View Full Version : AotI-PC/PS2: Emo And Goth Guardians Unite!

SATatami

Well. After my escapades as a random emo, made me wonder. How many different ways can one dress like an emo or goth in PSU? So if I get enough people wanting to do a "beauty pageant" of sorts for emo and goth wannabes. I'd like to ask DJ SkyEpic to judge if he would, as well as get two other refutable judges, but only if we get enough people. So yeah, who's in?

True enough, but occasionally I do like the stereotypical fashion style. Not because it tries to be "counter-culture" or whatever, sometimes it just works.

Emo was a form of punk rock until people decided to be silly and plaster it on everything in sight. It basically has zero actual meaning now as it's been abused to no end. Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emocore)

Still...Emo and Goth mean nothing when said alone. Let's use Goth as an example. Are we talking Visigoths? Architecture? Victorian/Edwardian styled clothing? The offshoot of Punk rock, and the styles that followed? The modern day metal scene? What the heck do you mean!? XD

Yeah, you can't really generalize Goth because there's many facets of it. It's a shame most only associate it with what I would consider the punk goth.

Emo is a term that also pisses me off because it's overused and is almost always used to ridicule or belittle someone.

I myself am a bit ignorant about the Gothic subculture, although I do wish there were some in my high school, instead, I get stuck with the gangsters and rappers. A Wapanese metalhead just won't fit in in that kind of environment. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

But if there's anyone in PSOW I know of who knows his stuff about Gothic and stuff, it's Shadowdragon.

This isn't an argument about what's emo and what's not, or even the definition of the word. This is about trying to look dark and bloody and all that, yadda yadda.

For all intents and purposes, Emo and Goth are a fashion movement brought on by two very different kinds of music (I could go into this further, but I doubt anyone wants to listen). Basically, Goth is wearing black with studs, spikes, straps and chains and Emo is excessive eye shadow, tight dark clothing, and bangs that make it hard to see. Basically, if your characters look like they'd be thrown out of most churches on sight as satan worshippers or write depressing poetry about how nobody likes them, they'd qualify.

BTW, metal is not goth, though on rare occasions the fashions can appear similar.

Anyways, if this happens, I'm in. My cast can out emo you all!

It's a fashion show, so I highly doubt that writing depressing poetry'll help you lo.

I'll participate. Even though I grew up in the ghetto and my opinion and gothic isn't very....good. I was raised to think that people who dressed liek that worship the devil etc etc....

And honestly some people in my school who do dress that way do. But I have goth friends and they always look pretty and their personality is never what people make it seem. They're normal. They just stand out more than other people and people tend to not like people who stand out. Yeah sure I can be fitting of the Japanese influenced Puerto Rican gamer girl but I don't let that change the way that I am raised ghetto. Believe me, I still got that ghetto accent.....

My point is I still like the look.

I'll get a better shot later of that char and my cast also...

Shiro_Ryuu
Jan 23, 2008, 07:35 AM
I guess people are all different. I myself was raised in the ghetto, still living there, but you wouldn't believe that if you heard me speak. I just kind of tried to make myself more different, especially since I was a victim of bullying by gangsters back in middle school, so it made me hate them, and make me want to be something different, so I was like "Hey, I listen to Marilyn Manson, and I worship Satan.", that was enough to scare them off and make them leave me alone. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

you right emo was a form o punk, but not exactly. wat append is that when punk was still in its early times were it was called oi punk, oi punk was about the cockney lower class. punk wasnt a piece o fashion at all it was just the lower class rude little bastards (if you pardon the expression(i was lower class too >.>)) playing songs about the typical life with rich kids and all that jazz. but then the rich kids wanted to be just like that and started dressing in rags and old torn jackets with patches and stuff. thats when punk started declaring themselves dead becuase now you were able to pay your way into being a lower class brat. basically as time went by they began to try and make punk look pretty and thats how the stereotypical emo fashion started. and they received the name emo because there was a desease way back when were youd get cuts all over your body and some ppl called it emo.
some people declare punk isnt dead, and honestly i sure dont think it is, but eh wat you gonna do.

this is info handed to me from old members i know lol the oldest punks i know

Lolwhut? *facepalm*
I'm kind of at a loss for words to comment about this event. I will say this; pretending to be/cosplaying as a member of a real-life life-style & sub-culture if your *not* a part of it & don't really understand it is IMNSHO kind of dumb. Just as dumb as the "Whi**ers" phenomenon. Just my two-cents.

Now, for info on "what is Goth" please read this page:
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-goth.htm

FYI

Currently "Emo" a.k.a. "Scene" is an
over-commercialization and bastardization of some Goth-Punk aesthetics & some fashion elements; which includes superficial exaggerations of gothic modes of expression. Basically a "poser" version of "Goth" thats been adopted by mostly bored, wimpy,
middle-class teens, MCR fans, and kids that hang out/shop at Hot Topic stores.

Most are (typically) excessively over-dramatic, whiney and listen to (IMO) crappy music.
Most *Real* Goth/Gothic-inclined persons dislike the label "Goth" and even moreso dislike the "Emo"/"Scene" scene and all it's b.s. as shown here in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsw68COl-Cs

FYI:
These things NOT "Gothic"or"Goth":
Nu-Metal , "Black-Metal", any music style with screaming, barely discernable lyics.
Being overtly angry/in a rage or inately & overtly hateful.
Being overtly sad and overly emotional with no real, serious, appropriate, or genuine
reason(s).
Being a fan of shows like the O.C.
Being scared of fake blood, rats, snakes, or lizards.

BTW. This post is only meant to calmly express my opinion/p.o.v. and to inform, nothing more than that. Peace.

yea------ you do know you basically discribed your self on that last comment
also were talking about gothic as in gothic arichitecture not the music genre
plus like i said emo is not a fashion its a attitude who the hell cares how you look, you can look like freakin gangster and still be emo. its just that todays generation of american kids gotta complain about something, and emo insults are pratically being stuffed down everyones throats

also metal pratically is the same thing exept they beat the crap outa each other in shows for some reason, and bag on everyother genre as a defense

also that emo video yea-------- we classify them as neo nazis not metal or goth ppl. plus that guy was wearing a misfits shirt, wat are they stupid there one of the first punk bands to create the genre horror punk mixing punk and greasers that has nothing to do with the stereotypical emo thing all you kids hate so much

What "last comment" are you talking about? LOL. Sorry it'd take me months writting a autobiography to accurately "describe myself", which I have no intrest in doing. Nothing I wrote really "describes" myself much if at all. I expressed direct info, and my views based on my own observations and experiences and that is all.

Goth *fashion* and the social & life-outlook of the "Gothic-inclined" has little to nothing to do with gothic archetiecture(sp?).

And, FYI the guys in that video are NOT Neo Nazi's they are a sub-set of "Goth" know as Industrial Goth-Punk.

The video is a *comedy skit*, to show how many real "Goths" don't really like Emo's and Emo b.s.; no need to over-analyze it or taken all that seriously.

"Emo" as an "attitude" is IMO superfical, flawed and annoying IMO...

seph_monkey
Jan 24, 2008, 05:35 PM
the comment right on top of mine that last comment, i dont mean straight out ist liebe hitler nazi i mean neo nazi those type o ppl that just hate on something for no real reason
also i was mostly talking about the over dramatic part, and im not asking you to describe your self i mostly used your signature but thatll just me judging you and i dont really know you so sry about that

you cant mix goth and punk cause goth was a diffrent direction of punk, kinda like the emo thing was, so its just called goth.
punk is about uniting not trying to be hardcore

and its not that i took the video serious. more than i took it personally because i have friends who have gotten harrased by random idiots, just cause they cant dress the way they want. believe or not there are real ppl like that.
and no one treats my friends like

Sorry there's nothing "over-dramatic" in my signature. It's my RP character's dialogue, he's a 8000+ yrs. old half-human half dragon dark warrior that doesn't show much emotion if at all. It's meant to be symbolic, stoic, and only moderately dramatic, no more than that.
Screaming something like " THIS IS SPARTA!" Now *that* is over-dramatic...

FYI Real "Goth's" don't neccessarily hate "Emo" (some may), most just strongly dislike it.
Many do find "Emo" superficial, dumb and annoying.

It's hard to describe my feelings toward the whole 'emo' thing. On one hand they are annoying and stupid as hell but on the other its really no big deal cos theyre always offing themselves. It's like a problem that solves itself http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

God, people, get it the fuck right.

Emo is a lifestyle revolving around chasing explosive bunnies through city parks, usually pants are looked down upon during these festivities.

Goths, on the other hand, live on the Moon and attempt to channel the power of rhombuses to summon the ancient armies lying deep within the planet Jupiter, who resemble the guy on the Pringles cans.

Now shut up.

I know real Satanists. You're not one. Satanism doesn't actually have anything to do with christianity or the opposing of it. That's a false version of the actual religion, popularized by attention seekers and Anti-Christianity enthusiasts. While it may be a legitimate belief, as far as all belief is technically legitimate, it's not Satanism. The name is taken.

Also, Emo is a type of person and/or their perspective/attitude. Your religious preference doesn't have anything to do with it.

Now that I'm done with that~

Who hates me, again? I might attend, for sake of seeing an actual event made by the players, and even stay, so long as I'm not bombarded with whining or about how everything is pointless and we must hate it because we can with our angst~

necromancy has nothing to do with the gothic life style im gonna setle this right now on how goths and the variations dress.. and just because i used to have a thing for necromancy dont mean anything...

Goth:mainly its clothes from the victorian or midivil aira ( or close to that) male goths stick with the same thing supriseingly
as seen here a gothic female(my wife)(not the best version but damn close enuff)
http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii123/Blutfatal/l_243eaac405ef2e32897d4df9b860ba25.jpg

Cyber goth:is what most people think of what a goth is we ware some make up but mostly rave colors and what not.. common stuff are goggles and gas masks
as seen here (again not the best pic but damn close enuff)http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii123/Blutfatal/060607_15321.jpg
