View Full Version : room decoration money scam

Biollante
Nov 26, 2007, 05:06 PM
Hey, I'm on the 360 server...doubt that matters but, i went to a room this kid said he had a nice sale going on and told me to check out one of his cool new room decorations. it was like this little lava lamp vending machine. it told me if i was holding any extra monomates or things like that I would not recieve anything. so i used it and then my 19mil meseta was gone... anybody have anything else on this? thanks for any info or help.

EDIT: Removed offensive language.

ITS RUNNING RAMPANT EVERYWHERE!!!

im on ps2/pc ands got 6 mails warning me about these machine decos.(ppl losing 20 mil a clip) unsure about whether there is a way to get money back but i would mail sega tech support asap with your info and the persons info and see what happens. its a scam plain and simple in my eyes.

Lol, the Photon Gacha.

Yea, you can't tell how much money you are putting in when you use it, so either don't bother or don't try it with more than 10k on your character.

Biollante

Well, hopefully they at least fix it ASAP, maybe disable the deco immediately until they fix it...

HFlowen
Nov 26, 2007, 05:15 PM
From what I know, there was a problem with the translation and the cost per try doesn't fit in the information box, which is why you can't see it. It shouldn't be a difficult fix if enough people get Sega's attention about it.

Except it is a rather stupid idea to not display how much meseta it costs to use considering these things are the result, and are definitly not good for the game, economy, player base, whatever. Its something ST needs to fix and fix fast.

Biollante
Nov 26, 2007, 05:25 PM
how the hell is that my fault?! why don't they just come out with room decos that take all your weapons without asking you first too? saying that me using someone else's room deco and then getting robbed is my fault is kinda retarted... it's a room deco for cryin' out loud.

Randomness
Nov 26, 2007, 05:28 PM
Its not your fault. Also, since he seemed to know what would happen, and encouraged you to use it, you should be able to argue that you were actively scammed. Additionally, because its the first room deco to do anything like that, in fact, you could say that one wouldn't ever expect a room deco to be ABLE to do that, you had no way to suspect what would happen.

All in all, you have a decent case, if they choose to do something about this.

the point is this. whether ppl know it and are scamming or if its a glitch is just inmaterial at this point. the point is u had money, something happened that wasn't your fault and possibly segas due to the glitch of not knowing the cost of its use.
if enough ppl complain sega will prolly review the logs and reimburse you to what u lost. if you havent hacked and are a clean player u have nothing to worry about and i suggest doing as previously stated and submit a complaint to tech support.
if there are ppl failing 99% synths (and they are)and getting compensated by sega (and they did I know 2 ppl personally) you can get your money back lol.
and worse case scenario it doesnt hurt to try http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

So, does it take your money just by using it, or does it go to another screen instructing you what it does? I need to check one of these out in someone's room.

BTW, the kid must've looked how much meseta you had on you and adjusted the price to that amount. What a douche. If you want, PM me his shop name and I'll go fuck with him.

Randomness
Nov 26, 2007, 05:42 PM
It pops up a screen detailing it, but japanese text takes up much less space and all... so the english overflows from the box, and the whole price bit isnt visible.

JAFO22000
Nov 26, 2007, 05:45 PM
Ah, so it shows what is in there, but nowhere does it state that the machine costs meseta to "use"? That's jacked and definately a scam. That kid knows what he is doing.

I heard some guy is sitting in his room with the photon gacha. When you come in, he adjusts the price to however much money you have. If you don't know anything about it, it just looks like a cool new AOI toy, but boy are you wrong.... Last I heard, he'd made over 130 million...

syncmaster712
Nov 26, 2007, 06:39 PM
it is not a scam he did not alter the decoration other then changing the price and adding stuff if you were trading and he quickly took away the item and replaced it with something else then u cna consider that a scam but you tried the machine at your own risk u didnt have to listen to the owner of the shop but you chose to

syncmaster712
Nov 26, 2007, 06:43 PM
why would i like this decoration if ive gotten ripped off by it but i only lost 15k and i told my friends not to listen to anyone if they told you to try a machine, i agree it is wrong lieing and tricking people into using cause ive gotten that happened to me have u? but i chose to listen and it was partly my fault so i dealt with it

syncmaster712
Nov 26, 2007, 06:44 PM
yo strongfiend i know he was telling people to watch out about it but it is partly his fault no matter how many times you tell yourself its not

scam –noun 1. a confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, esp. for making a quick profit; swindle.

What part of that is not a 'scam'? The owner of the shop is knowingly exploiting a broken decoration, giving the impression that the machine is some sort of amusing device, and the machine itself currently does not tell you that it charges money.

It's true that the OP fell for the scam, if you want to argue that, then fine. But it's still a bug in the game that needs to be fixed, and other people need to be aware of this so that they don't get ripped off as well.

The definition of scam is to obtain by trickery or deceit. It's obvious that this kid knew what he was doing and blantantly told this guy to use his machine without disclosing what it did, probably even lying about it. I mean, before the expansion, there was never a deco that cost meseta to use. Now the fact that the price was set at 19 million proves that it was a scam (unless he had a superbad item in there, which is VERY doubtful). If he was a legit player, he would've explained what the machine does. The deco owner was not up front with the guest in his room, even encouraging him to "check it out". That is a scam. This kid found out that the price doesn't show up and immediately figured out how to use it to his advantage.

syncmaster712
Nov 26, 2007, 06:50 PM
ok yes i agree that its a bug and needs to be fixed and if you dont know what the hell something is then why do you try it, i tried it cause my friend tricked me for such a small amount of 15k meseta but i really dont care i only carry about 100k max on me if i go anywhere and i was carrying 20k on me at that time, wow u looked it up ''your smart''

Here's a question back at you - why wouldn't you? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Actually back when hackers were running rampant, the only way they could steal your money is if you left it in storage or in your common box - anything on your character was safe. So it was smarter to carry around your money with you.

Besides being scammed or accidentally buying something in a shop, there's really no other way to lose money (you don't lose anything for dying).

I dont hold that much on me because I know for a fact if I see that money in my pocket, Ill be spending it like crazy.
The other fact is, I know you dont lose money when you die, but because you drop your money when you died on Dreamcast, and you lose your money when you died on Gamecube, its always been ahabit of mine to keep my money in my PM/Alt/Common Box

Toward the end of PSO, didn't they eliminate that though? I honestly can't clearly recall the time when you dropped all your money anymore. It is a valid reason though, so I can understand it better. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I don't mind the "you shouldn't have to" comment, but the inconvenience part is pretty untrue. You really don't need to carry more than even 100k to complete missions and restock on items, unless you die a lot and need Scapes. Also, with the new shop search system you can just shop search, see how much you'll be spending, get that much, and go, no hassle there.

As for this deco: I'd never dream of using one anyways, even if it had items I wanted, my luck sucks and I don't really like to test it by giving other people my money.

AnamanaAU

Honestly, if it's not a player shop, you shouldn't be putting your money into it. It's your own fault out of stupidity.

Kairi_Li
Nov 28, 2007, 06:57 AM
I wouldn't call it complete stupidity, more like gulliuble and a bit too trusting, which is not always a bad thing cause you gotta trust someone. Still, its best to be cautious to other people who are pushy at asking you to do something... Though, everyone is excited about interactive decors that we don't think too much before playing with a decor. Its still mostly the scammer's fault.

I personally think it's wrong to even have that decor up. I mean they know that it's not functioning properly and they still put it up? That's just messed up. Perople in this game mess with things because most of them are amusing and fun. Also, you should always be aware of the fact that things are scams in this game. It's a game and it's bound to have glitches, especially in translations. So yes, it is the person who put it up's fault but it is also the person who trusted the first person's fault in a way.

Wow.. that is certainly a crazy twist to the story. Glad to hear that somebody out there has a conscience and chose to do the right thing.
