View Full Version : Shotguns....they need some upgrades

Well, i was thinking all the way back home from the university. Yes, i know we all love the shotguns on high levels, but still need something to make the perfect weapon.

I have been thinking, shotguns need 2 upgrades, some tiype of knockback, something like when you hit at 0
distance or hit a critical, push the enemy far away. I mean, come on is a shotgun, every game, even the earlier Quakes thay had a knockback.

And 2, a god bloody damn recharge sound. There is nothing more awesome that make the enemies fly away and hear that pure sound when you reload.

I think in AoI shotguns get some kind of flinch or knockback in their normal attacks.

There is just something I don't understand about the shotguns in this game. If this is such an advanced civilization, why are the shotguns pump-action?

To be honest, i was pretty dissapointed when i didint heard the sound when i first graved my shotgun on PSU.

why cant they get sounds, because tenora guns in the expansion have sounds, like the handgun and mechgun.

Just as i though, sorry but since i speak spanish i couldnt understanded well.

Umm, guys to all of ya. I forgot to say, that i wasnt speaking of an upgrade like more billets or more aceleration or more damage. I was only talking about the looks, i incist, grab any shooting game you have and select then shotgun. Get closer to the enemie and bang! If it dosnt explode like on Conkey: Bad Fur Day, or DOOM, or QUAKE, they fly all over the screen. Thats why i was talking about some extra knockback.

All guns have always flinched. They probably just adjusted it so it takes less damage to cause flinching on guns than it did before since flinching is based on how much damage you do relative to the total HP of the target. Hell, even melee will cause flinching on low level enemies because of that. Guns and techs have just always had a boosted flinch potential over melee as an attention grabber.

almost 2000 hours on my cast and i havent noticed any flinching on my guns http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

sometimes on rifles and mostly grenade launchers but no flinching on anything else.

i have noticed big flinching on low level monsters wiht guns though http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Shotgun at level 40 is 23% element -- 185/180% atp -- 70% ata -- SE 2 -- 5 bullets

Xbow at 40 is 18% element -- 155/150% atp -- 60% ata -- SE 3 -- 3 bullets


So shotgun gains some ground in AoI, they both have their individual uses though.

When used right, they're already really damaging. Couple that with AoI flinch, bam. Awesome.

To add onto that, crossbows have 3 shots and hit 3 enemies. Shotguns have 5 shots but can hit around 7-10 enemies if they're spread right.

Shotguns already do more straight-up damage than Crossbows do, it's just the mobility and SE of Crossbows that makes them a slightly better option at the moment, in most cases.

What you are seeing is the flinching all attacks do on Rank C missions or anything with similar enemy behavior like Bruce's B or the split rooms in Deadly Brilliance. When you go to B Rank or higher you suddenly notice that all that flinching goes away. The only thing that causes flinching now for normal attacks and bullets are the final hit of a standard melee combo and rifles/bows.

Man this event gave me what I've been lookin for.

A shotgun that doesnt look like a dense supersoaker.

Those shigga destas have made my freakin day they LOOK like a shotgun that needs the pump action kinda like the leopard print on the side of the gun too just kinda neat.

And people on the ex missions actually get pissed at me when I closerange blast some poor badira/ageeta/go vahra into oblivion while they wasted PP on an attack tech or PA.

All and all if they get any stronger as seems the case im gonna love puttin that shotty into some grass assassins mouth and blasting him so hard his arms fall off for my fighunner to use.

Shotguns are going to rock with flinching... it'll make it easier for hunters to get their job done when you can just stand back a bit and flinch the entire room.

shotguns are easily my favorite gun type. i've always appreciated the skill it takes to use them effectively as opposed to crossbows.

As the level cap goes up along with everyone's Base ATP, shotguns are going to get a lot more powerful then they are now.

Shotguns would need some kind of a knockback... for the user.
Might not help the dps (quite the opposite in fact) but it would make the reload animation worth something to have the character slightly moving back while reloading because of the recoil of the previous shot.
Having the character standing still like an idiot while pumping kinda annoys me.

Also if you get close enough to multi-target monsters you can potentially get a total of 10 hits (full 5 on each point). I regularly do this on Polavohra with my Caseal Guntecher. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif You just have to be in the right spot for it to work (which happens to be either of it's shoulders right beside it's head).
