View Full Version : What to do? Acrofighter or Fortefighter

Here are my options:

Level up a cast and:

1. Make her acrofighter for the uber overall stats from that, + free damage from shadoogs

2. Make her fortefighter; she loses shadoog and dodges like a rock, but gets high atp and uses both spears and slicers

3. Delete her and make a human acrofighter

You can try making her both classes and mix it around.
But if you dont want to you should maybe try out acrofighter since we know how a fortefighter works personally and have little experience as acrofighters.

You're probably right. But I am unsure whether a cast would make that good of an acrofighter, statwise. In every other non tech situation they seem to be the superior choice, but the acrofighter seems to thrive on a huge evp bonus, and casts get the least evp.

She'll dodge like a rock as AF and wont be great with the Shadoogs either (since she's a cast)

I'd sayyyy stick with fF.

But do what ever you want, it all comes down to how you wanna play.

And that is what I am trying to decide: is simple damage output enough? If I want to play acrofighter to its fullest, perhaps a human would be best because of the evp and the tp?

This thread will help out a lot on your choice of race for acrofighter.

Not true. Regardless of class, Casts dodge around 10% less than Newmans just because of the way EVP is set up. If a Newman blocks around 55% of the attacks, then the equivalent Cast will get an easy 49%. And then they make up that EVP lack in higher HP and DFP. EVP isn't some magical broken stat in favor of Newmans like MST is (which really just balances the low HP).

The Shadoog disadvantage just means less damage with your weakest weapon, which can be easily made up by getting your skills to 21+ and hitting more than 1 enemy with each attack as well as a mastery of the new (to the US) Just Attack system.

So really, it's more a matter of preference than anything else. Don't forget that in AoI, fF has around 20% more base ATP than anyone else, so no other class will be able to keep up with that regardless. AF, on the other hand, has higher survivability due to the high HP, DFP, and EVP combination as well as a melee speed bonus and more ranged options at the cost of heavy weapon and class specific weapon access.

The real trade offs between going back to make a human are higher survivability and more Shadoog damage. So, if you really want to play for the bonus or if you want to survive an extra hit or 2, make a human. Otherwise, I wouldn't advise it.

The difference wont be as insane as you think it is. Cast will evade only a little less then a Human, and while true your Shadoog damage will be lower,it's not exactly a powerhouse weapon. Really just look at it this way,do you want to use SUV? If so,just make the Cast.

As for AcroFighter/ForteFighter, I wouldn't really compare them. AcroFighter has a speed bonus, a selection of quick weapons, and good range options. ForteFighter has mostly slow, powerful weapons, and at range they'll likely be stuck using a slicer for everything, since handguns are pretty bad generally. I think between them the only S rank weapons they even share are Saber and Claw, just ask yourself which weapons you wanna be using.

I don't know, if you're worried about stats and ATP, I think a Beast would be a better choice for AF. They just beat out CASTs in the stats important for AF. If you're looking for a class that makes the most of the AF's stats and be well-rounded, Human would be best with Newman as #2. If you just don't care and you're into robots, make a CAST.

It’s pretty simple. AF isn’t any different from any other hunter class besides humans sucking less due to a heavier bonus than normal and Newmans sucking more due to the lack of one. In terms of output, Beasts have the most power, Casts have the second highest but become the highest when the enemy has high EVP or the weapon has low ATA, humans come slightly below Casts but are closer than usual due to the bonus, and Newmans are your obvious last place, which looks even weaker than usual due to the human bonus. In terms of survivability, the human bonus gives them first place and Beasts are a close second, with Cast jumping from first to third depending on how much damage the enemies are dealing (first if damage is low, third if damage is high) and Newmans in a clear fourth. As for tech damage, if the tech deals a lot Beast > Cast > human > Newman and if the tech deals a little, Newman > human > Beast > Cast.

So if you want pure damage, Beast. If you want pure survivability/moderate Shadoog damage, play human. If you want mid-range output and survivability that both situationally becomes the highest and/or SUV access, play Cast. If you’re still in love with the idea of Just Counters and want a little more Shadoog damage than human, play Newman.

Go Beast. They are stronger. Unless you wish to stay as a CAST.

It's also a matter of aesthetics.

Fleshies get more clothing and style options than Casts, though caseals do get the nifty Plugsuit/Zero Suit.

So perhaps casts aren't that bad off as I thought they would be, but humans seem to be the most well rounded, and have a better aesthetic. I made the mistake of buying into the idea that atp was the One True Stat.

I'd argue there's no race and class combination that's good enough for you to create a new character over. Use whatever you've already leveled because the differences are small enough for anyone who pays attention not to care.

Or just go for aesthetics, like you said.

Acrofighter is a lot simpler to 'get going'. Fortefighter requires a lot of time levelling PAs, getting PA frags (99 for jabroga, for example), and so forth.

If you want to use big weapons, go fortefighter. If you want to use single handed weapons, go acrofighter.
If you prefer metal skirts, go caseal. If you prefer clubbing outfits, go human.

If other words, do caseal fortefighter and never look back.

While some of my characters are more club looking, this one is gonna be more refined. Sort of a mix between Ayanami Rei, Helga from the moving comic, and Asellus from Saga Frontier, with the Admiral outfit:

lol.
I am considering both as well and am in the same pool as you. Seeing the big numbers, faster pp regen, cheaper PAs, and anga jabroga launching seems like lots of fun. Of course, the 10*+ axes are bulky and ugly, swords are over simplified (huge cutter = 7* sword, really), spears don't look all that interesting (the 10* yohmei is an exception - look it up http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif It's a giant lance), and S rank slicers on acrofighters are just plain cool.

But the reason I quit Guntecher is cause pelloting enemies for 250 damage X3 with the crosbow was simply boring. The acrofighter and slicers may prove to be, over time, less fulfilling and feel more 'pew pew' rather than 'bam bam!' (even despite slicer's store-bought PA damage).

But the insane evasion and crap on acrofighter could prove to be fun, along with their speed boost.

Be both? You can play every class in AoI with the PA disk option.

Well, if you get bored of Slicers, you can always just use something else, like Claws, Sabers, or Daggers. The Slicer will be ONE of my weapons, but they won't be my ONLY weapon as an Acrofighter.

This is one of the only exceptions I've seen, and it's a one-piece set anyway. It's very difficult not to make a human character not look like a cluber, just like it's very difficult not to make a male cast not look like a gundam.

I'm definitely gonna get that for my female newman whenever I'm bored of having her run around half-naked or wearing skimpy outfits as I always have her wear.

No, not out yet. Probably won't be for a while, either.
All I know is that it's a replica of [spoiler-box]Laia's "big shot" outfit..[/spoiler-box]

Figures. =/ None of the classy female clothing (other than what I wear in my librarian outfit) ever comes out soon. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Guess I'll be stuck with my dress and my librarian outfit for a while, I guess. At least I can get it in orange in AotI. :|

Fortefighters with A-rank slicers will do more damage with them than Acrofighters with S-rank slicers, but A-rank slicers are kinda ugly.

You're right, just as apparently A rank crossbows are more useful to fortegunners than S rank crossbows are to guntechers.

But as I'm seeing it, acrofighter is an evp tank, damage isn't the priority, but good damage + great survivability makes them uber.

HUcaseals are such a joy to play as. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif Well, I'd let it be between combat and range versus pure combat and which weapons you'd like to use most. That's helped me the most in deciding which class(es) I want to try.

If you like small weapons and hitting fast (and for good damage with that 137%-ish atp modifier), go with acrofighter.
If you like medium/large weapons and hitting for big damage (with that 167%-ish atp modifier), go with fortefighter.
