This happens at work with frightening regularity:

*ring*

Me: Hello?
Caller: ...Who am I speaking to?
Me: To whom do you want to speak?
Caller: Who am I speaking to?!
Me: Sir, to whom do you want to speak?
Caller: .......[James].
Me: Please hold a moment while I transfer you.

OK, so our phone system has glitches now and then, and sometimes a call that was intended for the command or service department somehow winds up in the computer office. It's no big deal, usually the guy explains something about his order and we transfer him to the right department without a trouble.

Some, however, seem to completely lose track of the world as soon as they realize they are not exactly where they were wanting to be.

Asking me who I am isn't going to solve a damn thing. I can name myself all I want, it won't help you in the slighest. Those who ask me this question often speak with the urgency of an FBI agent about to give away life-or-death sensitive information and just realized he dialed Al Queda by mistake. I don't understand why the hell they are asking the question in the first place.

I get calls like that at home. On the second time that ask for my name, they get introduced to my best friend hang-up.
