Hello there, PSOW!

I'm currently working on a few art work on PSU and would like to share one or two to you guys.
I will show it's progress as I complete each step day by day, or probably days by days (depending on how much I update and work on it) so be sure to check this out as time passes!

Now, here's a preview of what my first one looks like:

I'm using Imageshack since the pictures I work on are very big.

Also... I'm going to do a small request form for pictures of your characters to be drawn and painted by me. Only a selected few, though. So... The first 2 to post pictures of their characters from different angles, as well as information about them will be selected.
No more requests at this time... Gotta finish these first xD

Images and drawings are all done on Photoshop 7 without the use of drawing palettes, but with only an optical mouse.

I don't have screen shots of my character, 360 version makes that difficult.
Can I post images I've snagged from PSOW that look quite alike?

EDIT: Kinda like this (http://www.apocalypse-tribe.com/ac9breaker/Videogames/psuex_0063.jpg) guy.

He once saved the life of a magical pimp, who then granted him fantastic powers. The Guardians merely borrow his services in exchange for a fully equipped kitchen where he cooks excellent italian food. Authorities are yet unsure if this is due to the magical pimp's powers, or if it is natural talent. He wields the chainsawd like a master brain surgeon does the scalpel. His name is Deucer, and yes, he is aware his name sometimes means poop.

Thanks and have fun with the colors/pose.

Check my sig for full artwork. I'd just post screenshots, but this is how she'll look in AoI. She's holding the Twin Tornado there.

As far as character information goes, she's a 17-year-old Guardian, in it to protect the Gurhal system from the SEED, and all those influenced by the SEED. This is driven by the murder of her childhood friend when she was young. She joined the Guardians when she was old enough, intent on discovering what made people do things like murder innocent children, and find a way to help stop it. She believes something much bigger is driving the SEED and the Illuminus, something she can only call "Dark Force."

If you need anything else let me know, I'm at work right now so responses might be slow. Your artwork is looking awesome!

Alright I started to draw the layouts of your characters really quickly. After I get done with those, I'll put them on a bit of a pending until I finish the first art work. >.> I'm not fast at these things since I want them to be precise since I only use a mouse to work on these xD! (I really zoom in like 1600x to pinpoint everything.)I haven't began on your character yet, Typheros, but I will later tommorow.

I'll update soon!

Still pending Typhero's! I'll get around to these soon xD

I acutally started drawing ALL of the clothing DonkeyBeats was wearing even the bottoms, until I noticed that the request was for the other bottom! So I had to redraw that part and lost time, lol. Oh well.

Did a bit of editing in the morning with the arm skin tone for my character's image.

The hair is going to be a challenge xD... I hate PS7 for not having a good amount of selectable brush combination thus having to download them. Hmm, I'll just wing it.

Ok I'll work on Typhero's outline today!

A quick update.

I decided to do a motion-like scene for Typheros.

http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/9673/dualweildingsketchpw7.th.jpg (http://img264.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dualweildingsketchpw7.jpg)

The character will be dual wielding, as seen in other pictures.

I'll finalize these outlines by the end of tommorow, I hope xD.

Also, Here's the project that got me started on wanting to start all of this. It was something I was first working on.

I've been doing plenty lately. Just some things to do while taking time off playing PSU.

Anyways! I decided to work on Deucer's arm color tone first since... I really wanted to work on that for some reason >.>

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/1975/cowboydeuceryk6.jpg

Since I skipped a lot of things, I know a few parts are a tad off. Of course this is very close to the beginning of the project anyways. That's the magic about Photoshop... Layers! >.>. I can get back on those afterwards xD.

I'm still iffy about the face, which is one reason why it's color tone is off, as well as facial expression and definition. I don't like having it look too anime either. We'll just have to see what I come up with...

Anyways, towards Deucer,
I hope ya like how it's coming along!

Celsea's coloring time!

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/6166/chelseastockingsgw2.jpg

Started off with the skirt and stockings.

My Photoshopping technique:
As you can see from the way I color, I first add in the base color. Then I would bring in a blend of the tool of burn and dodge. Afterwards, add in a mix of white with the smudge tool.
Usually afterwards, I would add a bit of extra hue of the basic color towards the finishing product. That will help make the texture feel more realistic.

Wow, coloring is coming along great! How many layers do you use?

Dj_SkyEpic
Nov 11, 2007, 11:18 AM
It can go over 100 xD but the current ones are around 30.

qoxolg
Nov 11, 2007, 11:28 AM
Wow! 100? I always try to keep it at 30, when I do more, photoshop starts to get real slow.. But I usually work at a resolution of 4000x8000.

Anayway, the coloring looks real good! are you doning all the lighting/shading with just blending dodge/burn layers?

Dj_SkyEpic
Nov 11, 2007, 12:12 PM
My lighting/shading are all done mainly with blending the dodge and burn as well as a pale version of the base color for added depth.

It's not all bad with 100 layers! The first layers I go with are usually the outline... Everything else just cuts down as their own layer xD... (Well I do group things that are far apart from one another such as the skirt edges.)

I just got used to grouping a few layer by name and color. I'm still new at photoshop, though! I haven't learnt exactly how to group things properly and recently got used to the pen tool. I haven't also learned how to use the other tool types too. >.>... I should experiment with them soon, but right now just relaxing with my chosen style for a bit.

Edited for redundancy. xD...

I actually prefer working with a mouse, though it works well with my simple style. I suppose I would prefer a tablet and stylus should I really get into blending and the like, but when it gets down to digital stuff I'm more of a simple illustration and design sort of guy. I really enjoy using the pen tool in Illustrator, too.

Though maybe there's just something dreadfully wrong with my artwork. >_>

Here's an update for tonight. I finally got to be able to work a bit on the picture again ( been rather busy) so I tried to finish up the hair and did a bit of the hand.

http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/7874/chelseahandsampleoz4.jpg

That's probably my worst enemy ever when it comes to art. The hands!

Hmm... You can see the detailed hairs as they are jutting out sort-of. I think some parts I need to tone down and others need more depth. I'll work on those later.

I'm pretty close to finishing this character! I dunno how many more updates it will need though xD! Stay tuned on the next exciting episodes of... DB...

Heh, a tablet is in every case better then an Optical Mouse. It's WAY more accurate, which makes it alot easier to create alot of small detail and of course the pressure sensitiveness, which alows you to draw thinner/thicker lines when you press soft/hard. And besided that, Optical mouse often have their own life and they suddenly make a stroke you didn't want.

for me it's: Tablet>>>>>>(Apple)Touchpad>>>Lasermouse>>>>>>>>>>>>Optical Mouse

And there is probably not much wrong with your stuff, if you want to keep your topic alive, you need to post a W.I.P. and keep updating it frequently.

anyway, the hand doesn't look that bad at all. Since you said it's almost finished.. what kind of background are you gonna do?

Cherry Blossoms are what I had in mind.

Here's another update on one of the things I worked on for this picture: The guns.

http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/4527/gunsketchbx4.jpg

Going to make that a single layer all together. I'll make the photon a separate layer. Looks weird right now I understand, xD... I don't have a good source for how the gun actually looks like. (I'm just using the picture I posted of it earlier and the picture from the S rank catalog.) Still need a lot of work on it, though.
As for the character itself, I'm working on her photon on her shirt atm. A lot of Pink! blinding... e..o

More updates to come.

I've seen a few of your vector-like artwork and I really do like them. The probable idea as to why there's dying interest is that maybe there needs to be more within the picture since there's usually only few things to display.

For example... Drawing flames are nice to look at, but if you draw a camp ground with skies and forests, then that'll bring a lot more attention.

Hope ya' understand!

Tonight's update is: Most of the areas I touched on at least.

[spoiler-box]http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/3972/almostcompleteli2.jpg[/spoiler-box]

I decided not to make them separate images and give ya a display.
Of course I can't show you a full product until the final version! So that's why it's like this.

I was able to work the gun into a hand! That's awesome. I can't wait to add a photon into it and the GRM label.
I'll try to work on the other half of the twin gun tommorow as well as start on a background.

Until next time! More updates to come.

I think the lower body/legs are the win.

Oh man. I don't know what I'm doing, XDD Ok, I'm in the "beta" of the character so far. Might need to tone her outline and so forth. It's been a long long drive to get to this area.

All I need to worry about now is the background and I'm not good at that xD; I'll still try for the blossom effects, but... I did say I wasn't going to show the character until the finished product. Well, let's just scratch that. Here's a huge image of her. Huge... Really.
[spoiler-box]http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/8176/fullchelseaqn3.jpg[/spoiler-box]

Now to think of a background! X...x;;

Oh! and to start on the others! Boy, seriously. I had a lot of fun with this one.

[spoiler-box]...and yes! I got really lazy with the ribbon and used a bummed-out bevel and embossing effect >..>;; I'll work on it later! xD[/spoiler-box]

I'm going to make a new sig for AoI, would you be okay with me using your artwork in it, provided I give credit?

My bad for the couple days of no updates. Just haven't been able to get on photoshop.

Anyway, I'm still trying to test out how to draw blossoms correctly. Seems like I might have to create my own brush for that.

Here's a test right now...

I might try a night sky instead. It's just a test, though.

Update... eventually? >.>;

great job on the grass! and about the sky.. it depends... the blue sky is not really matching the skintone of the character, but you can do two things: Add a blue shade to the character (a big soft blue/gray brush on 15~25 Opacity does the trick for me most of the time) or change the Hue/saturation of the sky a bit to make it match the skintone.
and goodluck with the blossom!

looking formward to the result http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 21st! I've been waiting for this one http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif.

This is a very special thing I've been holding up till now, and one of the reasons that kept me to continue playing PSU through 1up where I made my decision to discontinue due to real life values ( and not anything concerned about change in game play or what-not.) Whether I made friends or enemies, It has been a pleasure. There would always be something to look forward to in the game and forums that way.

Anyways, I Didn't really know how or what to give so this was what I came up with. I wish I had worked on it a bit more though but time doesn't permit. As noted before, this was the project that jump started what I wanted to do in this topic, and I hope to finish these all pretty soon... anyways... Click for big picture. big...
