Hey,

I personally use the GC BBA.

A friend of mine recently got hooked on PSO from playing at my house and is buying it and a gamecube this weekend.

My questions is this. He doesnt have BB internet so he intends on using the modem adaptor.

Does it work well? I played allot of PSO on the Dc using dialup, is the quality at least that good?

Thanks!

I've heard that on the Modem Adapter it seems like everything is slower but to everybody else you are going the same speed they are.

If you ever used the modem on the DC instead of a BBA to connect, provided that you're using the same ISP, there is hardly any difference whatsoever.

I have noticed, however, that the last week or so has seemed rather laggy. But I don't really go online to find items or money anyways, just gather the EXP. Also, when you're lagging, the only thing you have to really worry about is disconnecting - everything runs at normal speed. The only thing that slows down is your interaction with the other characters and the time it takes for an item to appear after destroying a box/killing a monster.

Hope this little bit of info' helps out!

Yeah. It is essentially as reliable as it was on the Dreamcast. If you enjoy a good narrowband connection on your computer, expect the same of your PSO gaming. However, if possible, any narrowband users may want a BBA user to start the game itself; apparently, the games are better optimized during creation if it's a broadband user initializing them. Although I haven't confirmed this, and truthfully wouldn't really be able to anyway, it basically suggests that the PSO servers dynamically adjust said settings according to the creator of the game.

That's all side matters, though. In short, yeah, there's no reason to not buy a modem if they only have dial-up -- broadband, in PSO's case, is not necessary.

I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes for 56k users, but whenever I create a game, I get little to no noticable item lag at all.
Really comes in handy in challenge mode. In a 56k game, I often have to pause for a second over items in order to pick them all up without losing one to the lag... I can quickly and easily get them in a BBA game. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Otherwise, PSO really isn't a game where a ping of 50 is vital, such as a FPS. PSO works great on both a fast and slower connection.

Broadband hosting users = faster onjoin times for everyone, almost instantly.

Picking up items is almost instantaneous as well. It's not worth it to get a BBA if your dial-up ISP is reliable and fast (for dialup) unless you're looking to have the phoneline free.

I personally use the modem adapter for the GCN. The only problem that i've had with the damn thing is that sometimes(1 out of every 500 loads) the GCN will freeze. So then I have to turn off the game cube while still connected and when I turn it back on, it gives me that painful error message telling me that all of my enequpped items have been deleted. That really hurts....alot. Especially the first time it happened to me because I had about 11 uniques on me, because I was trading and I forgot to put them back into the box. Well I'd write more about it but I have to go. More griping later.....

Kaervek plays with me alot. i am on dialup. he has a much worse time with lag than i do. its bad that he is lagging, but its so cool when he catches up, and the last 10 seconds of animation happen at once. he killed 2 vulmers, a nano dragon, and an ob lily in .0015 seconds the other night lol.
