Hello I'm new to Phantasy Star Universe. I got the first game for PS2, not the new Ambitions one. I'm trying out offline mode before i pay to play online. I don't know much about the game but in every game I like to be a magician or mage or whatever, but in this game its a little confusing. Can someone please help me out? I need to know how to get a wand or staff and how to get spells.

Thank you http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Mage in PSU is called Force or techer, since they use technics, something like 'magic'.
Newman starts out as Force by default, or you can change class to Force at Colony 5F.
Online there are other advance class types of Force. The direct advance type of Force is Fortetecher. There are also hydrids like Guntecher, Wartecher, & Acrotecher.

Buy them in shops. Also, in offline mode, there are no advanced classes. You just get souped up versions of the basic three.

Okay, thank you for your reply, in online mode Forcetecher uses fire, lightning, ice, dark, light, and healing, correct?

Foie(fire and attack buffs/debuffs), Barta(ice and defense buffs/debuffs), Zonde(lightning and speed & accuracy buffs/debuffs), Diga(earth), Megid(dark, instant kill, and a bunch of other fun stuff), Grants(light, healing, and magic buffs) are the basic elements of PSU. Any class capable of using a wand/rod/madoog(All classes in offline have access to this, but access is much more limited to these tools online) is capable of using any technique.

You also have basic prefixes:

no prefix: just a basic shot with the element. Some fire a ball, some fire a piercing ball, and others fire a piercing wave. Basicly, just line yourself up and send them flying.

Ra: causes an AoE effect in front of you. Basicly, the first of the nuking techs. The AoE range of the attack increases when it reaches certain levels, but the general idea is just to get enemies close to each other, and then let 'er rip.

Gi: Similar to Ra effects, but Gi centers the spell around your character. If you're surrounded on all sides, all you have to do is cast one of these and watch the pretty numbers fly.

Damu: Think flamethrower. You stand there and fire out a continuous stream that can be aimed. Pretty simple, pretty powerful.

Nos: Homing abilities. To use these, hold the button down like you would a Dam spell, but instead, you shoot out a ball(or in the case of Nosdiga, a wave) that homes in on an enemy. Once you release the button, the ball will explode, damaging the closest enemy.

Regrants is a unique spell, and the only light offensive spell. It sacrifices HP to send enemies flying. Your basic panic button spell. I've never used it, so I don't know too much on it.

There are plenty of other spells in the buff/debuff/heal catagory, but their naming conventions are more unique, so I suggest you just read those up on your own.

To use a technique, you have to set it to one of the PA slots on your wand/rod/madoog. Wands have two slots, and have the lowest PP(basicly, your ammo) of the three force weapons, but they only use your right hand. Madoogs have two slots, and have the lowest TP(tech power, how much damage you can do) of the three force weapons, but have the second highest PP, and are equipped on the left hand, leaving your right free for a weapon. Rods have the highest PP and TP of the force weapons, and have four slots, but require both arms to be used.

If you can equip a rod, wand, or TCSM (often refered to as Madoog) you can use any TECHNIC in the game. This applies to both online and offline. The only catch is that the only types (classes) that can use those types of weapons are Force, Fortetecher, Guntecher, Wartecher, and Acrotecher. Basically, techers.

To buy equipment and technics, you have to visit the stores. On the Guardians Colony 2F, there's a store on the right side that's generally red in color. Inside you'll find Weapon and Photon Art shops and can purchase the stuff you need.

The Guardians Colony 2F has Armor/Unit, Weapon/PA, Grinding, and Item shops all separated, but on other planets these features are all found in 1 place.

Parum: G.R.M. Shop (found at the end of West District)
Neudaiz: Yohmei Shop (found near the far end of town if you turn right after arriving)
Moatoob: Tenora Works Shop (found at the top of the hill if you turn left from arriving)

The Yohmei Shop in Ohtoku City on Neudaiz is the place you want to go. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Every weapons shop in the game carries wands/rods of various grades, and GRM weapons shop carries madoogs. In order to buy techniques, check the Disk shop, which is usually right beside the weapons shops(in the case of GRM shop, it's right behind).

Also, I forgot to mention that Wands have a faster casting time then the other weapons.

2F = Second Floor

I haven't played offline in awhile, so I'm not sure if it's exactly the same, but..

Online there are 6 NPCs in that shop. 3 on the left counter, 3 on the right. The left counter is for weapons, and the right counter is for Photon Arts. Generally, each NPC specializes in gear for Hunters, Rangers, and Forces. If the one you went too has mostly swords and melee weapons, that's not the one you want.

Offline it could just be one NPC with a long list of items, I can't say for sure. But you're in the right store. Just look through the list some more.

In offline mode of the original PSU, you'll have to play through a few chapters before you're given permission to fly to Neudaiz. It shouldn't be too many chapters in, though.

From there you can visit the Yohmei shop. But thinking about it that way, you should be able to get TECHNICs and Force weapons on the colony.

Hmmm i haven't seen any shops that have technics lol, unless Synthesis or whatever it's called is...but it says that shop isnt opened yet >.<

Are you playing as Ethan Waber right now?

EDIT: If I remember correctly, the ability to switch your type won't be available until a few chapters down the line. So until that point, you'll be stuck as a Hunter; though in offline, Hunters can use TECHNIC-casting weapons. But, I think that once the option to switch your type becomes available, many new weapons and photon arts will be added to the shops around Gurhal.

It's in the weapon shop. You said there were two NPCs to online's 6 NPCs.

One should be weapons and the other Photon Arts. Technics are included under photon arts

Yes but as i said before lol, i saw no rods or wands, i saw only sword, dagger, saber, double saber, double dagger, shotgun, double shotgun, and in the photon arts shop i only saw skills for those said weapons.

Then I guess it's like EspioKaos said, you need the Yohmei Shop for your TECHNIC needs...

Wow, nine laggy posts.....
But yeah, just play through the Story mode for a few chapters. After each chapter new items are added to the shops, so You'll just have to hold out a bit until you can get the types of weapons that you want.

Alright, the current mission I'm on at the moment is the one where i have to go to the relics with the Archiologist on Parum, how far is that from getting to Yohmei shop?

I think that it is either the next chapter, or the one that follows. I'm a bit hazy on it since it's been a while since I played the offline story.

If you get AotI, you can go to Neudeiz right after the first chapter.

Also, you can buy wands and techniques from the weapon shop in Clyze. Just scroll to the bottom of the list.
