Sep 26, 2007, 02:02 PM
The official Japanese PSU site has gotten a MASSIVE overhaul (http://phantasystaruniverse.jp/news/wis/?mode=view&id=455). This link details all of the stuff that will be available right off the bat. Give me a moment, and I'll have a full translation for you guys. I'll edit stuff in as I go.

Ambition of the Illuminus present
All players who sign on to network mode between now and the end of October 31 will receive a free Soniti shadoog in their common box.

New fields
* AMF HQ Underground
* Military Metro Linear
* Old Rozenom City
* Granigs Mine
* Saguraki C.D.

New Parum free missions
* AMF HQ Recovery
The underground AMF HQ facility is running wild with infected CASTs. Vaccination against the SEED-Forms is no longer an option, so purification is required...

* Metro Linear Breakthrough
CAST soldiers infected with the SEED-Virus are headed through the Metro Linear to an unknown location. Cut them off at their destination!

* Planet's Scar
The GUARDIANS Colony crashed in the vicinity of Rozenom City causing massive destruction. The city is now defenseless and the remaining refugees are fighting for their lives against native creatures turned hostile.

* City of Thunderbeasts
A sample of GRM's SEED-Virus was released from a research lab when the GUARDIANS Colony crashed near Rozenom City, thus infecting native creatures in the area. Purify the ferocious Gainozeros!

New Neudaiz free mission
* Cherry Blossom Magic
Saguraki Forest has been declared a protected area, just like Mizuraki, and now a large outbreak of monsters is damaging the trees. Suppress the leader Koumazuri and save Saguraki!

New Moatoob free missions
* Ice Caverns
Surviving contaminated native creatures from the previous SEED invasion have been discovered in Granigs Mine, an ex-coal mine on the northern continent. Purify them!

* Serpent's Awakening
De Rol Le, a native creature from ancient times that was encased in the ice under Granigs Mine has been awakened by the SEED-Virus being spread by the Illuminus. Suppress the De Rol Le!

New lobbies
* Numerous new lobbies, including Casino Volyale, have been added.

Item-related additions
* New weapon categories have been added: photon whips, slicers, shadoogs and madoogs.

* Numerous new weapons have been added across all categories. Also, up to 7-star weapons will be sold at weapon shops and up to 8-star weapon boards.

* New units (up to B-grade) have been added.

* New clothes and parts have been added. Furthermore, five new color variations have been added or existing clothes and parts.

* New photon arts have been added. (Chiki Kyoren-jin for slicers and Vishi Grudda for whips.)

* New SUV-weapons have been added. Gigas Espada (sword) and Gigas Faust (fist).

New types
* Acrofighter and Acrotecher have been added.

I poked but I guess instead of labeling illuminus items as yellow, they're completely invisible to v1 players.

Any explanation of this SUV?

I've seen it plenty of times in still pictures but don't know how good it is or it's functions.

Technically, Pikachief isn't that wrong. 'sonichi' (which is how it is written on the JP page) stands for ST(Sonic Team) for Japanese players.

Thats the same thought i had in mind with the new classes as well. Im glad that they are capping all classes of at 15 for the beginning. Save some stuff for the rest of the year. Not to mention since ive capped all the jobs on my main ive got alot of work to do when aoi comes out lol. And wow soniti shadoog for everyone who logs in? thats awesome---ish. Rarity on that shadoog just dropped in value. Especially considering no more breaking weps in aoi. umm does jp have that as well or are they adding that sometime later? I havnt really paid attention to their updates that closely.

I believe mission ranks were rebalanced so that S equals our current S2 and A is somewhere around what our S is now.

Not sure if that was just speculation or confirmed, though.

A couple of bugs have been noted (http://phantasystaruniverse.jp/news/wis/?mode=view&id=459).

The following synthesis boards have some mistakes in their material listings.

[b] Zax Breba
[B] Zax Bogodda
[B] B'duki Boa
[B] B'duki Magana
[B] B'duki Pyso
[B] Kokurosohki
[B] Yurasohgi
[B] Aikasouki
[B] Kohmatore
[B] Beemtore
[B] Paisotore
[B] Magga S'bina
[B] Magga Draga
[B] Magga Guin

Two boards are known to not synthesize correctly when Kubara Wood is used in them. These are:

[B] B'duki Pyso
[B] Arb Pyso

Players are asked to not use Kubara Wood on these boards at this time.

Just a few more pics with grind stats and FT 12.

Crimson +4:

Some weapons are good to grind, and some S-Ranks were absolute crap for grind gains. Gizahazashi, Two Headed Ragnus, Hyper Viper, generally suck in terms of grinding, even by Grade A standards.

Only one I've bothered with is machineguns. 24% element, 6 pp a bullet and a 6% increase in ATP from level 30 to 31.

So, uh... how's the new music? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif I think the only areas open that weren't in the beta are Saguraki C.D. and Metro Linear. Any new tunes with them or just reused stuff?

Illuminus isn't even live yet, no way to register your code. Assumably ST will add it later today.

Meanwhile, I found out that amazon might have a delay in shipping the game so I definately won't be getting it today. Maybe tomorrow or the following.

In other news, crea doubles are the new crimson in terms of rarity. There have been over 13 drop in the last 7 hours.

Disk PA system
According to the manual, you go into the menu, select your PAs (where you normally view level etc) and you can turn it into a disk from there.
The manual however, does not state whether you can transfer the disk to other characters (even on the same account)

ZeroVer01
Sep 27, 2007, 12:31 PM
So when you turn photon art into a disk, does it retain its level?

And if so, does this mean the level is stored on the disk, or is it stored in the character info???

y'know I actually see more lag in parties with a bunch of PC users than I do PS2 users. I suspect performance has been improved to a notable extent. maybe loading times aren't much better, but I'd bet they added frameskip and have cleaned up weapon lag. loading time can't really be fixed without downscaling, but the rest was just bad programming.

I'd love to get my hands on the PS2 version for offline purposes only. just to poke around and check out the weapons, character creation, etc...

Load times are the same as they were for PS2. No mention about parties though.

Sega has no official forums for the Japanese version, so a large majority of players probably won't ever bother.

PS2 isn't as bad as people think and say. I get occasional lag, but I've never once had to 'reboot' like many PC players have to. And when I disconnect, it's because of my ISP or the servers, and not my PS2. The only gripes I have are that weapon lag can be a pain (especially with spells), I can't take screenshots, and it takes longer to get to places than it would if I was on PC. Otherwise, I personally prefer the PS2 version for comfort and controls.

If they were to fix weapon lag and reduce loading times for areas on PS2, all I would be missing are enhanced graphics and the ability to take screens.

It's not just bad load times, it's the weapons & techs dropping out mid-block because the darn console can't remember what you were using 2 seconds ago! I always feel self-conscious about what other party members could be thinking, "Why is he suddenly not helping me?" etc.

Same here. It's a big pain when my Resta suddenly doesn't load; usually always happens when it's needed the most, too!

Niloklives
Sep 27, 2007, 02:31 PM
I'm on PS2 myself and I'm usually fine. the weapon lag (not load times, but the game basically unequipping me) is my biggest complaint while the second is the extreme slowdown which makes me move slower than my teammates and end up being a room behind...usually on timed missions. those problems aside, I'm usually pretty happy with the PS2 and those problems don't come up often enough for me to offer heavy complaint.

HFlowen

I only ever notice some "matrix" moments during heavy fighting. It's kind of cool though, I can see PC players getting knocked away before the enemy has even finished his attack, so I usually run away, lol.

I have had those "weapons refuse to load" moments a couple times. It's irritating, but doesn't happen often enough for me to worry.

What about the new stages such as the remade Forest?

Also, are the Partner Machinery kits available offline in AOI as well? And what about room space, any more spots for decorations?

MAGs are nowhere to be seen in this game. Madoogs and shadoogs are, however. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif Both weapon types are available offline along with all of the previously online-exclusive weapons like cards and grenades.

A few more questions:

For offline, do the free missions still only have one rank with the same set levels, or did they bring about C, B, A, etc for some free missions to give offliners a bit more of a variety when playing offline?

Is the level cap still 100?

Did they make it so that the gameplay is more like online, in otherwords, is the meseta that drops still really high and whatnot?

Do they still only have the three basic classes for offline mode or did they find a way to incorporate the advanced classes in this time around?

Can the extra mode free missions be played at the start of AOI offline?

About partner machines, how will my LV100 extra mode GH-420 evolve in AOI?? And also, I know that there will be a butler type and bishonen type PM, but will there be a "sonic" PM???

No room remodeling as far as I know.

At the start you can only access Parum. You have to complete the Story Missions (started at Clyez City 5f) to unlock other planets and missions.

And not sure about PMs.

Thanks for the helpful list of feedback Chibi.

I'm sorry to hear that offline doesn't have PM devices, buuut having C-S rank free missions offline is enough to make up for it IMO. Offline PSU was horrible seeing how you could never really do the early missions again later on without walking through them without a challenge. Thankfully the mission rank system offline will keep offliners a bit more busy as well as help persuade them to get online.

Due to the fact that offline content is less than the stuff people get on the online, I am totally convinced that I will be getting online, but then again.. To get online, I need to spend a lot of money on the router, as well as wasting time figuring out how to get the acceptable payment methods, its kinda discouraging though.. Still, its worth it!

I just reactivated my PSU licence for the 1up cup, but I'm really hoping that AOI is as fun offline as you say it is.

Most of the time, I can only play online via dial-up, and ya... it's not that fun with that connection -_-
