Luckily I haven't gotten any mail during C mode yet, it'd suck to have that stupid little mail icon on the top of my screen for the duration of the challenge.
Man, Nintendo wants GCN's online gaming to DIE. I'm convinced of it. Of course, any US based 3rd party peripheral manufacturer could make a keyboard at any time, right? They don't need Nintendo OR Sega's permission, and they'd make a killing as the SOLE keyboard provider in the US.
Jeez, one of those companies has GOTTA have something planned...

It seems like a no-brainer to me. Making a keyboard, that is. A lot of people would buy it! In any case, I'm sure ASCII is getting rich off all us importers. They should too; better them than Nintendo. Nintendo's wishy-washy, unmotivated approach to online gaming makes me sick.

OMG I HATE THAT. At least twice now I was in the middle of typing a long sentence when... BAM! Photon blast, and I lose every bit of the damn thing. I used the "I'm angry!" symbol a few times, but I don't think they understood what I meant.
Sometimes I think photon blasts are more trouble than they're worth... They've been the cause of a few unavoidable deaths for me too, when I'm close to one or two enemies and low on HP for example, and unable to move away or heal before I'm hit again after the blast. Ugh...
The S/D photon-blast when used with another makes PBs all the worth while.

To relate this back to keyboards, it's hard to coordinate PB combos without being able to say who should use what. Especially if you're playing with people who are new to the game and don't even know you can PB combo. It's frustrating playing with people who are new. I try to help em out, but I fall behind alot because I have to sit there trying to type out long explainations http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I dunno why but it really annoys me when people with keyboards do lobby animations. It just makes me want to hurt them...and steal their keyboards >:D
It's called "jealousy", sweet-heart. ^o^

Man, I wanna make Ghaleon dance. And do fruity, feminine gestures and animations, just like the real Ghaleon. It'd be worth the price of a keyboard just to make my characters do cross gender animations.

I'm not sure I agree with that completely. Yeah, anyone who made a keyboard or an adapter would have 100% of the US market right now. But how many people is that, really? How many people signed that petition that was floating around? 1,000? 2,000? Heck, let's get crazy and say they could sell 5,000 units. Now let's say that after materials, R&D, marketing, and all that crap, this company stands to make $5 to $10 profit on each unit they sell.
!!! Whoa! That's $50,000 !!!
Well, that sounds like a decent chunk of money to me right now... but to a major manufacturer, that's nothing but a hill of beans. I guess my point is that when I consider things from a production point of view, I begin to understand why no one's made anything for the US market yet.
And what about the little guy? Maybe some smart-ass college kid has what it takes to whip up a keyboard adapter over his winter break. I bet he'd LOVE to make 50 large... but how is that one person gonna make all those adapters by himself? It wouldn't be possible... so he makes a few for his friends and maybe sells a handful of them before he gets tired of making them. (BTW, I predict this will come to pass in the near future...) Maybe someone would buy and produce the design... maybe not... maybe he'd get sued by Nintendo or Sega. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
Believe me, I'm with every one of you in wishing that we all had keyboards the day the game came out. But it just doesn't make good buisness sense for a major comapny to put a lot of effort into making a peripheral that is currently supported by only one game. And as much as I would love it if someone did it anyways simply for the love of the game... well, I'm not holding my breath.
Sorry for the pessimistic post... like I said, I want a keyboard just as much as the rest of you. I just think that in the current economy, we're not going to see any major companies get behind any product unless there's serious money to be made.

--Did I mention I'm a poet?
No no, the most frustrating is when you're typing something really long...then you accidentally hit an "F" key in the software keyboard, so instead of saying.."I will trade you this for that"... they see, "I need to go to town--need supplies".....
All the while your jackass ass (whoah...jackass ass..thats DEEP) is standing by the store.
If a 19th party made a keyboard, I wouldnt give a #*@!--if it's under $50, I'll buy 10 of them.

However, at the same time, there're 3rd party companies that make dance pads for DDR and even maracas for Samba De Amigo! Those peripherals are much larger in size and more expensive in production than any keyboard, and both games are pretty niche, especially Samba which sold a little over 22,000 copies. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif PSO has, as of November, easily broken that mark, and by now is probably at least twice that.
So... it's just boggling to me that there's STILL no word on a US keyboard. :/

Indeed. $50,000 is a nice amount of money, because it is a profit. If you told a company that they were going to make nothing but profits on a product -- no losses involved -- they would do it. The third party manufacturers are not exactly multi-million dollar conglomerates. Nintendo, on the other hand, can afford to not fill in such a niche. They are safe financially, despite the so-so performance of the Nintendo 64 and the current sales pace of the GameCube.
Plus, as aforementioned, the "Samba de Amigo" maracas were a limited production item that was extremely hot. Considering what people are willing to pay for GameCube keyboards, I truly doubt any player who is presently without one would have issues with paying far less than $80 to get a third-party keyboard. If they keep it rare, but let enough of them trickle out to satisfy demand, it will be entirely worth it for the respective company.

This is true Laryinn, however. What about future titles like perfect dark 2, sin't that supposed to have onine funtion? I'm sure there's more than just PSO online for cube being planned. If so the keyboard would be a great perpherial for those games i'd assume drawing in more customers.

I know I must come off as an extreme fan at times like these, but I wish people would understand SonicTeam's limits. I do not like hearing them undeservingly slandered left and right.
SonicTeam does not manufacture peripherals. They are a team of designers and programmers. Also, Sega no longer has any hardware manufacturing facilities -- they went with the Dreamcast.
Complaining about Sega and SonicTeam will do you no good. However, Nintendo does have the means to produce and distribute a keyboard, although it is doubtful they will do so. Third parties are your best bet.

Yeah your right. It's just that well don't you remember Sonic Team sayin, we are contacting hardware devlopers to try and ensure a keyboard is available for the games launch? Yeah where'd that lead to...apparently no where. And I guess i should have put "i want to slap nintendo in the face" i do love sonic team. Just the whole mess frustrates me. Especially since i had to pay 67$ For a KB that stinks, =P But i see your opint and your right. thanks =)

Yeah, I remember. It was a disappointment, and it did inspire me to postpone purchasing PSO for GC. Obviously, I eventually caved and bought it nonetheless. I seriously considered importing a keyboard -- in fact, I went so far as to put one in a checkout cart and was ready to pay for it -- but decided against it at the last moment. I am waiting it out to see what happens.

Not a problem. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif I am a huge SonicTeam fan, too, which is why I can be so defensive. I know that all it will get me is brownie points, but that's okay.
