This is an in-progress drawing of my main/persona/favourite char, Ceaile Noa...

Looks a lot more annoyed than I had intended. ^^;; I stink at drawing faces and heads and hair anyhow, so it could've been worse. Just posting this now because I've always wanted to show off my charrie too, but can't take screenshots.. and I'm never satisfied with the job I do when colouring, and don't plan on working on this again until after Christmas. But then I'll (try to) get it coloured and add more of Holtes city in the background, if I don't lose interest by then. ^^;;;

Uh, please be gentle, and please no harsh critique. ^^; Like I said, it's not finished for one thing.. and for another, I'm just a very casual artist anyhow, I don't mind that my art isn't that great. xD;

see what you mean with the head, face looks lop-sided. But hey, everything from the neck down is great.

It issue is, as you and Sord said, the face. It looks like you mashed to different halves together ;(

I'd either close her right eye or open her left. If both eyes are closed, she'd probably look more agitated (because closed eyes mean you're angry in animu).

I like it, the lines are very good and the face, the left side atleast http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif, looks very good. Color?

from what I can tell you, it looks like you drew the hand first then the face second. Which probably explains why it looks lopsided, since you tried to draw the face to fit the hand. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone.. ^^ Yay, I almost had a small heart-attack after posting, worrying someone was going to bash it, or for me trying to draw anime..

Ewh.. after taking a break and looking at it again, I just realized the right hand is like 2/3s the size of the left... I'll prolly redo that and the entire head and collar later... >.<

Yeah.. you're both right... ._. Just having one eye closed seemed kinda neat in my imagination when planning the pic, like she was just tired after a day of doing missions and only really had the strength to open one eye to look back at the viewer. ...sounds really stupid now that I typed it out, but it seemed cool in my head.. ^^;;

Other way around.. I always always draw the face and head first, because I usually do them terribly... So I draw like 10-15 faces/heads, go with the one that looks the best (or, um, least deformed ^^;; ) then I do the rest. =x;; I did resize the head twice though 'cause first it was too big then too small.. ><

Color?
I'm kinda hesitant to. =x; This is prolly my favourite drawing of clothes/body-form.. and my colouring is as bad as my head drawing ^^;;; I'm afraid I'll ruin it.. The sleeves are dark black on the smartia shirt I wear, so that would completely cover all the clothing folds I like so much, and I don't think I can colour well enough to make them look so good ^^;;

And I need to work on christmas pics for my guild on neopets, I keep putting those off... so in any event, I won't be colouring this or doing any more PSU work until after christmas.

Um, again, thank you for all the comments everybody ^^

Its fine and the idea to close one eye is good to it looks like her hand is keeping it closed or something.. you people should just look at the general view and not the ONE flaw

Its a nice line art...but...I hate to trow a monkey rench in it... but her hand looks like its streaching her face one the right side of the artwork. BUT it looks really nice. I havnt seen good linework for awhile. This looks really professional...

I see what Damon means. I noticed it too. It wouldn't look nearly as lopsided (it doesn't anyway, to me) if you defined where the face ended behind the fingers. It looks like her hand doesn't come in contact with her face (around the bend in the fingers), and you neglected/forgot to draw in that last line for the face.

But, other than that, it looks great. I hope you (or someone else?) will colour it.

I don't really think it's so much the eye, as it it was Obsidian said. There no ending of the head behind that hand, so it just looks like the face keep going in that direction.

and if it makes you feel any better, the main reason I bothered looking at this fanart thread was because you gave so much info about MH. I rarely post in these parts anymore. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

There's a trick to coloring black, and retaining outlines or shading: Don't color it black. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif Use 3 shades of gray, instead-- A dark shade for the main color, a darker shade for shadow, and a lighter shade for highlight.

What you've gotta remember when you're coloring something, is that if an object is theorietically black, then that doesn't mean it's actually black, it's just relatively black. HalfDarShadow has an excellent example of this in his sig--

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x125/Zelgoto/DarkSonic.gif

When Sonic turns into Shadow there, he appears to turn "black", but if you stop and consider what you're looking at, he is, in fact, just a very dark gray.

The whole point is that you're not trying to make something literally be a color, you're trying to convey the illusion that something is that color.

Well I think its a fine pic. As mentioned by others all you need to do is finish off the cheek behind the hand an maybe give the hair a bit more effort, not to mean that you haven't given the hair any effort, it just looks rather stenciled an plain. As for color I've seen plenty of good pictures ruined by color so I wouldn't if your not comfortable with it. Although your line work is pretty clean so coloring would be fairly simple, an could really add to the finished picture.

As for coloring in black I do what Meira described start with a gray an then just darken an highlight that. (example (http://free.yosemite.net/~jtaber/images/Raptorial.jpg))
