View Full Version : PSU-XBox 360: Males using Female Characters

I've been online for a few days now and have noticed that a lot of guys are using female characters, but they are still speaking on the voice chat. Does this weird anyone out? Is this okay? Some say that being a character of the opposite gender you are in real life simply adds to the concept of role playing. Not sure how I feel about this so I would like some votes and explanations. =]

The excuse a lot of male players use is that they'd rather stare at T&A rather than D&A while they're playing. I play both PC and 360, so I have a character of every race and gender except newman. Although the stat differences aren't much, people still consider that when choosing the gender of their characters.

I don't think it's weird at all. I play a lot of fighting games and I usually pick the female characters, mainly because they're faster most of the time and I prefer their fighting styles.

There really isn't any role-playing in PSU... not that I see. It's all asthetics. You just have to look pretty, pick the weapon that matches your outfit (male characters, too) and beat the snot out of stuff.

It's not weird at all IMO. My female main was recreated from PSO, back when you HAD to be a specific gender in order to get some very different stats/abilities.

That fact that I made her nice to look at is just icing on the cake XD

Ok, my opinion might not count as i only have the PC version and donīt have voice chat http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
But...no i can assure itīs not wierd.

I have a Female character as a main and most of my friends do to, and there is nothing wrong with them.
Some figures just doesnīt fit to be guys to me so they become the opposite gender.
Itīs only wierd if one make a big deal outta it, that just shows how insecure one am about ones masculinity.

It's really not uncommon, and in truth, I'm surprised that there are so many that find it strange. Personally, I've developed what I believe to be a legitimate psychological theory regarding the subject, which I have seriously considered conducting a study on. I've got some bits to work out on it as yet, but what I'm thinking thus far goes something like this:

Take two PSU-playing dudes. Dude #1 has 3 female characters and 1 male character, and Dude #2 is the other way around-- 3 male characters and 1 female character. In each case, a female character is the dude's "main". In the case of Dude #1, this is a guy who is prone to seeking multiple relationships with women, and this contrasts with Dude #2, in that he is prone to monogamous relationships, and thus, can be satisfied with having just one romantic woman in his life. In the cases of guys who have all female characters, I'm not certain yet, though I suppose that it could indicate that he is really quite fond of the female form, but his overall contact with women in general may not be quite as much as his personality desires. In the case of a guy who makes all male characters, again, I'm still mulling this over, but I'm thinking that this is a guy who simply isn't concerned with having a woman in his life. This could be due to general disinterest in women (for whatever reason), or complete satisfaction with his female interaction.

I'm still working on it. I may very well look into conducting a survey on the subject at some point in the near future.

to me, it is more appealling to play as a female character. Like for example, Soul Calibur, i like to play with the female characters more than most of the male characters because i like how they look. There is nothing weird with a guy playing as a female character. In a psychological term, male likes to look at female more than male likes to look at male. I can say the same things for female as well.
Good thing i take psychology class in college. My female professor stated that a true male acts feminine and a true female acts like a tomboy...its just that weird, but whatever. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

My main in PSO was a HUcaseal because she was a freaking ninja. So my main in PSU is a female Cast. Simple enough I think.

yea it seems weird at first that so many gusy play as girls, but after a while u jsut get used to it and u dont care much http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I think that all guys characters look dum.... so my main is a male CAST http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

the rest of my characters are female though -_-

i jsut dont like the way male fleshies look http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I agree. I didn't think that it was weird. I have only met one other female character that was a female in person. I suppose there is no really issue here...thanks for the response!

That actually sounds reasonable. According to your theory, I guess I'm Dude #1 (3 Females 1 Male, Female Main).

Some stuff I'd like to add:

Some players play their characters as if they are the characters themselves, hence, become the character. These people tend to only create characters of the same gender (i.e. male player only create male characters).

Other players, like myself, play their characters as if they are controlling a video game character. The player does not become the character, but only controls them from the third-person view. It can be compared to a male player controlling only girls in FFX2.

And, like you said, some male players only create female characters to have his own cyber-harem (fap fap)

Agreed. I have three female characters. Just because. I could've just as easily made three male characters.

Did I choose female characters because I was abused at an early age and have commitment issues with women and maybe I WANT to be a woman, et al? No. I chose female characters just because. There was no inner psychological shortcoming that made me do so. I had the free will to play a female character, so I played a female character.

Maybe it's because one time when I was small we were playing Chutes and Ladders and, you know, Chutes and Ladders has 4 male character pieces and 4 female character pieces and one time, there were 5 boys playing Chutes and Ladders and I had to be a "girl" character. Yeah, I think that's why....http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif

Behaviors are generally inspired by one propensity or another. As simply as you choose a female character, I enjoy observing and recognizing patterns in such behavior. It's done out of recreation, rather than necessity.

Still, while the agreement of others is encouraging, I could very well be quite wrong, and thus, why I am seriously considering conducting a study.

I have 3 female chars and 1 male char.
Blune, female CAST guntecher, I created her based on a RAcaseal (female CAST ranger) I had on PSO.
Luppi, female Newman acrotecher, I created her based on a FOmarl (female Human force, foccused on support) I had on PSO.
Johana, female Newman acrofighter, my main char, made her based on a female elf fighter I had on another game. On that game I had a male elf mage as main, then made a 2nd char, a female elf fighter named Johana, and she became my main. My main on psu was kinda based on her.
Ezodagrom, human Beast fortefighter, made him because I wanted at least 1 male char XD

im a male using a female, it was weird in the beginning but i got used to it, my friends callin me vickie n shit lol. Every single game i played i always played as male so i figured id try a female once, and The character i was sampling was a female robot (check the sig),I like the concept of the weakest form of human (little Girls) swinging heavy axes and big ass cannons and shit, and to make it seem a lil more real made it a cast to explain why she can do that, well what im really trying to say is i find female chars more interesting as i'm sure most of yall do, to put it bluntly i'm not one of the gay ones. I'll smack the shit out of you in a second.(generally speaking)

LOL, a guy playing a female character isn't considered gay in the slightest, unless you're seriously hitting on male characters in the game. Designing a cute or attractive female character is the same as fantasizing your dream girl - it's a game after all, it is, well, fantasy and so in some/most cases falls under roleplaying. You could just as easily argue that guys playing as guys is more or less gay, which is just as silly as this whole topic. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
