? (How many stars do the serves have at peak times roughly?) Would I be better off importing the japanese version or sticking with the US version?

Anyways I'm sure I can convince a few of my friends who are moving away to universitys to also buy the PC version. I just hope it doesn't die, or everyone move to 360 and leave the servers empty.

I just got a 360, and from what i've heard, from a major majority of the people on these boards (even ps2/pc players) 360, is the best version, and the way to go, when it comes to online play. PC is only good for taking screen shots, of your online PS2 characters.

You'll get a big chance soon if we ever get the Thanks Fiesta up and running since those missions come with very wonderful exp. Enough to even be able to get level 100 characters in a couple of days.

Level 1-30 would be doing HSM for capping a certain class, then moving onto Hot Springs until level 50-60. Play Demons Above S rank or Foran's Duel in the Ruins S2 to get to 80. The rest would be up to you but I would prefer Denes, Sleeping Warriors, Foranz waterfall, and Fakis S2 missions for you to cap out your level.

Our community is pretty fair even when it feels low on members but we've seen some drastic advancement on the amount of players returning. Hopefully due to AoI's soon release.

Our stars during peak hours started to have 3.5* at max from what I've seen. Still enough to be able to find a party at hotspots.

I think the idea of switching is pretty ok and there wouldn't be any regrets towards it. If you meet players on your first go, just make sure to try to keep them on your friends list to start off easy http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

I know the 360 versions better, I've been playing it since release, but I don't much like the thought of only being able to play at christmas, easter and summer when I am home from uni. Just wondering if it would be worth it to get the PC version until next summer, or are the PC servers really that bad...?

Zael

I tried playing 360 version. I absolutely cannot stand the majority of the community there. Probably because I'm used to not-spammy lobbies, civil competition, and not worrying about scammers

I have no idea how the pc servers are... i've only heard that they are hacked, and filled with items, and meseta of ill repute. And, when gameguard gets updated, it tends to screw up the game, and make it hard to get online.

Zantra
Sep 13, 2007, 04:07 AM
Note, that all the things I am saying, are not from my own experience, but from what I have read on these boards. I have yet to play any of the versions of these games online. I have a copy of the PS2 version, but I wanted to wait until I got a PS3, to try it online (I have an older PS2, with no modem/broadband built in), I want the PC version, to take pics of my PS2 characters online, if that's the community, that I decide to join. And, I just got an Xbox 360 Elite, a few days ago, and I want to get a copy of PSU (only $20 @ Game Crazy), because I've heard, that the Xbox version, is less hacked, and has a larger community.

I'm definately considering it, I know of 2 other people I can bring to the servers as well so we could play together. Thanks for the mini-guide Dj, I was planning a HSM, DitR sort of path, haven't played the lower levels since waaay back.

lol, the PC/PS2 servers were hacked ages ago. everything's alright now, except player shop prices are higher. but you can sell for more so it makes up for it.

I'll admit there's less people but from my experiences, the randoms on PC/PS2 generally don't annoy me nearly as much as the ones on 360.

Why not try it out first. As far as I know the Xbox and Playstation should be able to use the same network protocols as a PC.

I dont really know much about consoels and their network ability but even it was different, Im sure you could mask it behind a router and port forwarding

Zantra
Sep 13, 2007, 04:23 AM
Or... hide your system.

They can't just search your room, and even if they do, just unplug your Xbox 360 from the network, when you're not using it. It's not illegal to have the Xbox 360, they just can't catch you using it on the network, if they don't catch you, they'll never know.

I have to sign a network usage agreement when moving in, I can use the broadband for anything I want on my laptop but it states no games consoles are to be connected to the network for safety reasons (I'm sure they're thinking someone's PS2 will contract a virus and screw over the whole network or something) I might still try the 360 but I'd rather not get kicked out of uni for something so stupid.

Anyways, positive responses so far, I might just go buy it and start levelling before I leave, on my PC. Accounts are interchangeable between systems for PC/PS2 right? So I can play on any laptop/PC/PS2 as long as I have my account details?

Dj_SkyEpic
Sep 13, 2007, 04:34 AM
Correct, and good luck with this movement. By the end of your session in schools you're probably going to start deciding which account to keep ahold of. That right there will mainly be decided upon the people you have as friends within.

Yeah, I have noticed a lot of people around here are PS2/PC players, that could help, I know a lot of you are very helpful and such. Anyways this is just preliminary question asking, I'm probably going to get the game in a day or two and start trying to catch up to where I was on 360 (which should take a few months, especially as I am meant to work, being in uni and all)

I'm eventually going to play all 3 versions (2 technically), but I think i'm going to start on 360. And, if I don't like 360, I may move over to PS2, when I get my PS3 (read why, above), and buy the PC version specifically for screenshots, of my characters. My PC has a much better graphics card, then my PS2 anyway (not sure if that really matters). Does anyone know yet, if the PS3 80gb versions software emulation backwards compatability makes PSU look and run better, with it's graphical upscaling (all the way to 1080p, supposedly), and it's anti-aliasing?

Ouch, triple post.

Yeah I've always wanted to take screen caps of my characters, and I'll be getting FRAPs for other things so I might bother making some movies or whatever.

The only thing I can think of now is do I recreate my human character (loved the fact I could do any class, and I quite enjoyed the hybrid classes) or make a slightly less cool (IMO) cast (I was promarily ForteGunner/GunTecher so this would be my second choice)... Hmmm....

Zantra
Sep 13, 2007, 05:15 AM
I've always liked Newmans best, at least back in the PSO days.

I kinda like Newmans (I was a HUnewearl and a FOnewearl on PSO) but I don't really want to be limited to just techer. I prefer the gunning/hitting side of things (<3 crossbows, my 360 crossbow skills are almost all capped) so maybe I should go cast, but then I prefer the looks and general use-ability of humans. Tough choice...

Zantra
Sep 13, 2007, 05:23 AM
So... Newmans can only be techers??? I can't remake my HUnewearl character from PSO? What the hell... That sucks... Oh well... back to the drawing board...

Each race can do well in any type which is why you can easily change classes. So you're still able to do what you wanted. Some races are just better at one thing than others. Just got to find a fair balance when making a certain character.

I've seen a lot of Newman female fighter types, some crazy enough to wield axes (looks at Rain >..>) and do pretty fair damage.

And this is why people think PC/PS2 is bad. People who've never played on it really shouldn't be giving advice on which server to play. Yes, PC/PS2 was hacked, and yes, Meseta is in a lot more abundance than on X360, but recently there's been no/minimal hacking, and the game has returned to s state of normality. There are still inflated prices, but they are dropping slowly, as people run out of h4xeta.

Gameguard's only given me problems once. All that was needed was to recreate the GG folder. I wouldn't really say it screws up the game much.

We have around 3- 3 1/2 stars on Universe 2 (the main universe) at peak times- much less than X360, but we don't have the inclusion of Japanese players like X360 does. 3 1/2 stars is still enough to find a game in the hotspots, although leveling where you want to can be a bit difficult sometimes.

I'm not going to promote/slate the X360 servers, as I've not played on them, but I do know that PC/PS2 is still alive and kicking, for the time being.

Good to hear from people actually on the servers say it's good, and it appears the only people who really say anything bad about them are often the 360 crowd.

Anyways soudns good, I'll check out if it all works at the uni and probably create another human (or a cast.... hmmmm......grr) and be off

You can get around a University's rule on this by connecting your Xbox 360 to your PC, and running them through to a shared connection. It's what I do.

0_o Really...

That's how I used to have it set up before I got a wireless connection. Surely they'd be able to detect it on their server? Even if running shared with a PC...?

This gives me some hope, but still, I might consider the switch just to try both sides.

If you could somehow get account set up to play on the JP version then that would be the better move overall, if not then US PC is the only choice you have by default if all you want to do is just get the PSU feeling out of your system which seems like you really need to do from your opening post.

Hope you wasn't spoiled by the Labs spam runs that the 360ers do since that doesn't happen over on the US PC/PS2 side nearly as much if at all compared the older days.

I played on the PS2 scince release, and from my experience, if you arn't at the "hot spots" then the game is fairly lonely. Granted, I haven't played in a month or so, so it could be different.

I'm actually moving to the 360 servers when I get my internet back, along with three friends, so I'll have people to start with me from scratch. It would be more convienient for me to play 360 because I like the voice chat when I'm with those said friends, plus, if I stay on PS2 theyre leaving my ass behined and they are the only ones I play with regularly lol

Use ICS. I did that where I used to live(a long way back) because I had trouble using P2P netorks on the communal network and it worked fine.

I had my PC on wireless the had my XBOX(ONE wuth PSO) using ICS from my PC.

I was a reseatch resident and in that time the fact we had the internet was a privledge. I had to get a form signed and so on my my research fellow.... and ANYTHING other than using online darabase's was prohibted. In any case I played PSO and had NO PROBLEMS! I am not sure if they can not trave for this reason or never bothered to check....

Though technically your 360 would be plugged into your own private network... lame I know but I'd tkae the risk and if you get caught just say sorry you did'nt know, forgot or someone else did it:) they are not going to kick you out over it... maybe if it was porn sites or bittottent sites but not for a game site.
