View Full Version : GC: Sega employees

People have been telling me that they think someone they know is a Sega employee... I tell them it's more than likely a fake. To combat this problem, I want to say how to detect real ones from fake ones. It's really simple.
Real Sega employees have a guild card number that starts with either 1400 (Japanese) or 3400 (American). Any other 4 digits is a fake.

Somebody give me a friggin brake! I feel so sorry for the mods that have to sift through this bullshit. And I feel sorry for myself actually taking the time to post this.

As taken from the official forum rules:
5. Respect EVERYBODY in the forum. Everyone's equal here. This forum isn't just for one group or individual. Flaming will not be tolerated. You flame, you get banned. Racist remarks or ethnocentrism will result in banning. So, don't.
I don't even think the majority of you people even know what Barubary does, let alone have the right to say some of the things you have about him.
No hacking is taking place to find out a real Sega employee to a faker who wants to be recognized as one. Baru just told you how to clarify the difference. You don't have to hack, all you need is their guild card number. Wasn't that hard to understand, right?

that was somewhat of my original remark towards Chrono. I think? I can't think straight today. But I don't find barubary harming the servers in anyway and by his post he was trying to give us USEFUL information, however others decided to slap him in the face =. I mean i know many people hate barubary, but i have a respect for him and what he does.
I'm pretty sure he isn't ruining our PSO, however He did release codes for the last PSO, but that was for enhancing his own fun and for others to use. The people using the codes ILLEGALY changing game data, and they are the faulty ones "ruining" our game.(that was focused towards the previous PSO versions)
I was disapointed with it as well, but why hold someone responsible who was "just doing their job"? That's like blaming a 45 year old reasercher who "KNows" ciggaretts are bad for you for killing your pal who died from lung disease. All he was doing was making a living. if yuo've ever seen the movie "The Insider" you'd understand what I'm talking about. I don't mean to offend anyone, i'm just trying to defend Baru because people make bad remarks of him all the time, when he really is a nice guy to play with and fun (when he isn't whipping out his ultimate rares)
As for the GC edition, any idiot with basic knowledge of the internet could find the glitch of duping on the gamecube, so i'm pretty sure that voids baru of any fault here as well.

Besides since when was reverse engineering by packet sniffing illegal? I'm pretty sure you're allowed to know what is coming in and out of your own computer/console http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif
Also if what he was doing was illegal don't you think they would have done something by now?

Ok, for one, some people need to learn tolerance. Barubary made this post to dispel rumors about all the Sega employee crap, and you respond by insulting him. Seriously, you have insulted him enough. For the umpteenth time, we KNOW you do not approve of what he does, but that does not mean you need to f-ing whine about it every time he posts. Essentially, I consider this kind of shyt to be spamming, as I see you complaining more than once in the same thread, saying the same thing each time, but reworded.
Second, this actually can dispel many rumors as I am certain some idiots claiming to be Sega employees have given out their guild cards, being the idiots that they are.
Finally, I am not saying I approve of cheating. In fact, I definitely do not, and I do not enjoy it, and that is why I will be getting XBox PSO, as there are no cheat discs out for it at this time. The only difference is I know the difference between voicing my opinion and just flat out whining.

Of course that stuff is not illegal, but if I remember correctly, Mr.B had to decompile the Dreamcast executable to find the algorithm. This, again, is not wrong. The only point in which I say we start running into problems is when people (or a person) starts using that knowledge to connect to the servers using a device other than the one that they were originally intended for. I guess that could be considered using "unauthorized code" on the servers, but it seems like a grey area to me, and I'm sure that someone in particular would like to argue that it's perfectly ok. I'm not saying that's what is going on here, he's probably just looking at decrypted packet data, but there's so much potential here for him to do something bad.

That is complete bullshyt. I'm pretty sure it is against the law to connect to anyone's server the wrong way (an example...would be PSO), regardless of whether its good intentions or bad. That's like saying, "Oh I hacked into the FBI coputers! And I didn't do anything!" But then they come to your doors the next day and arrest your arse. While this site may not support cheating and duping, it seems alot like it supports hacking into servers for own personal use.

There is no hacking involved, however. According to the example you're using, hacking is unwanted entry. That is not involved in this case. So, yes, hacking into the FBI's computers when your presence is unwanted is an invasion of private intellectual property, but connecting to a videogame server when you are more than welcome is not illegal at all.

With the DMCA as law, if one connects to a server in a non-prescribed manner, there could be sufficient legal ground to bring one to court if Sega detects the non-prescribed entry. Reverse engineering of the software or data packet sniffing is still legal at the moment.
There is also a concept of social engineering. There is nothing prevent a very charismatic person from talking to a Sega employee and getting some information. Now, if Guild Number classiciation is considered confidential information, then the employee who gave it out is in trouble as much as the person who received it.
What one does with information is as important as getting the information in the first place. You may be able to reverse engineer something, but you may not be able to share your discoveries with others openly.

I think you missed something. Baru is (and I have a good feeling this is correct) getting this data by intercepting packets sent to the GameCube and decrypting them. He's still connecting to the servers with a GameCube if this is the case, so no damage is done in this situation.

Indeed. I agree with everything written therein. I'd like to throw in a bit of speculation, too. Considering that PSO's Hunter's License terms do not include a clause restricting the condition of your PSO software instance upon connection, I do not believe Sega could pursue a lawsuit, if they so desired to. Certainly, they could try -- litigation is the "in" thing these days -- but, if the defendant had competent lawyers, I do not believe they would have a case. They do not have any kind of legally recorded regulation in place which forbids using modified PSO software.
Also, as plenty of recently held court cases have proven, the system seems to be in favor of those who modify items they purchase for their own amusement, be those items videogames, movies, programs or the like. Once someone has purchased something, it is of course theirs; if they are not "pirating" the item, they are not harming the manufacturer of the product involved, and thus are fine. It has become their property, and is theirs to do with what they wish, so long as it does not harm another.

second of all, the only reason anyone should care about the fact that sega 'patrols' the servers is if they are a) concerned about updates to their pay to play game, and b) if they violate the user agreement.

Step off of Baru's jock. You all should be happy that I don't posess l337 H4xx0r Skillz. Else I would bust into your bank account and use your hard earned money to purchase refugee Kangaroos, and sell your first born on http://www.BlackMarketBabies.com.

One question,if there was Sega moderators or game masters. Why not SOA told us about them eons ago. They could've solve some of the problems with the hackers!
They must be lazy or something. Either that or they're trying to keep a low profile, but I wouldn't know.
that is if they exist... which is still under investigation... i think... is anybody investigating?

This thread has gone from Baru simply explaining how to tell whether or not a player is a sega employee by reading there guild card information, to a thread discussing the legallities of hacking/packet sniffing/dialing up to sega's servers.
Give us all a break here people and stick to the topic at hand - finding out who is / is not a Sega employee playing PSO.
I realize that there are a number of people posting that are sticking to the topic, I simply don't have the time to name names.
Go thread police! Woooooooooooooooo!

What am I doing here?! I'm stealing Sega's top secret game info so I can pass them off as my own..muaahahhahaa, first I forcefully made them put Phantasy Star Online episode 1&2 on the gamecube, but didn't release a keyboard so I could confuse people and make them mad at Sega because there wasn't one. And now I am going to take over Skies of Arcadia, just like I did with Evolution! Muahahahahah
