a couple questions about PSU JP (not AoI)

I've been thinking about switching to the JP server of PSU for a while because of the population. So here are my questions:

1. Do I need to be completely fluent in Japanese or I'll be screwed? I can speak a bit, but I dont understand a lot of kanji. I know some kanji and all of hiragana and katakana.

2. My PC sucks so I would have to get the PS2 version. Will it play on my US PS2 and if not(not sure if this is against the law or not)is there any way to bypass the region protection?

a JP game won't play on a US PS2...due to the region coding.

From what I've heard, PS2 won't let you play PSUJP because of connection issues.

Oh well, guess I'll just stick with US then. Also I just saw the 1UP cup info so thats exciting.

Get a Japanese PS2, and it should work. Otherwise, yeah.
