View Full Version : Why should I be happy for buying AotI?

I'm looking for encouragement here, and I'm very confused...

I was excited by the prospect of playing through the Episode 2 missions with AotI with a more fleshed out story and better presentation... but assides from the nice FMV introducing the female lead, the story is presented the same way as it was online... So why did I pay $45 for this?

I read that you don't need the original game because it was included, but it doesn't give you access to the offline mode of Episode 1 anymore... also, why was it another 4 gig install if I'm gonna play in the same environments and against the same enemies?

What am I missing here??

Someone please tell me what the major hook is for the offline portion of the expansion and why this is taking up so much more of my HDD?? Please outline everything as I haven't been following this for some time.

I will very likely go back online after this, but is that truely the only new value? I'm seeing new abilities and such... but I'm looking for new presentation. Are there new areas? Enemies? etc??? Besides online?

^ I do like the sound of THAT... http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

So are there ANY new realtime cutscenes? Are there at least pleantiful new FMV's? On an episode by episode basis by chance??

Well you asked why it had to re-save all the same stuff... It was made so it can be stand alone... You do not need the original anymore... If you really want the space you can just delete PSU v1 from your compy...

Your problem lies with the fact that you bought AOI for it's offline mode. AOI wasn't exactly presented to be leaps and bounds ahead of v1, and look back at the v1 storyline...

Well thanks... I was hoping for more as I really enjoyed the story of Ep1 and was looking forward to a continuation of the production style...

So, what is the bulk of the new content which takes up the 4 gigs? Are there a lot of new areas online at least which have new textures/enemies/etc?

Theres a lot in terms of new missions, enemies, skills, bosses.. clothing, hair, aesthetics.. items, decor, etc.. Ep2 didn't change much, no, but that wasn't really suppose to change a lot anyway. Most of the new content is for Network Mode only.. sorry. Though there is also the little matter of Episode 3.. which is going to be released online soon enough. (And it sounds much better done than Episode 2 was.)

the absurd part is the 360 version was 20 bucks, while the other version was 40. You're paying more because you don't need the original, and for the offline stuff. But I have the original, and don't care about the offline stuff, why can't I pay 20 bucks for it too?

So instead, I'll either wait for it to drop in price, or get it for free lol

I just finished the first story chapter and unlocked some of the new free missions. I went through one of the ones with new content. VERY NICE! Loved the new surroundings, new music, and best of all, the PSO enemies!

I'm happy with my purchase now. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif And I'm becoming more and more tempted to jump back online. I don't wanna do it till I finish all the Ep3 missions... however... But we'll see http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

So one more question. In a screenshot released shortly before the game release, I saw what looked very much like a Mag. What's the story? Are there new major features like that?

U should be happy for AOTI cause i found 11 S rank boards in 5 days compared to 2 S ranks in 3 months...

You should be happy with AoI because you made the decision to buy it and shouldn't second guess yourself or you'll live a miserable life.

I actually am enjoying AoI, but that said I'm on the xbox... I don't get any offline mode perks... then again, I can only sneak on for a few minutes at a time to synth stuff, waste my coin at the casino, then go put my synthed stuff in my shop. I haven't even gotten to play all the new areas, and I'm STILL having fun!

There are Teching Mags and Shooting Mags - both of them right-handed weapons. The Tech mag is a godsend; lets you use melee weapons AND have support spells handy. the shooting mag... well, it's not that cool. It automatically shoots out a few bullets every 5-15 seconds, and can inflict an SE fairly reliably, but... I'm not so enamoured of it yet.

imfanboy, you're incorrect about the ranged mags. My 7* A rank shoots 3 bullets every 3 seconds in burst, so every 3 seconds it shoots 3 bullets quickly. This damage adds up very nicely and, since you can use weapons while the mag is shooting, your DPS goes through the roof. Not to mention it feels like your melee weapons are causing status effects cause your mag is shooting the enemies as you attack and so forth. It's a godsend. I love them.
The higher rank ones you get, the better they perform. C ranks get 1 bullet, B ranks get 2 bullets, and A ranks get 3 bullets. The higher rank you get, the quicker they shoot them as well.
The S ranks shoot laser beams, which you either love or hate. They don't shoot three in burst succession like the A rank shadoogs, but they do shoot more often (I think around a shot per second and a half-ish.)
They're awkward, though, because, since they shoot at a downwards angle (being above you), the laser won't really penetrate many enemies. It's good in situations where the monsters are grouped up, though.

Good stuff. Do the mags come in many various looks and such? Will they be a large part of having a unique/rare look to your character? I'm gonna try to fly through the story missions and likely jump online again...

I can't seem to stop spending money on this game even though I can't convince myself i liked it...

Started by buying pc version and a xbox controller for it... then baught it for ps2 with a bluetooth kb to use on my HDTV and PS3... but the game is so hard on the eyes it's unplayable... plus the KB didn't work with it... when I first went online I paid for a 6 month membership though I only played for less than one... then I baught AotI after already playing through some of the EP2 missions online and got the same experience... so I could have gone through them in one month online and spent less money.

So why stop now? lol

C to B ranks look the same, just diff colors. A ranks Look the same, but have different colors (white, black, blue). Tech-mags also have different manufacturers, so you see a lot of different looking ones. Ranged mags only have 1 manufacturer.
S rank 10*, 11*, 12* etc are all unique looking.
