View Full Version : XBox: PSO Voice-chat Simulation
http://www.pioneer3.net/sounds
Well, I don't have Xbox PSO, XBL, or even a broadband internet connection. I wanted, out of sheer boredom, to go ahead and give using real speech in PSO a whirl. There's like 20 mp3 files or a nice .zip if anyone's interested.
Uh, it's explicit, and down-right dirty. So, children need not apply(read: KIDS DOWNLOAD THIS SHIT NOW!!!1).
IMHO, it sucks, but then again, so do I, and the xbox too.

I was going through your site and I found this amusing.

Unlike some PSO sites, I don't try and act like some kind of "thought police" force or something, and if someone wants to express disdain for this site, or any other site(and in all fairness, they bash my board far more), I'm not going to try and stop them http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

So true Spy, i trully see your point in your sarcastic display of LIVE Voice Chat. i especially liked the monomate comment, anyway, you have a point, PSO shoul always and stick to the Keyboard format, no Live chat. Afterall, do you want some lvl 50 hollering, double cannon for trade 50X?

Yes yes... let's all avoid the voice chat feature. I will find a way to turn off voice chat and disable the anti-mod protection (not because I want to cheat but because I want to play at all!!). I'll use use the USB->Xbox keyboard adaptor thing I made.

On the bright side, at least if it does sound like this, remember you're just listening through the headset, so you don't have to worry about people passing by hearing other people cuss all the time or just plain act retarded. The voice chat is for your ear only. That was a relief when my sister's little kid was playing MotoGP with me online, I really didn't want him to sit and hear someone cursing up a storm when they crashed.

Xbox Live communicator does a great job filtering out background noise. Of course if someone has their volume on 200DB (standing near a plane equals 170DB) you can hear everything going on. People don't really talk unless they have to I've noticed... in Unreal Championship though I've gotten people to talk and cooperate on CTF. It doesn't sound corny if you ask me... Headsets are cool, way better than the KB!

I agree that in some situations the headset is better, but not in PSO. PSO is an RPG, and it takes away the role playing part if the cute HUnewearl standing beside you sounds like a guy. But, anyway, nice job Spy, it was frickin hilarious.

You must not play mechassault. I was in a game with 3 drunks and thier disguised voices. One kept insisting that he knows the muffin man. Then out of nowhere this Loud DEEP voice comes on and screams I AM THE MUFFIN MAN. It kept going on and on for 15 mins. Funny as hell but I don't think I would enjoy hearing about fairy tales while trying to kill a Rappie.. I mean common, it's hard enough as it is...

Well, er, Mechassault is sort of a mindless game, those people rambling about the Muffin Man probably are just trying to keep from dying of boredom. You can only deathmatch so much with giant robots on the same maps before you go nuts.

I mean common, it's hard enough as it is...AWESOME. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif A while back on PSO v2 I played with someone while his drunk cousin manned the keyboard for WELL over an hour... Oh lord. Never let a drunk near a keyboard, please. They may be fun to splatter in first person shooters and throw cans at during Mardi Gras, but alcohol and typing truly do not mix. Don't drink and type, people. Happy holidays.
Back on topic now. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif Those recordings were awesome. However... As was mentioned above, most people tend to use voice communication only when they need to, in most games. It may be that PSO is enough of a laid back game (huh huh huh, "laid") that people would make lots of lame PSO small talk and such, but hey... for C mode alone, this is an invaluable tool. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Example: I'm playing C1 with 3 other people. For the sake of simplicity, two of these players are doing well and making quick progress while g0kUSSJ69 is getting his ass demolished after wandering off into a room packed with boomas.
Normally, I'd have to pretty much stop what I was doing to type a quick "Get over here!" or something similar, or even WORSE, type it on the onscreen keyboard... But with voice communication, I could continue hacking down rappies and looking out for my wingmates, all the while giving our retarded little friend some instructions, detailed if needed.
Stuff like that would make it all worthwhile for me. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Or maybe a quick order, telling one player to press the switch closest to the door... instantaneous and hands free.
And man, I just realized that the difference in the way a lot of us pronounce these PSO words/names is gonna drive me INSANE. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif Man, it never even occured to me that RAmarl is pronounced "RAY-marl"; I always said "RAH-marl", makes perfect sense to me now. Ray = ranger, D'OH!!! Those monster names can be killer, though.
"Let's go get that PO-WILLY slime!"
"Huh? You mean the POW-WILLY slime?"
"What are you idiots talking about?! It's a PO-WILY slime!"
Etc., etc., etc...

Awwwww I love playing drunk. I dont' do it often, but It's a lot of fun. In fact, my mostest, favoritist, person to play PSO with, had a tendency to be drunk whilst playing.

if some newbie doesnt know about c-mode we use to instruct the one not knowing in advance - read: when 4 players are in a game and before we enter the actual challenge.
but usually if you dont know anything about c-mode you would have to tell the others so they know from the beginning that they have to guide you. i always tell, when i'm not that familiar with a particular c-mode-stage...
besides this...
if anyone has some spare time and nothing else to do, you could pm me some background about that 'muffin man'-thing, because i'm watching 'shrek' recently (over and over again, btw) and i'm a white sheet of paper when it comes to american fairytales and so on and this conversation between the gingerbreadman and lord f. confuses me a little bit (i know about the gingerbread-man by now, tho...)
thanks in advance http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
^_^
Just for shits and giggles and whatnot I decided to record myself in actual online gameplay. Since they are somewhat long(the first two test files are about 5mb a piece, with the next recording at about 5 times that size), I'm playing with some other standards of audio compression, mainly OGG, and when I can get them hashed down to more reasonable sizes, I'll probably upload them. That's if my think-tank agrees that it would be a wise/funny move.

There have been a few times however when even experienced players have needed explicit directions (not that I always have those directions though). Remember all those switches in C3? Ugh! It takes a lot of time to type two or three sentences in order to direct someone to a specific switch in part of the room.
And then there're those that flatout lie that they know the level when in fact they don't. I love that. :/
Looking forward to those clips, Spy. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif
