AotI: Already available at your local Kmart?

Not only is the Kmart by my house (Concord, California) selling Mass Effect already, they already have copies of PSU:AOI on PS2, for sale. I was talking to the sales clerk, and he said that they will start selling the PC version on Wednesday (the 21st). But, that since his boss doesn't seem to care, he (the sales clerk) just puts new games out when they get there, instead of the manufacturer's release date. Obviously, I chose Mass Effect. It's a freaking awesome game. I figured i'd wait until the PC version goes on sale, since my PS2 isn't online capable anyway. Just thought i'd give people a heads up, so that they can go check their local Kmarts.

I haven't got my copy yet, but I assume that if online worked, it would only act like normal PSU until the 20th, when AOI goes live.

I'm pretty sure that there won't be, because it is a stand alone game.

No, but AotI is somewhat different. You have to "change" your account over to an AotI account, and an AotI account won't work with the normal client, and vice versa.

Well, in the case of the Xbox 360 version (the one that I have until PC AOI is released) you download the expansion, and use the original PSU disc. I'm pretty sure that you use the PS2 AOI disc to play that version, and I have no idea about the PC version, but I heard two different stories, the first story (at least for original PSU) is that you have to use the disc to play, and the second story i've heard, is that if you have a copy of the ISO saved to your hard drive, you can play the game, without using a disc.

Well, you don't eve need the PSU v1 disk to play PSU on PC. I lost my disk like... months ago. XD

Besides, AotI is a separate client altogether. You install AotI separate from PSU - all it gathers from it is your Extra Mode character, really.

I'd assume it would act like a different game, but we won't really know until next week when it comes out. Like I said in my first post, only the PS2 version is currently available at my local Kmart, and they won't be getting the PC version of the game until next wednesday (the 21st).

I might get the PS2 version, when I get my PS3.

My PS2 still works, but it doesn't have the online port (it's really old), on it.

I don't see a reason to buy another PS2 with online, when I can just buy a PS3. Otherwise, I would get the PS2 version right now, instead of waiting.

I don't think our K-Mart here even CARRIES PC games. *Sigh* I know our Wal-Mart stocked BOTH the PS2 and 360 versions of vanilla PSU, but not the PC, so both copies laughed at me while I ordered it online. Not a surprise it's out early at K-Mart since it's not a street dated title. Same goes for Mass Effect.

Info: (Game releases come in 2 types, street-dated and non street dated titles. Street dated titles usually arrive at the retailer a few days early and goes on sale on the release date. Non street-dated titles normally arrive at the distributor on the "release" date and then it goes out to retailers. That's why stores like Gamestop never have obscure games on the "release" date because that's the date when the distributor gets it and not Gamestop. Sometimes though retailers get non-street dated titles early and when that happens they can put it on the shelves whenever they get it since the game publisher didn't set a street date.)

I have yet to see some one trying to sell the game off ebay. : I am too lazy to try drive down to the the nearest one (which is pretty far as, as most have closed down in my area). Mass Effect is all over ebay while PSU is nowhere even with a google search. This is the only post I can find that says the street date was broken.

Well, as far as I know, it was only broken at this one store, and for the PS2 version. So, how many copies could they have possibly leaked? And, who knows... maybe one of the managers noticed the error? I don't know, all I know, is that if I find a game, that has gone on sale early, I don't put it on Ebay, especially since it will be out legit in half a week.

I just went to http://www.kmart.com and searched for the closest Kmart to me, and it actually turns out that there are 7 of them, in a 30 mile radius.

I never even knew...

The closest one to my house is about 10 miles a way, and has a pharmacy, which means it has the 20% off coupon. (The Concord one, is almost 18 miles away)

So, i'm going to go by there next week, and pick up PSU:AOI for PC, for 20% off.

Wow... Kmart is doing well in California, unless they haven't updated the site search recently.

Yeah, K-mart's been alive and doing ok here in So Cal, but they slowly go out of business. In about 6 years or so, I think I've seen or heard of only 2 kmarts going out of business in a radius of like 40 miles.

Well, the one in my hometown (Vallejo, Ca) has been out of business for over 5 years now. So, i'm kind of suprised that it's doing well enough to have 7 different stores, so close to each other. I'm very happy that the closest one has a pharmacy, that means that I can get the 20% off coupons, and get an 80gb PS3 for $100 off.

It served it's purpose, and since AOI comes out in only 4 or 5 days, it's not really big news anymore.

It's up to them, if they want to keep it open, I just wanted to inform people, so that, if they wanted to pick the game up for PS2, and try offline mode, then they could. If they lived near the Kmart that I mentioned.
