AotI: Question about Motherbrain boss

I heard mention about a boss in the forums named Motherbrain, and I was just wondering if anybody knows whether or not it's supposed to be similar to Motherbrain from Phantasy Star 2 either by appearence and/or backround story.

Yeah, kind of. It's allegedly the main computer for the AMF, but Howzer and friends have infected it with the SEED virus, so it's gone nuts.

The actual battle is a reskin of Dulk form 1.

sadly i think it is alike in name alone (tho the plot so far could indicate a PS2 style storyline), mother (not brain but still super intelligent AI, that controls all) was also in PSO for those who had plus and/or played the online sue and kireek story.

The mission description for Electronic Brain says that Motherbrain is responsible for the CASTs who have gone out-of-control. (Though the English description doesn't specify directly, the Japanese description clarifies that she exhibits control only over AMF-employed CASTs.) Of course, as Ffuzzy said, Howzer and Helga are responsible for her being in her current state. Now, I (unfortunately) haven't played much of Phantasy Star II, so if there are any connections, I'll have to let someone else piece them together.

to me mother brain looks like the profound darkness fused on top of dulk falkis. the music in the battle rocks too. it sounds like it could be a remixed version of old ps music. i cant no for sure but it has that 16 bit techno feel.

The boss theme is definitely a remix of the Phantasy Star 2 version. You only hear this for a bit, but the homage is clearly there. Made me smile.

Well if the music is a remix from Phantasy Star 2 and with what the boss is, I can certainly assume that at the very least Sega had the original Motherbrain in mind when creating this boss and that it was probably created to be nostalgic for those who have played the game.

Gonna have to cut this for PS2 spoilers.

PSU's Mother Brain seems to be based on the same concept. While PS2's was responsible for all control systems in Algol, PSU's is responsible for control over the AMF. There are some visual similaries, but PSU's Mother Brain appears much less ethereal than PS2's. In PS2 you feel like you're fighting a program, in PSU it is a physical robotic system.

It's very clear Sega had PS2 in mind, and if you notice, Sega's been referencing the PS series all along. In PSU Ep. 1 you have a clearly defined villian trying to terrorize everything, much like Alis fighting the tyranny of Lassic/Lashiec. In PSU Ep. 2, tragedy strikes when the Guardian's Colony crashes to Parum and the entire episode ends on a somber note, similar to Gaira destroying Palma in PS2, and ending with a very bleak struggle against hundreds of thousands of Earthlings. And now in the new PSU Ep. 3, we have a storyline where your decisions influence the outcome, like the concept of PS3. As you can see, Sega's pretty big on nostalgia XD

Actually it’s a very interesting boss battle, u find futuristic battle suits that have a large missile/charged laser beam. Then you have to shoot the glass protecting it and shoot its eye with the laser, all this while staying above acid and dodging missiles.

The weird thing is, you can turn into a ball and lay mines, weird.

After doing some research on it, I noticed that the two games PS 2 and Metroid were released in such a close time period that neither copied the other. The fact that they both have a boss named "Mother Brain" is strangely complete coincidence.

It's nice to see gunners haven't been completely left behind. If I get one, I can make the switch to GT pretty easily...but yea, fGs are all but forgotten by ST.
