View Full Version : AotI-PC/PS2: Why are whips so expensive?

KyEmo

The cheapest 8* whip on Pc/Ps2 is 110k and a 12% I think. Thats the price of the [B] itself.

But why are people charging insane amounts? 140k for a 14%, 200k for a 16%, 500k for a 20%. Why so much?

Xaeris
Nov 25, 2007, 08:41 PM
Because, someone, somewhere, is buying them for that price. Ideally, everyone would list prices consistent with what should have been the proper growth of the game's economy, but I can't really hold it against a shopkeeper if he lists a higher price that some tool is willing pay.

I sell mine like this:

10% = 55k
12-18% = 65k
20-28% = 95k
30-38% = 295k

is pc/ps2 always more expensive than 360? My pm always makes stuff with 30+ %, but I always just sell it for whatever the going rate is for the item, I don't figure in extra for %... is that typical?

Broodstar1337
Nov 25, 2007, 10:07 PM
Because you can't buy it in an NPC shop so that's reason enough for players to operate their shops as if they're complete idiots.

Um... PC/PS2 stuff IS always more than 360, because of the haxeta problem we had.

Also, yes, higher % weapons are a bit rarer, and more powerful, so they do sell for a bit more. Some people, however, crank prices up too much for the %.

Finding stuff for board price is a pretty good deal, I'd say. Saves you on materials, for the most part. Pay these monies.

8* weapons in shops are 165k. Anything less than that should be considered a good deal.

People gotta make a profit, too.

Hell, the statistical break-even point for 8* weaponry (if you're buying everything from the NPCs) is a few hundred higher than 165k, so *shrug*

Because NPC shops are way overpriced and we need to be lower than that.If its an 8* with under 20% i wouldnt pay more than 100k.

And, oh, the lack of playerbase. We can barely push 5* when the 360 players have several universes filled and oh god japan pretty much loves the game or something. Someone post that universe list again.

I dont have the list but i can tell you yesterday i was on.And unis 1-3 were completely full and numerous others had one full star with every other one having a partial star. When i added it up it came to at least 4,500 people on at once on 360 side.I had to run in uni 5 cause 1,2,and 3 were damn near impossible to get into.

Lolwut. You know how easy it is to make a few hundred k with the increased meseta drops now? They're A-rank weapons, top of the line for some classes, let's not just give them away. You want the best stuff, earn it.

And it's what, 29%? I don't expect to pay 110k for a 12%.

Speaking of insane prices, the first day someone was selling the 7* whips at 200k each. Trying to scam people http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

See if you can get them by failing synths. It's seriously the only way I get catilium right now.

Remedy

I don't think anyone's gotten a gemstone from a failed synthesis yet, as far as I know. We should make a thread in GG+W and compile together our gatherings from failed synths.

Edit: And even if you can, it's still not a very efficient way to get 165 Diads. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

They're new. Once people get their heads out of their asses about the price and supply increases and/or demand decreases, the prices will start becoming sane again. If you want them to sell fast simply undercut the current market. It'll help drive the prices down.

Oh, just a note from the item FAQ. I don't know if it still carries, but it seems about right. I'll double-check it in a bit.

8* weapons are 101,667 meseta to synth apiece; an entire board costs 305,001. Because it comes out to a 61% chance, that means 39% of that is wasted - tack another 118,950 to the cost of an 8* board. 423,951 is the full cost of an 8* board - note, too, that at this point, the failure cost outweighs the cost of an actual synthing of the weapon!
For the sake of this lets ignore the % rate of success as quoted.

Literally, if i don't fail 3 synths, despite whatever % they are i'd be stupid to sell an 8* board for anything less than 150k: and that would only give me a very marginal profit. Considering that failing costs me 110k, If i fail just once i'm out 260k, if the theoretical weapon would have sold.

There's a line between loss and profit and it's not called 'sale'.

9* weapons are a bit more expensive.

9* weapons are 146.5k to synth raw - 439.5k for the complete board cost. Because it only has a 55% success rate, 45% is wasted - 197,775 must be accounted for. 637,275 can be called the 'total' cost.
I'd sell these weapons for, at the LEAST, 200k, no matter the %.

At this rate synthing is more like gambling, you just have to hope you get a high % weapon and sell it for millions to get back all the money you wasted.

And now i will doublecheck the material and such costs.

Edit: Hell lemme add in my own personal thoughts on this.

Synthing striking weapons SUCKS. It's almost 10000% safer to go synth ranged and magic stuff, simply because you don't have to worry about %s with those. Put them at a good price point and they'll almost always sell.

Melee weapons you have to worry and cry about the %s. Get a low % and it's almost the same as failing. But get a high % and it's pretty much going to sell if priced right. 30+ is the goal, though 20+ works fine. 50% and you pretty much can sell it at millions with some profit.

Haxeta hardly contributes to this problem, it was more of a jump-start. The REAL problem is the lack of playerbase. Just an example:

Say we have 1000 people always playing, guaranteed. split among them is 1b fiesta. You're not going to see items for millions because that kind of money isn't readily available. Haxeta comes in, and suddenly that 1k people have 10b fiesta. Now prices jump up a bit, but now people are making a profit. The haxeta stops coming in, but the people still have it. With that base of money, they now can make items and sell them at a PROFIT, with only some of it going into the ether that is the NPCs.

But you can't pull the same thing on a server with say, 50k people on it. spread among them would be, say, 100b fiesta. Haxeta could come in, but it wouldn't dent such a huge playerbase. Why? Among them they're FINDING items, boards, etc at a far greater rate than the 1k server. A lot of the costs of synthing are almost cut in half. They're making a profit way before the 1k servers.

This is how it is when we compare the ps2/pc and 360 servers, and even the japanese ones. S rank made weapons are going for just 1.5m in japan/360, but we see 11m here. It's simply because the market isn't flooded at all.

The expansion is helping, but only for the new items and 1up stuff really. Things ARE becoming better, just slowly.
