Do you remember the time we picked wildflowers down by the old mill and danced through the tall grass so sweetly redolent of youthful dreams? It was very long ago, yet those days still float upon the surface of memory's deep pool, so readily recalled but beyond true resurrection, for they are bloated, rank and green corpses that only now dance through the power of the mind's imaginings.
Ah! We made such an painfully perfect pair (such a terrific twosome!). My heart beats an anguished rhythm when I think of how it all ended--and how it should have. No, how it shouldn't have.
Damn this cold winter that blights the fields and the forests and my sorry, sorrowful, so-sad soul.
I fear we shall never meet again, not even beyond the well-trodden grave.

To whom it may concern:

Times have been tough, and I have long since devoured those flowers of yesteryear to nourish me for tomorrow. The pools water tainted as I bathed, for memory alone cannot aid a stinky man.
In time I learned to forget our ending, and write my own. One which doesn't end in winter, but lies cold and dormant waiting in the frozen bath water for one who skates atop the golden lake.
