View Full Version : Item: Halp Serafi: True Meaning?

I've been pondering what the name of my favorite dagger means. There are many possibilities, but first, it would be better to list the facts.

O Halp and Dagger of Serafi only drop on Christian holidays.

O The feather used to make it is described as:

A white, light, bright, and almost ethereal feather.

O The word used next to the attack button is "Dance", much like how the Pan says "Cook" and the Harisen fans say "Smack.

O It is said that it "Represents an evil heart."

O It is said to be based on Gurhal legends.

O It is a fire weapon.

http://www.pso-world.com/items/psu/1/1508/halp_serafi/

Anyways, it is most likely referencing Seraphs, which you can read about in this wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seraphim

In it, it mentions that they are related to fire, and speaks of the "Flaming Likeness of the Seraphim.", and talks of how they use their all-consuming fire to purify. However, Seraphs are also referred to as beings of pure light, one of such references being in the poem Rime of the Ancient Mariner, by Samuel Coleridge.

Obviously, Serafi is most likely a reference to this, but what about Halp? That is possibly the most curious part.

It is hard to determine it between the two most likely translations:
Half and Harp.

Harp would work because Angels like Seraphs are often portrayed as carrying harps.

However, since Halp Serafi is "half" of the Dagger of Serafi, this could also work too.

This is where I ask you:

Do you think Halp means Half, or Harp?

Personally, I think it means Harp.

my vote goes for half, since it's half of the dagger of serafi http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

The obvious solution is learning japanese in five minutes and checking the japenese description of the item.

Obviously.

I'm a second year japanese student, but I believe the description is the same on the Japanese servers. I'de give it a try, if you can find a link O:

If the description is the same, check the name. If it's half or harp, you have your answer. If it's halp, we have a problem.

If it is Half Seraph than no wonder they kept it in a loose Japanese translation why would you carry around half of something XD

I like the Harp of the Seraph idea too bad its not a harp. Plus its fire ever heard of a fiery harp player (if you have keep it to yourself its rhetorical fewl)

ROFL I love threads that think outside the box bonus points of win for this thread grats!

Woo bonus points of win!

I did notice, however, on a slightly different topic, that the two-handed version is called Dagger of Serafi, and not Daggers. I think the reason for this is actually a reference to PSO's daggers, in which a pair of them were called Dagger, Knife, Ripper, etc...

As the offical owner of the first recorded Halp Serafi I feel I can express my opinion http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

It should be noted that and angel who has "lost their wings on one side" is considered a fallen angel.

Each dagger has three wings half of what a Serafim would have.

Therefore it stand to reason the the Halp Serafi represents a fallen Seraphim and the Serafi Daggers represent a Seraphim.

(On a side note I find it kind of weird that me a Christian was the first to find and complete it, I mean seriously now I've got a cool weapon and I already apprecated the references! lol)

I think harp makes sence because, in the japanese language, the letters "R" and "L" can be swiched. Like Kyrara in the anime Inuyasha. It's spelled with "R"s, yet they say it with a "L". So it may just be a translation error.

Don't quote me on this, but I think Mewn or Espio or someone else who knows Japanese said it was "Harupu," whereas "harp" would be something like "Haapu."

If you think this is too deep for a video game, don't ever go into a Kingdom Hearts forum and ask what Sephiroth/Cloud's single angel/demon wing means. XD

Most thought-out character design EVAR.

On-topic: I think it'd be neat to see the OTHER half of the Daggers released, since one half is supposed to be good, and the other evil. Two sets of single daggers, and the completed Daggers of Serafi... so neat. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Obviously, the answer is .5 Pi. This is because halp is referring to 1/2 a radian, which is .5 Pi. Therefore, we must assume that it is a pumpkin pie, as we all know pumpkins are the most holy kind of pie. So, if it was a whole serafi, we should be expecting a large pumpkin pie as a weapon!

Lol, nice reasearch though!

I think someone at ST just threw some seraphi stuff ouf there just to make us discuss things and think they're trying to be deep. :wacky:

Maybe halp means... help. Like you're getting the help of the Serafi, in the form of the dagger.

I don't think there's a clear answer to this, most weapon names are pretty unintelligible.

You said it's fire and "represents an evil heart" - my guess then is that it actually means 'Hell'.

Mm, you're forgetting the existence of the legendary Key Lime Pie, which has so many calories that one slice has twice the daily recommended amount.

By the way, one-half radians is not equal to half of pie. Indeed, it is equal to 28.64788976 degrees, roughly.

Now that you mention it... it could be hell...

or it could be half, because the dagger is sprouting 3 wings, and seraphs have 6 wings... usually...

DAMN YOU SEGA!!!

Sonic Team goes this deep? Well maybe they should start fixing their game code and stop worrying about things like this! D: Although, it is kinda nice I have to say.

And everything is this thread makes sense too. O_o

My Halp seems like a more special item now. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif lol well it always was anyways. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Very interesting...as some people know, the Halp Serafi is also my favorite dagger by far. Because...you know...yeah....hurhur. I'll let you figure that one out.

Anyways, interesting concept about the name. Something to think about next time I whip mine out. Sure makes it that much more interesting to me.

Dance is the attack command, eh?

That makes me think of Ace Combat Six. "I know it's dangerous, but it's time to dance with the angels!"
