Guess what. I had to reformat my PC today. AGAIN. Because my ISP made the brilliant deduction that MY computer somehow managed to reacquire the IRCBot thing I reformatted the last time to get rid of. Apparently, I got it through MSN, as it's one of those trojans that send you messages out of nowhere from a contact saying "Hi, check out this link. (insert URL WITH MY OWN FUCKING EMAIL ADDRESS IN IT.)" Because I'm totally stupid enough to click on a link WITH MY OWN EMAIL ADDRESS IN IT that I get out of the blue from a contact I haven't spoken to in months. Obviously.
"Sir, you'll have to reformat your computer, and then call us back and we'll unsuspend your modem services."
Yeah, well, the next time you suspend my modem Rogers, I'm lighting your WebSTAR modem on fire and punting it through the the window of the closest Rogers Video I can find. You can go fuck yourselves. I'll go back to using Bell. Yeah, FUCKING BELL SYMPATICO.
That's a story in itself, that I will explain sometime later today after I finish writing the most idiotic English essay of my life, and finish installing everything.
Holy fuck, do I need to hit something.

wtf, They suspend your service, AND make you reformat?
I never heard that before, sounds horrid though.
I've never herd of a service Forcing you to reformat x.x

Wow forcing you to reformat sounds a bit harsh but Im sure you got the proper anti virus software?
I got Rogers myself and I never had this problem but I guess I never click on those retarded trojan links either.

I don't click on those either. I was being sarcastic to show I was astonished they thought I'd be that stupid. I scanned my computer four times the last time they warned me, and it never returned any results. Then they suspended my modem when they "caught it attacking their server." They forced me to reformat both computers on the network before they'd unsuspend it.
I even manually searched through my Registry for the damn thing and couldn't find it. Then I get home from school today and see the modem lights blinking in unison (signifying the suspension of my modem). So I called them up and they guy said "It's still there, on Tylor's (my) PC. You'll have to reformat it."
"But I did that a week ago."
"Well, it's still there. Reformat it or we will not unsuspend your modem service."
I swear to God if they suspend me again I'll explode. They can take their IRCBot and shove it up their asses. IT'S NOT. FUCKING. HERE.

Typical Canadian guideline: DSL service is horrenduously bad, and cable is worse.

So, this Bell story.
So, when I first got a computer, we got our internet through Rogers. Which was fine, until one day it went down (like normal. >_>) and never came back up. I called them up, and they gave me a fix to try. That I needed the internet for. After working around that, it didn't even work, so I called them again. Basically, they told me that the problem was on their end, and I"D HAVE TO PAY THEM TO FIX IT. So we dumped them. Then, when my mom and her boyfriend bought a house together (I went around 9 months with no intarwebz), we kept his internet subsciption to Bell Sympatico. They worked alright (but I had sporadic problems with Xbox Live), but then my mom and her boyfriend split (read: if we hadn't been outside when he started threatening my mom, I would have taken him through a couple windows) we bought a new house, and ordered a new modem from Bell. It got here about a week after we moved, and didn't worked. I called them once a week for a month trying to get this DNS issue resolved, and they basically had no advice to give me. All the while, we were being charged for the service we weren't getting. So, my mom had enough, called them up, asked them how we were to go about sending the modem back, and got them to refund the money we payed for the service we never got. Rogers came over two days later and had me up and running in about an hour.
The funny part? Two and a half months after we sent the modem back, I got a call. An automated voice was on the other line and said (this is a quote), "The issues with your internet service should now be resolved. If you have any more problems or questions, please call us at __________."
I shit you not.
DSL just doesnt work for me since Bell is too half assed to install a repeater around the area.
Rogers seems to work ok for me though. Have you checked all the other computers for viruses (if you do have a home network) or check to make sure your router is function properly (if you have one).

They told me (specifically this time. Last week they just told me to reformat ALL computers. Which I did). that it was on Tylor's PC. Which is mine. They said I had to reformat (again) before they would unsuspend my modem.

I honestly don't get how they're able to recognize that you formatted your hard disk. Do they even tell you the mechanics behind it or they just take your word for it?
An ISP should not ask you to reformat a computer everytime something fucks shit up. That's what AV and anti-malware programs are for. If I had to reformat everytime I did something remotely dubious with my computer, I wouldn't even be alive right now.

hell, the trojan could be in your modem's firmware?
Rogers customer service people are a load of jerks. After seeing enough of my friends go through Rodgers Hell over goddamn cable TV I figure there's no hope they can do a competent job as an ISP. If you don't dig going back to Bell, why not try Golden or some of the other places in town?
Tell them it's there fault for not giving you free Norton like they say they do in commercials. Also actually tell them your switching to bell see what they say. Most of the time that got them to fix my problems/leave me alone.

I assume they're taking my word for it. I don't want to lie, because the next time they find something attacking their server, they'll suspend my modem for a week. That, will force me to blow a fuse.
i had to reformat my computer from a virus that i got. my dad bought me an external usb hard drive so i could back up all my files. then when i got a virus for the second time, i knew the drill reformatted and kept my files on the external HDD. what i noticed with virusses is that; they generally infect the windws system older and nothing else and two, antivirus software causes your computer to run piss slow.
what i do now, is i have a microsized shell verion of windows xp, where i turned off all the services and crap running in the background so everything runs really fast and that i can reformat on a whim. then i got a wireless case for my HDD, so i can access all my file on a network from any station in my house. if windows catches something fucked up then i reformat, but all of my files are 100% safe in a remote location.

Simple...they're just telling you to reformat because it's the simplest solution for them to give you, and they're automatically going to assume they're dealing with idiots.
Have you tried Hijackthis? It's a good program if you know what you're doing.
Nonetheless, sounds like a shitty service. BTW, don't use MSN.

i agree. charles rogers was drafted in the first round by detroit 4 years ago and never produced results! albeit he had injuries, being suspended on marijuana charges is the last thing you should get from a wide reciever that was praised from michigan state. if he really cared of being in the nfl, he would have taken it much more seriously.
