New Phantasy Star Portable information

SonicTeam held their first public demonstration of the upcoming PSP game Phantasy Star Portable at Jump Festa 2008 (http://www.jumpfesta.com/index2.html) which will be running until Sunday. Courtesy of Shougai PSO (http://www.g-heaven.net/pso/topics/071222b.html), I present you guys with some new information on the game!

Oh, yeah. Disclaimer and all that. Keep in mind that the information presented here is pertinent to PSP ONLY and DOES NOT REFLECT IN ANY WAY ON PSU.

One more thing, think of PSP in the same way you would PSU's offline modes as far as weapons, EXP, stats, drops, etc.

Guardian types
Hunter, Ranger and Force are still around as the basic types. However, it seems that they all have access to A-rank weapons in their respective categories. There are five advanced types available: Fighmaster, Gunmaster, Masterforce, Acromaster and Protranser. The requirements for each type are:
Fighmaster: Hunter LV7
Gunmaster: Ranger LV7
Masterforce: Force LV7
Acromaster: Hunter LV4, Ranger LV2, Force LV4
Protranser: Not listed, but possibly the same as it is now.
Weapon proficiencies
Fighmaster: S-rank swords, knuckles, spears, double sabers, axes, twin sabers, sabers, slicers
A-rank twin daggers, twin claws, daggers, claws, handguns, machineguns, RCSMs, TCSMs
Acromaster: S-rank twin sabers, twin daggers, twin claws, sabers, daggers, claws, whips, slicers, twin handguns, handguns, machineguns, RCSMs, wands, TCSMs
A-rank knuckles, double sabers, cards

Those are the only two listed, though hopefully more information will become available soon. Also, no photon art caps were listed.

New weapons
A few new weapons were revealed in the demo, including the first C-rank axe and the return of some more PSO weapons.
Sacred Duster (knuckles)
Soul Eater (A-rank sword)
Nacon (TCSM)
Bil De Horn Axe (C-rank axe)
Final Impact (shotgun)
Primera Fiole (slicer)
Laser Pannon (laser cannon)

Heh, this is awseome, looks like there gonna give us one of the best RPGs on the PSP soon. Heh, also it seems that Alfa systems done a rebalancing act on one game and made ST look stupid. (that was a joke).

On another note, the new classes are looking good, if this keeps up I might have to go to GunMaster from Protranser unless the get new weapons and have access to Double Sabers and Twin Sabers.

Im debateing importing the game also just not sure sicne my i could get by with it.However my one friend who is sure to get it wouldnt be able to he doesnt read enough japanese(he speaks a bit).However if the eng ver and jp ver are compaitable (as they most likely will be)then ill be seeing my PSP on PSP ASAP XD

RCSM = ranged combat support machine
TCSM = TECHNIC combat support machine

They're known as shadoogs and madoogs in the Japanese version, respectively.

ahhhhh, thank you much! I didn't know they were renamed in the american version. Kinda dissapointing

Acromaster looks like a very interesting class...I do hope for this class to come to normal PSU (as i don't have a PSP XD) But if not, I wan't to know how the class is in all details =3

PSU should be getting the master classes in the near future. For the JP servers at least 3 new types have been announced for the next coming months which should be Fighmaster, Gunmaster, and Masterforce.

I like the weapon selection for Fighmaster but since that's for Portable and not PSU I dunno if Sega will do the same thing with the class online, but I hope they do. Outside of losing twin handguns that class would be perfect for my tastes.

I'm a Fighgunner for the Crossbows and Twin Handguns plus the S-rank proficiency in Sabers, Twin Sabers and Daggers, which Fighmaster as presented here doesn't do. So yes, dear god, please let this apply only to the PSP version. XD

But yeah. Classes don't grab me at all, plus I don't own a PSP... Iffy. Eh, knowing me I'll probably get it. XP

PSP seems to be built on the same ground as the offline modes of PSU: higher drop rates, higher EXP payout, non-Forces using TECHNICs, etc., so I'm almost positive that the weapon selection for the new types will be exclusive to this game. We should see the weapon selections for online FM, GM and MF in the next month or so when those types are released in the Japanese AotI.

This is starting to look like what happens before the Phantom of Arkguard and Episode 1 or 2. I hope that is the case cause there is alot more to this story than meets the eye.

I've never been one to be on the front line of a game release before, but it seems that Im gonna get all 3 regions of this game. Heh, I just need help with the translating. Im hoping all free missions from Episode 1 and AOI are there.

I think many if not all of the free missions will remain intact. During the demonstration at Jump Festa 2008, they were showing off Plains Overlord B. (That was the only mission, though.)

Bah. I'm hoping to see all of the old classics and some of the AOI one on there aswell(Scarred Plannet will look freaking awesome). With the introduction of the PSO stuff, it seems there gonna throw in the PSO missions anyway(it looks like that). But what is the most strangest thing about it is that they kept Protranser. Of all classes, why Protranser(take in mind this might be the same PT as online), it has no techs to support them selves and wouldn't suit the offline play(Not being mean to PTs just for the fact I am one). But yeah, hoping and Protransers have Rods and Double Sabers XD.

That's pretty much it. Vivienne is, as you said, a prototype CAST from GRM who was enlisted in the GUARDIANS to try out her new abilities. This style of CAST is supposed to have far superior processing and combat abilities compared to all previous CAST models.

And you probably recognize her from a screen that was posted a while back of different Ambition of the Illuminus character models. She and Helga both have models in the expansion, so I expect them to make some sort of appearance which will likely tie the two games together.

Just kind of happened across this a moment ago. IGN posted a hands-on report (http://uk.psp.ign.com/articles/843/843120p1.html) for PSP. In short: they like it. Strangely enough, they say that the game is scheduled for Japanese release in the spring. Odd considering that SonicTeam haven't said that. Then again, I guess one of the booth guys could've let that slip during the event.
