What the fuck? Why do the JP players get all the good things? We can help contribute in the 100,000,000 kills so that somebody else can win the prizes we helped them earn? Not to mention they get server maintenence more often than us, and more quests. I'm not trying to whine or bitch but I don't think we are getting a square deal here

Um.... duh?

There are more Japanese PSO players. If you're ST/SEGA, you cater to your primary consumers first.

Think about how EU gamers out there feel - Not only do they get almost every game like 6 months after its initial release, a lot of times they completely miss out on great titles.

Well, seeing the fact that Japan is a different society, and that ST and Sega's main HQs are in Japan, and that Japan's version came out first...any other excuses people can think of?

We US PSO players have been jipped since PSO for DC. We should at least get a few US exclusive quests, but nope, we get practically nothing.

this is the one reason i like the xbox over all other consoles, with sony and nintendo all their games are released first in japan, usually with better content and it seems so far that in online games they shaft the u.s players to, face it, these japanese companies dont give a ^#$@ about us americans...go xbox

Ruby-chan

They've always been that way. However there really isn't any excuse for it since there are plenty of people they could employ over here to maintain things better for us, but they don't, and they use us to fund what they give the Japanese. At least with European players Sega can use the excuse of converting the game for a PAL system.

Riiiiiiight, that's why Japan got the beta first, right?

This really isn't news, this has been posted for the umpteeth time, I lost count. But yes, seeing as the majority of the players are in Japan, so they are going to get the better treatment. Cancel your HL if it's such a big deal.

Remember it takes time and work to translate quests into English, so usually JP will get certain quests first. As with JP players getting certain prizes exclusively, part of it is to encourage trading between countries. This is the way it's been since the old DC days. The only problem is that Americans never get any of their own exclusive quests with their own exlusive prizes. But then again, since PSO is made in Japan, of course they're going to cater to their own. It's just human nature to take care of your own first. Americans are no different.

No one wants to hear it, but its the truth..and its..really, deal with it, or leave. That's how americans are to Imagriants etc. people who are new to the united states. You either like it, or leave. What i suggest you do is take with it, flow with it, and learn to make friends, else you may find yoruself without fairly quickly. U can't really force anything you want, espeically in a situation like this where you don't make the rules. This thing is kinda like an unwritten law that's "understood" like the Number one in algebra. Sega of japan caters to their coustomers more than Sega of America. So if you want to start to blame someone, start with SoA. But even they to be frank are doing what they can...

I have a question... I assume Famitsu Magazine is actually a sponsor in this quest, right? It would make sense then that they'd only cater to the Japanese gamers, as Famitsu only exists overseas.

Another question... Are these "prizes" just items on the game, or real material prizes mailed by Famitsu and Sega Of Japan? This is something I've never been clear on. Again, I could see why it's Japan only if they're actual prizes, but I can see NO reason to limit it to JP players if the rewards were PSO items.

Jeez, even on Sonic Adventure we ALL got exclusive challenges; US got AT&T's Sonic2k, EU got a Reebok challenge and Japan got some DSL company sponsored challenge, I believe. It worked out INCREDIBLY well IMO (with EU getting some of the best prizes for once, even; they deserved it), and I even placed in 19th on Sonic2k (http://www.cox-internet.com/ghiltz/SonicTeamLetter.jpg) and won me a er, prize (http://www.cox-internet.com/ghiltz/SonicStickers.jpg).
Why can't they do something similar on PSO, with its MUCH larger community?

The XBox version will probably come the closest to catering to both countries as equals since it's run on Microsoft's server this time. If you have the money, go for that when it comes out I guess.

And the US isn't completely screwed out of the prizes. Sad to say but duping, among other means eventually like the PAR, will make the item available to all eventually. Kind of sucks for the winner though in Japan still. =/

WOW, what an abundance of happiness and sunshine! I had a feeling this thread would take a racist turn, and sure enough, here we go. I'm not even sure what the last post about "stupid japenness people" was supposed to mean. I find 99.5% of all US games to be pure steaming piles of crap (EA can freakin' blow me), with the very rare exception such as Metroid Prime. As for American made consoles, with the exception of the Xbox, it's been almost 20 years since an American manufactured console has been a huge success. Otherwise, Japanese consoles have dominated the scene ever since the NES. Jeez, either way, not a whole lot of education in those two posts, guys. Chill out.

Whew. Back on topic now. From the update on the homepage, it sounds like 100 Japanese players win memory card stickers? Huh. Sounds like Sonic Team really likes to give out stickers for their prizes. I was friends with the 1st place winner of the Sonic2k competition, and he was like, 10 DC which included 4 or 5 copies of Sega Bass Fishing, no joke. I knew a few 1st place winners of the SA World Rankings who won trophies I believe, which were said to have been pretty cheap an' funky.
Point being, I guess we're really not missing much in the way of prizes... so far. It's only been 10 million monsters killed so far, yeah? I guess more prizes will be awarded.

Well, I am gonna hold out that we will get an event on our side eventually too...

After all, this IS a FAMITSU inspired event, right? (correct me if I am wrong on this) I would think it would be doubtful that FAMITSU would cover the US too... seeing as how it isn't published here.

Besides, it ain't like they are getting much from this... we can get the GAME MAGAZINE (whee!) as well, we just don't get the spiffy stickers. WOW. Those lucky B@st3rds! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Besides, I find Maximum Attack 2 to be quite enjoyable, and I am very happy to have it to play... wish it wasn't gonna dissapear in a month.

You've never tried translating something, have you? They have to translate the dialogue. Even a short bit of translation can take upwards of an hour, and they're producing this stuff professionally, so the intent is to leave as few errors in as possible. That takes editing.

Sure, it really shouldn't take months to do it, but five minutes? Not in this lifetime.

Uhm, the REAL reason behind only Japanese getting the physical prizes is because Famitsu, a JAPANESE COMPANY, is sponsoring the event, kind of like Coca-cola sponsoring a prize contest on their soda. When you buy a can of coke, you can win a soda or a million dollars or something, it's all random. HOWEVER, that prize is only good if you're located in a certain region of the world, I.E. If I lived in zimbabwe or something stupid, and I imported a bottle of american Coke and won a million dollars with that can, I couold not claim it because I do not live in america.

AND furthermore, in america, there is a law that prohibits games that award prizes unless there is no purchase necessary. Like how you can mail away for mcdonalds monopoly stamps, or a coke prize top or whatever. SO, if Famitsu wanted to give prizes to america, they'd have to offer some mail away whatever so that millions of people who don't own the game can win the prizes, etc. etc.

No one seems to get pissed off when Coca cola runs a Japan-only contest, because we just don't hear about it. Since PSO is a "worldwide" game, we're always going to get exposed to Japan-only contests. Only ignorant or misinformed people are going to sit around and make wild claims about how Sonic team and the Japanese are screwing us or whatever. Go buy a clue.

That's because all the good American made video games are on computer. From what you've posted, you don't really sound like a real PC game player (And I'm not talking solitare.) so you haven't really gotten a chance to play any. Assuming you have the hardware to really get into it, I suggest checking out what you're missing. PC games on average come much cheaper than console games, (But you pay for it in hardware.) there's a larger library, and prices usually see discounts fairly quickly. Besides, without US game makers we'd be short a lot of gems your probably unaware of.

And though you may not like EA, they have published (Not developed, published.) some very nice games, they do a /lot/ more than sports games. (Of which I agree, I hate all their sports games.) They also control Maxis.. Ultima Online.. and.. so much stuff it's frightening.

No, I was actually only referring to American console games. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
I'm a huge fan of first person shooters, and we all know that US is THE source of FPS games. Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, Half Life, Medal Of Honor: Allied Assualt... All fantastic games, and all developed by American companies.
And yes, even EA with their licenced crap and rehash sports games have published out some damn fine PC games such as the aforementioned MOH:AA, and even developed a few classics (which still usually have some major bugs, but that's what loads of patches are for).
id, Epic, Blizzard, Bioware... all incredible North American developers.

But as far as US console games go? I can count on one hand the number of American developed games I've bought in the last two years. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif Metroid Prime... Frequency... ... *thinks* Lemme get back to you on that.

Ruby-chan

Ahh, ok, so you do play PC games.. well there's still a lot more US PC games other than FPS games (Just FPS is the most popular, it's pretty much generic action and one can easily put a lot of variations on it.) but yeah I agree with you with console games. There's always the few ports, but to tell what good console US made games there are... ehh we'd have to do some real searching for them...
