Your opinions on a better sponsor for the cup.

Now I thought it today, and I know it wouldnt happen, but do you think PSOW should have been the sponser? lol

PSOW Cup.. Gamespy Cup lol I dont know. But it would have been fitting.

Since the japanese got famitsu which is high profile, and PSOW is high profile in its own right.

Both are separate entities under the big Ziff Davis Media umbrella, each with their own separate editorial staff. They do seem to get together for podcasts and whatnot quite a bit, though.

No. Size of the sponsor doesn't make a difference; our event is almost exactly the same as the JP Famitsu, the only difference being the extra prizes, which are probably determined by the size of the sponsor.

Commercial or not, if it's got 500% drop rates and amazing experience, I can definitely stand people yelling "1UP! It's the largest..." every 30 minutes or so.

The 1Up sponsorship is probably tied in with the contract that was signed last year giving them exclusive access to news. If we had a serious estimate on how much it costs to sponser an event and the price wasn't too unreasonable, maybe something could be worked out. There are at least three more upcoming Cup Events planned for PSU and AotI.

I think that PSOW as the sponser would be real nice, but it would also be some sort of redundant as out of the two companies that decide to work together, one should not be PSO/PSU related at all. But my best bet would be IGN as a sponser. Followed by Gamefaqs or Gamewinners. For a real stretch, try the EB games cup. Or the EB games. Who cares? No seriously, why does anyone care in the slightest? All it does is change a few bits of text, it could be sponsored by McDonalds and it just wouldn't matter. We got the event though, that's what's important.

I think the thoughts behind people suggesting PSOW, PSUPedia, etc., is to have a sponsor that is a bit more involved with the player community already. 1UP is pretty disconnected from the player base I believe, even with all of the PSU exclusivity they have been getting since launch. However, that disconnection is what makes the partnership between 1UP and Sega mutually beneficial, as it gives both companies an opportunity to reach out to a user base that they may not have fully tapped into yet.

Would it be cool if PSOW was able to sponsor a PSU event? Definitely! If there's any site that should be able to, I would think it would be the one that has been around since the very beginning. As Ryna said, there are still a few more 'Cup' events lined up for us, so who knows what will happen down the road.
