I have never had a FSoD, but I went to Antares 8-01 just now and it was pretty crowded... So I started a one-player game and when I exited out of the game it took me to Antares 8-02...
I went to try to get back into Antares 8-01 and the FSoD happened... which leads me to think the FSoDs that everyone is having comes from trying to go somewhere that is way too crowded. I also noticed that several people were sitting in chairs... now Barbaruy (or however his name is spelled) has mentioned before that people sitting in chairs loads up the memory or something and will FSoD people coming into the same lobby...
Oh well.. no harm really done anyway... I just lost my new mag I was working on... it was just a level 51 Madu, along with all of my items...
and my Red mechgun... yeah that's it.. my Red Mechgun... yeah. anyone want to give me a new one? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

You could be right! Yesterday I got FSOD 3 times trying to join the busy US Ships. So I went to a virtually empty Japanese ship and played there. No lag, no FSOD, no problem!
Side note: Boy, are Japanese people ever kind and polite!

Not everyone...there are many players who shoe me away, just because I'm American. I don't do anything to bug them; in fact, I always say thank you after something like Shifta/Deband, Resta, and Reverser, and I never try to make anyone mad.
But, back to the point... The JP ships are almost never causes of FSoD...and yes, I have recieved a few FSoDs from going into Antares/08.

Last night, me and some friends were hanging in Ant 8-1 and eventually it got pretty crowded, and at least two people got FSOD. I believe one of my friends even got BSOD, but that may have been earlier in the night during a game.
I'm guessing it's just crowded lobbies that causes lobby FSOD... but I don't rule out the possibility of specific blocks being more buggy than others. Hmm...

it's not the busyness of a ship, because I have gotten FSOD from a block with no one on it. It's a server problem, I believe what causes it is that the server sends the information to the GC too fast cauing it to crash.

It's just a matter of time until someone finds a way to exploit this FSoD lobby bug for malicious intentions. In the meantime, I would never carry unequiped valuables in the lobby to begin with. Just tuck them safely away in your bank and FSoD will just become a minor annoyance instead of a way to lose your valuables.

stupid question: what exactly are FSoD's and BSoD's?

Frozen Screen Of Death and Black Screen Of Death
They're when your game locks up.

FSoD = Frozen screen of death
BSoD = Black screen of death
they mess ur game up and usually make u lose all unequiped items

Nope, banked items will be safe unless your character gets corrupted or something. Which is why it's a good idea to keep your most important stuff in there when you're not equipping it. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

both are caused when Sonic Team decides to rail you in the behind
Yea, the more crowed a block the higher chance of FSOD when teleporting to that block. Mostly due to the gamecube being overloaded with information.
I tend to go to uncrowded blocks/lobby because the gamecube also loads faster. Can't be bothered waiting for the game to load for so long, just to have it freeze on me because of some lousy GC/server glitch.

Lobby FSOD is just Peps and Fingles first step to their takeover of PSOW. Once they have control of our meeting place, they're coming for the site next, making it http://www.peps-world.com. Lobby rats are sneaky. =/
