View Full Version : Freezing issues...?

Alright, I'm just going to apologize in advance (probably again) for most likely bringing up something that has already been brought up a lot (I'm usually behind the times on EVERYTHING).

Ever since getting AoI I've been having an issue that rarely occured in the original PSU. While playing, there will normally be moments when my game will suddenly freeze, causing the music to skip in small loops until it eventually stops and I can continue.

Through observation, this happens most often when I:
A: Switch weapons
B: Activate a checkpoint/Start a mission
C: Am near anyone else switching weapons (not sure on this one)
D: Am near any other players that are loading
E: Adjust the camera
F: Sometimes do nothing that would seemingly cause it

'D' is one of the big instances it happens, because I freeze up a LOT in the Casino when I (rarely) go to a packed Universe. So chances are it might be a loading issue of some kind, and though my computer has never been up to the task of playing this game effectively, I still wanted to check and see if anyone has this problem.

It's not exactly bad, but mostly a nuisance, especially when I'm in a party and get left behind because my game decides to just stop for about 2 seconds. It can even happen twice in a row with only about half of a second in between.

Though, like I said, it's more annoying then anything. Back during the original PSU I would usually get knocked out of the game because of freeze-ups (though I did get kicked earlier while going between the last block of Awakened Serpent to the De Rol Le battle...).

Yup, I've experienced it too and met others with what I expect is the same problem. For me it happened when returning to a lobby after a completed mission and also as I stepped out of My Room. I too never had the problem in regular PSU. It isn't very frequent, it has only happened four times so far, and I'm not bothered with it. But still.

I noticed that this problem disappeared for me when I turned off all sound in the pre-game Options menu. Of course, that meant I had to play with no music or sound, which wasn't a solution at all.

Some people suggest lowering/raising/messing around with your soundcard's hardware acceleration settings. This didn't work for me, but using AutoGear mostly solved it- now I'll freeze rarely or not at all.

For more on AutoGear, see: http://boards2.sega.com/psu_board/viewtopic.php?t=21715

It's all about sound. Disabling sound entirely, through the online.exe sound menu will prevent it, but again, will result in no sound. (Duh lol) But, I believe, 90% of people found that increasing their sound acceleration level to 'Full' solved the problem. Though, having it on Full can make alot of sound effects REALLY loud, making you turn down your sound to get the right balance, making it so you can't hear the little character voices and various other sounds.. But that's oly with certain people. (My old PC did it). So yeah, that's an option.

In case you dunno how to change the acceleration, basic guide: Click Start > Run, type in 'dxdiag' without the quotations and in the Sound tab, you can change your Sound Accleration levels using the little slider http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

My game has frozen a few times when I've tried to visit other people's rooms...it just freezes the 360 completely to the point where I have to reboot....
