Since I'm getting my new lappy soon, i'ma need me a controller. What do you guys suggest (performance and price-wise)?

I'm posting this here since posting something in the tech forum's like sending it to the graveyard. >_>

I got this for like, $20 at circuit city back then:

Naturally the price is what made me like it (still works fine to). http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

A bit more expensive than a cheap logitech or off name brand but very durable works nice with the unofficial drivers. the 360 controller IMo resembles the dreamcast controllers the most.

heres a lil guide made a long time ago for them http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=124663&forum=20

Ive got a Logitech Dual Action USB controller. It's "exactly" a PS2 controller and not shaped funny or larger..etc It also has the R1/R2 L1/L2 buttons Cost $20- at CompUSA.

Id stay away from the Wireless version, as it's cheaply made insdie and the buttons will stick after heavy mashing from my Cast and LV bullets

Edit:

Looks exactly like this but the one I have is all black and not blue. Majority of controllers Ive seen by Logitech have only 2 buttons between the dual action sticks, the one I have has a 3rd button and says mode- Mode allows me to use the 2 sticks in the game

Logitech ChillStream. Here in Russia it costs ~40$. Little expensive, but it's worth it.

Definitely get a 360 controller. It's the best controller out there (unless you're playing a 2D fighter).

used to use a ps2 controller adapter. got a 360 over the holiday season, and bought microsoft's wireless adapter for pc, which allows you to use all of their wireless goodies on a pc platform. I can say the difference in comfort between the ps2>360 controller is very noticable, and the 360 pad does offer a lot less stress on your hands over long play periods. plus, the wireless is a very very nice option.

if you already have a wireless 360 controller, I'd spend the 20 bucks on microsoft's wireless accessory receiver. If not, I'd get the wired 360 controller (around 30-40).

I used a 360 control because I think its more comfortable. Also if you do get a 360 controller make sure you get the PC version because its $10 cheaper for some reason(I paid $30 while there was a 360 controller next to it that said $40).

It used to be the other way around; PC version was 10$ more expensive because they shipped the driver CD with it, while the regular wired Xbox360 controller was cheaper. Anyway, bottomline; check prices.

I use a 360 controller too, with the unofficial drivers. It helps that I played the 360 beta first (and bought PC and 360 versions), so I basically configured the controller exactly like it was on the 360; I can enjoy both versions now without having to adapt http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Awesome, thanks for the responses. Just a couple more questions.
1. Where do they sell the pc version of 360 controllers? (both web-sites and stores)
2. Where do you guys buy the ps2-usb adapter? We don't have any radio shacks in a 30 or 40 mile radius, but when i did go to the one back where I used to live, they didn't have it. They actually didn't even know what i was talking about, so they just pointed me to a Logitech controller. >_>

I use a keyboard to play. I prefer it a lot over controllers, but when I need to autofire to level techs or bullets, it's either a Logitech Precision or a wired 360 pad. I can wedge a dime into either of them (R2/Button 8 and RB respectively) to hold down the buttons.

Hmm, best buy (Future Shop in Canada) should have them. I'm guessing EBgames do too. Anywhere they sell 360, they should have the controllers.

The ones I used back a few years ago where purchased straight from china, but nowadays, you get them from MadKatz and all those "cheap knock-offs" Kubara-like companies. You can most likely get your PS2-to-PC adapter at the same place you get your Xbox360 games and accessories, like the above mentionned EBgames, Best Buy or Future Shop.

I use the wireLESS Xbawks 360 controller. Came with the console, so I didn't need to buy any special controller for PSU. All I had to purchase extra was the wireless USB adaptor, which is only $20. Only problem is that I can't change the controls, meaning that I still have to use the keyboard to access menu... actually, it's not really a problem.

Any controller > keyboard.

Tip: They don't sell "PC Version" of 360 controllers. The 360 wired controller is USB 2.0 standard - and the drivers for it are already on your PC and will install automatically when you plug it in. They do sell a dock for the wireless controller in the case that you already have a 360. However, I would recommend getting the the wired controller since the L/R triggers aren't recognized.

With the wired controller - they have third party drivers which will fix the problem, but there are none for the wireless controller as of yet.

yeah, I just bought wired 360 controller at EB, took it home and plugged it in. Windows recognized it as a 360 controller and good to go.

The native drivers are decent enough to play, but you can't map anything to the LT and RT (trigger buttons) because they are seen as analog inputs by windows (because they are!). PSU wants digital buttons, which the unofficial drivers will provide gladly. This way, you can use the same control scheme that Xbox360 users are using.

But you can survive without them anyway. (I play with the native microsofts drivers on my work PC and the unofficial ones at home)
