View Full Version : Offline Mode vs Online Mode

I understand the basic differences between Offline (Extra) mode and Online mode. But I still have a couple of questions:

I notice many screenshots of new weapons from AOI. Are the majority of these found in Offline mode? It seems so.

If that is the case, does 99/100 percent of items in offline mode appear at some point (updates) in the future?

Is there really a benefit of playing Offline versus Online if you have an internet connection or is it just to see the stuff sooner? Or do many prefer to play both for whatever reason?

I guess this could be summed up with:

1) What percent of the time do you play Online?
2) What percent of the time do you play Offline?
3) Why the preference?

1) 100%
2) 0 %
3) Why? Because it's not only the way the game was meant to be played, but it's also the best part about the game.

For me the first days of psu was 100% offline Story Mode cause of the story. Extra mode I never cared for except for looking at new stuff sooner. It was just to easy. These days I am playing psu 100% online cause of the content and challenges it presents. Its so much fun!! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif. Aoi will be no diffrent for me since you will get the whole offline story mode online as well since all cutscenes will be availible online. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

1) 99%
2) 1%
3) I play like 75% for the people I know on PSU, so what would be the point of playing offline? Don't get me wrong. I enjoy playing PSU, but there are some things I only tolerate (such as mission grinding and hunting) because of my friends. Also, even though offline started out with more content than online, online has steadily gotten more and more than offline; there are co-op missions and stuff online that offline doesn't have. PLUS, you miss out on events and such. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

3) I enjoyed messing around with Extra mode because its easy to create a new character, and test out if you like them before taking them online. Plus, Extra mode is a great way to zone out if you're burnt out with hunting something online only to never see it drop, because offline is so broken/easy it will instantly make you happy when you level up like three times during one mission. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

3) I haven't gotten into extra mode. My son likes it because the progression is much faster and he only plays online when I am with him. I am willing to wait for the new stuff as it means constant change for the next year at least. Unless I am grinding a PA skill or items, I love keeping my missions open and having people pop in and help. Adds variety. BTW, my son really loves that aspect of the game and he never closes his missions http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I just recently picked up Extra Mode (I beat Story Mode when the game first came out, just never messed with Extra because I immediately jumped into Online) because I hear you can import your Extra Mode character into AoI Offline. Figured I'd get a little head start with PAs and such.

But it seems that off-line mode from AoI its much better than the PSU extra mode.
If that so, iīll prefer to stay off-line. I donīt like the idea of creating a character only for Online, if i could use it in the two modes maybe, something like PSO. But yes, PSUīs extra mode is to easy and donīt have nothing.

I played through story mode the first week when the game was kind of odd balling itself with the servers and such. Even if there would've been no problems, I still woulda beaten it first. Why? Well, the events online are a direct result of the offline story, and build on it.

The game is meant to be played offline at least once either before or while you play online.

I made an offline counterpart to my online character for the same reason. Seems like it is largely easier with the finding of stuff from what I've seen.

Perhaps easier isn't the word though. Perhaps the word is "reasonable."

I miss my axes though.

And finding clothes is a bitch (how exactly does one get anything other than the default outfits?).

Just to add a point, I wish I could download copies of my characters, with their online jobs, stats, weapons and everything. I'd like to keep them preserved on a memory card for the inevitable day when the servers go down way down the line.

>>>What percent of the time do you play Online?

Zero percento. Well, I need to spend 300 bucks on the wireless router, accessories, and also the visa/mastercard hassle before I can get online, which will be in 2008 or 2009.

>>>What percent of the time do you play Offline?

I beat story mode once, because of the story itself involving the protagonist Ethan Waber and it also unlocks everything for extra mode.

Extra mode, I had expected that the only reason why there was an extra mode was that it will serve the purpose of file transfer into offline AOI which has already been confirmed. And so, I play extra mode 100% of the time to save up meseta for the new equipment, items, and room decorations for AOI, as well as leveling up and getting ready for AOI.

Online: 75%
Offline: 25%

I perfer online mode since its more fun to play with people. Also you lvl up so fast in offline Extra mode. A lvl 15 Kogg Nadd gave me 666 exp http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif.

Basically I did offline for the story first after finishing that I went online.

3) While I like the slower grind (as in you don't hit level 100 in a couple days of playing) and more clothing/weapons in Online.. and the thousand-times-better My Room (why does your extra mode characters have a picture of Ethan and Lumia on the wall? ._.) and motions... I don't really think it's worth paying a monthly fee for, especially since all that stuff is included on the game's disc and SHOULD have been made available offline... As for the actual online community, I've always found that the general population in online PS games is really unfriendly and arguementative, much worse than most online games I've played. It'd probably be a lot better if you made friends with people from here or another community first, but joining or trying to make friends with random people in game hasn't worked out for me yet. And every lobby conversation I've heard when passing by is either flaming or talking about genitals. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif That's probably the biggest detraction from online for me.

3) Well, I really was only playing Story mode to finish the story. It was really just an interim to me--my goal was to get online ASAP. It was well worth it when I came online. And I do have to agree with Tei. There's alot of rude people when compared to PSO... But then again, no community can ever come close to the awesomeness of PSO. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

Online in every way. Offline will get boring from lack of others to socialize with.
