View Full Version : Master classes, oh god

So, I read Espiokaos's thread about the coming months of PSU. I read lots of good news, and I usually don't complain about Sega when they bring new stuff. I'm not like most of the people who would bitch at Sega for every little thing they do, but this is kind of meh. Master classes? Another tier of classes that would make our current expert types obsolete? I'm sorry, but no, this sucks big time. I liked the diversity of our classes as it was now, I mean, we had like 9 different types to choose from, but now, were gonna get reduced to just 4.

I keep hearing 2 possible ways for these to come out. Either they're classes that can only do one thing, and only one, or they'll be like offline classes. If its the latter, count me out. I don't care if I gimp myself, but this is just not something I'm crazy about. If its the former, I'm sure there might be a way to make them unbroken if they can do only one thing at all.

I heard it was in the game data but it's not really official - just some old data i think, maybe they were the initial forte's or something?

personally i doubt they will ever come into the game because it would make all other classes pointless.

Master classes WILL be added. Thy are in the JP update schedule for next year.

Yeah, its in the PSU General forum, go to the "Coming months in PSU [JP]" thread or something. And yeah, I think it sucks.

Hopefully they'll be restricted to only weapons of their specialty (ie: Gunmaster gets no melee or tech weapons whatsoever, not even a lowly c-rank saber).

I just hope that they either don't completely obsolete the advanced classes in some form, or that they eventually end up releasing a number of master classes that are comparable to the number of advanced classes.

It would be nice if they decided to add some form of a "custom" class with restrictions, a mix and match deal. It would seriously add something that feels fresh to this game.

Yeah, I agree w/ Omegapirate, either give them some flaws that would still make the current advanced types useful, or make master versions of the other advanced types and not just the Fortes. But yeah, its wishful thinking.

I see, well that's kind of depressing, why? think about who's going to get hit the most: forte's

if a masterclass is a more advanced forte, then whats the point in them. I'm thinking that these classes are going to be really elitist, and will have such little diversity it's going to suck fun out of the game.

I'll walk into a party as a fortefighter, someone will notice i am using the axe and twin sabers for example, they will say wait your not masterfighter? *boot*

all because i want to specialise in a variety of melee weapons. So if they do turn out to be restricted powerful classes i will also be very saddend, Shiroryuu.

Why's everyone so upset about the expert types possibly going obselete? Wouldn't you rather have what you have now only stronger with more abilities?

Personally I hate this diversity with the types. I would must rather have access to every thing with the type's realm at the strongest level and use what I want, not what ST put like that because they thought it was cute or something.

I don't see it all that broken either to combine some of the expert types into one either. What is broken is how certain types can be completely worthless in certain areas. If I like doing something, I'd like to be able to be decent every where. I don't need the stupid crap that I ran through with RO where a class I liked to play alot was essentially worthless in most areas and thus few people wanted to ever party with me on that character.

Besides, in the end it'd just be like PSO. Remember which game alot of people tend to like more? Yep.

I would be happy if master classes branched out, eg. master fighter gets double saber and axe, however i don't know if that's the case. I was in the believing that master classes dropped out weapons in order to become stronger at a key few?

Since its apparently just dummy data, just wait until it comes out. I wouldn't worry much about them just yet...

With this logic some of you must have been pretty pissed when the forte types came out, you know, seeing they made the basic types obsolete and all.

I think the problem lies in that if the master classes will indeed eclipse the expert classes we have now, we'll go from 9 "top" classes to 4. From basic to expert we went from 3 to 9. Variety is good. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Edit: Forgot that the Acroclasses will be around once master classes comes into play..

Yes, Mwabwetumba gets it. I kind of agree w/ Drag too, maybe I just have to see how it goes. And Otis, uhh, no. I wasn't pissed about Fortes making basics obsolete, I was actually pretty stoked about the 2nd tier of classes coming out. I'm hoping I can enjoy the Acros for a pretty long time though.

Maybe the Master classes can't use S ranks, have PT-like stats, and use extra PP per attack.

Oh, but get PA xp 4x as fast.

That should satisfy everyone, right?

Oh, and they also take forever to class level, and require a bunch of capped expert classes to boot.

Or they lose some of the a ranks the forte classes use and get a smaller bonus per each class level. The Hybrid classes may get a larger boost at 20 to compensate for some of the levels they wouldn't get from master classes.

Meaning the master class would still excel in the key areas they are for (Like fighmaster with atp/dfp and possibly lvl 50 PAs) and the hybrids would get extra % modifiers to make up for the 20 levels or whatever of master class they don't get, while not dominating over the primary stats, and keeping weapon slection.

We should wait until we get more info to start complaining.

It's hard to say where a bunch of new jobs would fit among the current Expert types. Because of that I'm guessing they'll be another class tier (dropping endgame character types to Fighter, Gunner, Force, Acro)

What would I want them to be like?
* Competitive stat mods with other classes
* 40/40/40/40 skill caps
* PP save on favored skill type (speed bonuses for Acro)
* good variety of melee, guns, tech equipment, traps on all classes (S-rank of course)

... so, on par with expert level jobs in terms of raw numbers but with only the 36PA cap to limit skill and equipment options.

I dun see whats the big deal. Hybrids get the Acro classes, Fortes get the Master classes.
Everybody's happy.

They're worried because it would be just like before expert types were released, only with 4 instead of 3.

The expert types were meant to cater to the different playstyles and make sure everybody isn't playing the same class, right? So why are they going back to the basics and attempting to kill diversity? It would have been easier to just stick with hunter, force, and ranger, and give the online and offline versions the same weapon selection if they're just going to re-narrow the expert types.

As long as I get to use S rank lances and daggers on the same job, I'm happy. If I get to use techs as well, I couldn't ask for much else.
You know, besides fin-wings and gills.

One reason why I think this doesn't have any negative impact on me is, I'm already a pure job. It'll be rather annoying that every hunter I'll see will have either my job or the acro job, but anything I get will most likely be a boost. I don't think I have anything to complain about.
