View Full Version : Moatoob: The planet everyone forgot.

The sad facts*:

1.) It was the last planet to be opened up. Because of this expectations were high but they quickly fell flat upon its opening. It was to hard and quickly abandoned.

2.) Moatoob had only one hotspot: Bruce's Dungeon. Two if you count the casino.

3.) It had only one Firebreak mission.

4.) The 1UP mission for Moatoob had a real pain in the butt time limit and boss which probably didn't help its reputation.

5.) Moatoob did not have a non-reskin boss until AoI.

6.) The place STILL doesn't have a sub-boss.

7.) 4 of the 10 episode two chapters took place on Moatoob. However the last mission there with the beast kid probably killed whatever goodwill had been built up.

8.) At this point in the expansion, it has only two new missions compared to Neudaiz's 5 and Parum's 4. ...and neither of those two missions even takes place in a new-new area. Just a mines reskin.

9.) Dagora City has only one place to launch free missions from. That makes it kind of difficult to expand off into new areas of the planet without first going to some far off lobby.

10.) Moatoob is the only planet without a relics stage. There was one in the story missions, but no free missions. - Yuki_N

Will this planet continue to be an eyesore? Only time will tell~

* Should be mostly accurate

It's my favorite planet. People should stop whining about PSU being too easy when they don't even fight on Moatoob. I think it's the most interesting looking planet. I'm especially keen to warm weather and dry deserts, so it naturally attracts my attention.

I don't know why I don't like it, but I just.. do not. It isn't because it is hard or anything, it just never struck me as very interesting. The whole planet and its culture kind of bores me, I guess..

Not that I dislike the culture, or can't appreciate it for what it is.. but it doesn't really stimulate me like Neudaiz or Parum do. *shrugs*

Onmagoug and Dimmagoug are practically identical, both in appearance and strategy, which is almost ridiculous because it doesn't seem like they cared to do anything but rehash him..

Adahna Degahna and Magas Maggahna -are- a bit different from one another in more than a passing glance sense.. but the difference is kind of negligible strategy-wise anyway.. for all intents and purposes they act mostly the same. It is sad.

I call him a reskin of Deghanna and not the other way around, because.. I'm fairly sure Deghanna was introduced first in Ep1.. and likewise I think it was introduced first online. So yea, Maggahna as such is referred to as the reskin. (And you're right, Deghanna is easier, but not because they act too very different from one another..)

10) Moatoob is the only planet without a relics stage. There was one in the story missions, but no free missions

And about the reskins the only real noticeable differences is that they are BOTH 50 times more annoying than the regular versions. Dimma stays on the ground for about two seconds, and Maggas has that whole midsection falling off part, which makes the fight drag on needlessly long, especially without a ranger.

As for the planet, its only got 3 areas. Mines, Valley, and Desert. They're all pretty much the same, two of them even share the same (annoying) music track. Parum and Neudaiz have a lot more variety in their locations, even more so with areas like Rozenom and Habirao

They COULD have done a lot with the northern continent idea, people have been begging for an ice themed stage since Sil Dragon in PSO. Instead we got one ice themed mission thats only two blocks and forgettable. Where is absolute zero online? Where is a mission that looks like the ice lobby?

The whole planet needs a lot of work

It's mostly the stage and exploding bottom section, bigger stage lets him teleport further away, exploding bottom make him harder to hit.

Most of their attacks are identicle save for the animation (ex: Adhana uses a whip and meghas uses a sword, meghas charges with his sword forward, adhana with his arms to his sides, such things, very little real difference, not quite as bad as dimmagolus and ohnmagoug, though.).

Which is why I admitted that there was a difference earlier, it just doesn't amount to much strategy-wise. And Degahna does have an exploding bottom section too, it is just you can still hit that section with melee weaponry after it explodes and falls off, unlike with Maggahna.. which indeed is more of an annoyance than anything.

Personally, I can't really stand to fight either of these bosses due to how obvious their reskinned nature is.. and yea, because of how much more annoying they are for no good reason. >_>

Moatoob is simply the bastard child planet that has more than its fair share of annoying enemies and lack of rewards. The new AotI missions are nice and all, and hey, I'm glad I found a Resist/Freeze out of them, but damn... They just get old much faster than the other planets. For one thing the Moatoob missions harken back to Caves on PSO. Long, uninspired looking, boring, and filled with enemies that spam one attack over and over (Megid in Caves versus Diga and Foie). It's alright in short bursts, but I simply become irritated at it and want to do other missions with greater rewards for the annoyance.

It does, though it is pretty rare you ever see it happen, yea. And when it happens you can still hit the lower section with melee as I said, unlike with Maggahna.. In fact, the first time Maggahna's bottom exploded, I was very confounded at the fact I couldn't seem to hit it.. not realizing that it was impossible, unlike with Degahna..

And yea, Alterazgohg is pretty nice a reskin. I just wish the other reskins turned out as nicely as he did. >_>

I agree. I think Moatoob is the way it is because of its story. It was meant to be the f***ed planet due to the Race wars and it is supposed to be a memento to the realities of that war: Harsh, Barren, Brutal and unforgiving. But I do wish that people went there more. Because it is so hard, I level up faster on that planet. They need more missions there that connect to the story too. All Most of the current missions there involve chasing rouges through caves.

The single thing about Magas that makes it more annoying than the Deghana (for me, anyway), is the way he slides backward out of range from whoever he's targeting all the damn time. He's not too bad if you have three or four people and spread out, but with one or tw...ugh.

That said, I love the desert missions on Moatoob, but there're only three and there's not much reason to do System Defense when Desert Terror exists with largely the same spawns plus the Dimmag.

Valley missions are decent--except for Kogg Nadds--but for some reason I find the caves to be really uninspired. Maybe it's the fact that it has the same music as the valleys (and thus 80% of the planet sounds the same), but while I do a lot of the other missions pretty regularly I never run Tunnel Recapture and only rarely do the Magas mission. The new caves--even if just a reskin--definitely have a better feel to them than the old ones, though. The De Rol Le mission's fun if only to have an excuse to use lightning weapons and earth armor.

For one, you might notice significant structural differences in the actual 3D model of the two bots. The Deghanna is a manned craft with a cokpit. The Maghanna is an autonomous killing machine...basically an oversized CAST.

Then you have the fact that the Deghanna always has a hit point on its lower torso. Does FAR less damage per attack than the Maghanna, has a pathetic range with his machine gun, shoots roughly 1/6 the missiles the Maghanna does, and lastly, the Deghanna lacks the Maghanna's ground-pound move which stuns you if it doesn't kill you outright.

And lastly, almost everyone's commented on the difference in stage size. But you have to take into account the size of the boss itself. If you wanted to constantly aim for the Deghanna's arms, it's alot easier because they're not 6 feet above your character 95% of the time. Also, for his size, the Maghanna moves alot faster.

That being said, I like Moatoob in general, and as I said before I enjoy the De Rol Le mission. Their firebreak mission was awesome at the time...it was premium power-levelling for clanmates of mine who wanted to start new characters. I think the main reasons people hated the 1Up mission so much was 1) the Maghanna (the boss is irritating enough WITHOUT a time limit) and 2) that idiotic friendship check thing.

One last point, Bills are roughly the same as Kajibari in a way, except they only have a single hit point. Means that much less damage coming from melee attacks.

I love mot, particularly the desert, and more importantly it drops boards and materials for all my favorite gear... Tenora armors, axes, knuckles... S-rank shotguns and launchers. Win and awesome, all of it.

Except for catilium-hunting you won't catch me in any mission that doesn't have AOI loot rates though. I like "not" wallowing in poverty.

Dec 19, 2007, 11:38 AM
I think I should do some more Moatoob. Although Neudaiz kicks Moatoob in the ass for S rank weaponry for fighters, Moatoob has better armor stuff like Rabol Lefba, Rabol Orpad which are awesome for Acrofighters and Orpad Legs for those who want to stack up on EVP and Orpad Guard if you're a Fortefighter wanting to stack up on DFP. The problem is that some of the bosses are such pansies, although De Rol Le is fun to fight and the song for him is pretty cool.

Just wanted to point out that Degahna's missiles are much stronger than Maggahna's. About 3 times stronger in fact. There are less of them, but they kill me if I take all 4. With Maggahna, I can stand in the barage and not flinch. Also with Degahna, the missile from the left hand hits harder and is much more difficult to dodge than Maggahna's hand missle.

Overall it doesn't really matter since you can beat both of them without taking any damage. It's just that Maggahna takes longer to solo.

I've been thinking the exact same thing the past week. I want to run some D.G. runs there for a Blackbull or Rattlesnake board while we have boosted synth, but when I go there on Uni 1-15, no one is there at all or it's a locked game going on. It's only 2 blocks people! Even the De Rol Le lobby is becoming a ghost town :

The missions on Neudaiz are so popular because of the Force and Fighter weapon drops. I hate doing runs there because when I end up getting a 10 star board, it's an ax. Gunners can't use axs! >_<

There's the problem....it's not enough pure gunners out there. Majority of the population are either Fighters or Forces.

Yes, a massive ice SEED infection late in episode one, with the Absolute Zero mission and all.

Absolute Zero:

A new SEED attack has been confirmed in the West Kugu Desert. A large number of native creatures are being ice-contaminated.

This is the mission where you kill 150 enemies.

I REMEMBER THAT!
But that wouldn't freeze the entire Northern Continent as well, would it? :/

Well SEED are pretty damn good at conaminating things quickly and in massive ways, aren't they?, besides that's pretty much the most reasonable explanation to it.

I'm gonna miss this mission when I move to AotI.

I think that got cleared out when they activated the containment thing, what little hadn't already been purified by the guardians and AMF, that is.

I don't find the ice caps on Moatoob too odd. Desert planet or not, a planet with an atmosphere is going to be considerably colder at its caps compared to the rest of the planet. Throw in the fact that an inhabited planet has to have water in some amount, and presto, you've got ice.

Seriously, that's not weird at all, in fact it's normal! Most desert planets in real life are not only barren, but sub-freezing in temperature unsuitable for life. Desert does not mean hot. Here on Earth we even have deserts of snow and ice. Try Antarctica.

I ran Moatoob quite a bit, even during the least-popular times. Moatoob still has some of my favorite monsters in the game. Bill De Vears and Druas own your soul. Other planet monsters haven't invented their level of fun.

But I do forget, sometimes, that people don't play this game for fun. Heh heh.

I like Matoob, its fun and the fact that it is a bit harder than the other two makes it interesting. Though the xp does suck I still run solo missions often. I will move there when we (xbox) get that option unlocked. I like the whole "Mad Max & the Thunderdome" look and feel the planet has to it.

moatoob is my all time fav, i get really tired of the 1000th parum area or nuedaiz mission. i go to moatoob all the time and go thru all the lvls just for fun. personally i think its the most interesting planet and i just cant wait for new things to come out for it.
also its gewd to add variety into this game if you keep doing the same missions youll end up very bored, if you dont play moa then a nows a gewd time to explore it

plus i love the way the sky looks in lvls like valley of carnage lol

As for the discussion with ice caps on Moatoob.

Even Mars has icecaps:

This is what Mars looked like with water:

um... when was moatoob hard? hard to find a party? yes, arduous? well hiking a mile between spawns was, sure, but actually hard? outside of bosses when you are a melee class, Id have to say no, I'd run it if i could find parties.

Billy960
Jan 20, 2008, 01:19 PM
I still run Moatoob missions every once in a while. Mostly De Rol sometimes VoC to level bullets and stuff. Most people ignore it because its "too hard" which is stupid since everyone complains that the game is too easy.

I am sure many people will start doing runs there once all the V1 boss box rates are changed to AoI boss box rates. I know tons of gunners who will be hunting for a Rattle Snake.

Also I bet we will get a Relics area there eventually. It wouldn't make sense if we never got one.

Moatoob is fun IMO and it doesn't have exploding robots. I hate those....

Oh gosh yeah, I hate those exploding robots unless I'm on my female Newman WT, in which case I'll spam Megid on them and boom, dead. As for the Vandas that infest Moatoob, Shiro has their worst nightmare, the silencing Deva-zashi. I love to say this alot but Vandas are as harmless as cute little teddy bears when they're silenced since they have 0 melee ability.

But I think there are a few Moatoob missions that have exploding robots, the one with Magas I think?

ooooohhhhh that looked intriguing. so back when psu was to be set in the race war period they were gonna blow up the retched hive of scum and villainy.

that could explain the neglect moatoob seems to have recieved, it also fits with the ambition of the illuminus too....... oh crap hold on THAT IS "THE AMBITION OF THE ILLUMINUS"!!! to destroy the triparthied agreement and restore human supremacy.... how better than to blow up the worst of the filthy slave races home planet.

but back to topic, moatoob is suffering because of the NEED for killershot and the boring as hell runs, which hold little reward as boss box rares (rattlesnake anyone?? or gur asted or even gudda hon) drop like rocking horse shit even with protectors missions

I really want to like Moatoob, but something about it is holding me back.

When I heard of Moatoob, I thought of like a rainforest, not a desert.

Although, I really like the desert areas. But it seems that most of the missions take place in caves/mines, which I really don't like!!!!

I have a feeling Moatoob will be the "it" planet in the next expansion (if there is one). Parum was the "it" planet of v1, and Neudaiz seems to be the most popular planet atm.

The enemies on Moatoob are actually a lot of fun to fight. Kogg Nadds and Vanda kick the everliving shit out of Tengoghs, Ollakas, Koltova/Distova, and Vahra. The only neat things Parum and Neudaiz have are Jarbas, Kamatoze, and Relics (my personal favorite field). Moatoob is scheduled to get a relics of its own at some point, so that completes it as the perfect planet. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I /love/ Moatoob, and I happen to think it's a bit too underrated. Hard? We've gotten updates to where our stats and PA's gotten a power boost. Even our classes, got boosts, and people are /still/ complaining that it's hard? Bah.

What else. Reskins.. Dimma basically IS a reskin of Onma, but a faster and more cowardly version of him. On the other hand, Maggas is not the same as Deghana in MY opinion.

-Maggas is bigger.
-Teleports more often.
-Doesn't heal.
-Uses a sword that's friggin' huge and would make Godzilla pee himself.
-Has a "second form" that is rather irritating to fight, especially when he runs you over constantly.
-Weakspot is the shoulder.
-Is Purpley, not green.

If anything, the only thing those two share are the force-field thing, but that's about it. Once again, my opinion.

gambit04

Off topic:
Maggas is SO a reskin just because it isn't exactly the same you still are looking at basically the same boss.

1. Both teleport
2. One heals when low on health the other does damage when you are near him when low on health
3. One has a whip the other has a sword
4. They both have a weak spot behind them(Maggas' weak spot is less noticable since you are never really behind him long)

Just like Dimma is a reskin of Onma(changing stats and time durations doesn't make it a new boss its the same fighting style for each boss)

Back on topic:
People like to avoid Moatoob because most think it is too hard and doesn't give out enough exp, mp, money, drops etc. I'm not sure...I'm never there because it is too much work to pick up a party to be honest(and I'm never REALLY looking for any rare drops). If someone sends me a mail and asks me to go do a run over there I would probably go.

Psycho_Sonic
Feb 1, 2008, 03:14 PM
Maggas may be a reskin, but it's an acceptable one.

1. It's a robot. Robots can be upgraded/have newer models, so it's understandable realistically.
2. ...i don't really have a 2. >_>
3. Profit!
