I'm working on a classic Phantasy Star fangame. I am using a program called RPG Director, Multiplayer Online version. It will be an MMO.

If you want a sample of what the game will be like, try this Final Fantasy based MMO made with the same editor. http://www.animetheme.com/animetheme.html (just click on the "Anime Theme World Online RPG" link on the left side of the page) no downloads required, it plays in the web window. Just log in as a guest and try it.

Anyways, back to my PS MMO fangame.
The game takes place on board the worldship NeoPalm immediately after the destruction of Palma. Before being destroyed by Rolf and his party, Mother Brain made copies of herself and transmitted them to the control systems of all the worldships except for Alisa III(which contained a Dark Force). These Mother Brain copies act as computer viruses and cause the systems of the worldships to go crazy. The systems have just started going crazy on the NeoPalm. You and your friends must team up, find the source of the chaos, correct it, and destroy the Mother Brain clone to ensure the survival of the Neopalm.

The game environments/maps will heavily resemble Phantasy Star III. The overworld maps will actually be modified versions of the PSIII maps. The enemies will be a mixture of Phantasy Star II and IV enemies(I would never use the terribly animated enemies of PSIII lol). And I can't decide if I will use character sprites from PSII or IV, I will probably use a bit of both.

Character Types:
Palman - Your standard non-magic Human, Good melee ability. (Orakians in PSIII)

Esper - Magical Humans, Good magic and not so good melee skills. (Layans in PSIII)

Numan - Biomonster/Human hybrid, all female, perfect balance of melee and magic, fastest stat growth.

Numans will start out overpowered compared to other types but as they level up they will begin to balance out with other types of equal level. To compensate for their overpoweredness they will start inside of a level 7 dungeon with low exp rewards instead of beginning inside of a starting town like the other types.

Android - you can't play as them, the Mother Brain clone virus on NeoPalm made them go insane.

I will be making the fighting system as similar to PSIV as I can. I doubt that I can make combo attacks though.

I will be using music tracks from the classic PS games and PSO, if you have any suggestions please post them.

So, what do you guys think of my little project?

Any chance the dungeons could be first person rendered instead? This was something that got cut from PS4. Also if this is an MMO, how will the battle system actually work? Like would another player be able to jump in if another player has already encountered an enemy? Also how can random AFKs be dealt with if you plan to do this turn based?

When you enter a battle by random encounter your party members will be alerted and they can click on your character to join the fight, when it comes to their attack turn they will appear in the battle with you. Basically if you are in a battle and your other party members are not they can click on you to assist you in the battle. The battle system is turn based like PSIV but there is no combo specials. Each person has a certain amount of time to attack before the turn is passed to the next in line. The maximum party space is 3 people per party and you can encounter up to 4 monsters in the same battle. I dont think I can do first person dungeons with the editor that I am using.

If you lose a battle you will exit the battle and will still be in the place you were standing when you originally started the battle but you and whoever joined you in the battle will only have 1 HP and will lose a life. You can use healing items to recover your HP and continue your quest or return to a hospital and gain your life back. If you lose a battle without a life your character will automatically log out and you will have to log back in and start over from the place where your character last saved.

Differences between Hospitals and Inns: Inns restore your HP and TP but not your life for a cost. Hospitals restore your life for free but dont recharge your HP or TP, you have to sleep in an Inn or use restoring items to restore your HP and TP. Hospitals usually have a cafateria inside them that sells Burgers(HP restore) and Colas(TP restore). Burgers and Colas are statistically a monomate and monofluid with an extra cure status effect on them. They cost less than monomates but they can only be used out of battle. (note that monofluids are not actually in this game, Colas are the only TP restoring item in the game but they can only be used out of battle.)

My PC went crazy on me and the entire hard drive went corrupt and I had to reformat. So I'm starting over again. Anyways working on this has given me some good practice with game development and I should be past the point where I was before in about 3 days if I dont procrastinate. I'll try to develop a local alpha test version that works over a LAN for you guys to try out.
