SonicTeam just posted a schedule (http://phantasystaruniverse.jp/news/wis/?mode=view&id=598) for the next six months of PSU. Here's what to expect on the Japanese side of things.

January 2008
Chapter 4 of Episode 3.
Bruce's Dungeon S
A new type of mission, party member recruitment, will be added to the Dagora GUARDIANS Branch. This one will be called "Dagora Branch Reserves."
New items, clothes, parts and Casino Voloyal exchange items will be released.

Febraury 2008
Chapter 5 of Episode 3.
New field will be added with new free missions.
Her Secret Mission S
A new party mission will be added to Parum: "Her Hero is a Thief."
Another recruitment mission will be added.
Valentine's lobby
New partner machine types.
New items, clothes, parts and Casino Voloyal exchange items will be released.
Photon art EXP requirements will be adjusted. PAs that level very slowly will be made a little easier to gain levels.

March 2008
The Dengeki Mission Carnival will begin. I made a post a few weeks ago about the types of missions that will be available here. For more information, see this thread (http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=166882&forum=20).
Level cap will increase to LV140.
Photon arts level cap will increase to LV50.
Fighmaster, Gunmaster and Masterforce will be released.
White Day and Easter lobbies

April-June 2008
One chapter per month of Episode 3 will be released.
A special story-driven event will be released as the final chapter approaches.
Level cap will increase to LV150.
New field and with it new free missions.
New items will be released.
The next Guardians Boost Road will begin.
S2 ranks will be added to more Illuminus free missions.
Cherry blossom, Parum Unification, Sonic's birthday and wedding lobbies
New partner machines will be added.

That 'Dagora Branch Reserves' sounds interesting, wonder what it is.

I'm praying this means bullets and technics might level faster as well.

Also, anything known about these "recruitment" missions? They sound interesting.

And I guess the end of February and during March is when we'll finally start to learn about these Master classes. And the story-driven event sounds neat as well.

Bruce S is auto-fail. It's nice to see that they are making some PAs easier to level, but why now?

All in all it looks promising. I just hope there are some Lvl 150-200 enemies in there somewhere.

Alot of these look interesting, except with of course, one of those updates, you guys don't need to ask me which one it is, and I'm not sure we'll even need it seeing as how the S2 AoI missions are according to the bible. The rest looks pretty awesome though.

ok at last it seems SEGA are hearing the cries of Gunners every where with a PA EXP rate adjustment. Brilliant hopfully it means rifles and Xbows are easier to lvl after this update. Also seeing as its most likly a update to the base data (i.e. a server update) means we may get it the same time (not banking on it but its nice to dream) as Japan.

Nothing confirmed just yet. Unfortunately the site doesn't go into any detail on them. Whatever it is, though, we'll find out next week since the first one is scheduled for January. With only one week of the month left, Dagora Branch Reserves, Chapter 4 and Bruce's Dungeon S should all be released in next Thursday's update.

I'm a little disappointed that they won't be adding anything too big (lvl caps, ect) until March but at least I know when they finally plan on adding the new classes so I can take a break until then.

It’s time SEGA started a more rigorous update schedule, even though it’s the Japanese servers. I’m excited about all of those updates, new PM’s, new items, new recruits (I’m guessing this is where we get new trainers), hopefully ones with better AI.

I think Bruce’s will be fun. Hopefully the enemy lvl with be quite high, or least some mad mesta drops would be nice.

Although I’m most excited about the PA Exp rebalance. I think it’s kind of ridiculous that SEGA hasn’t fix this yet!!! I’m mean it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize some PA’s reach lvl 40 (certain melee skills--you guys know what I’m taking about) in a matter of three days and some bullets take several months. Maybe SEGA realized that a lvl 50 bullet/tech would take 1000+ hours by their silly equation for leveling them. Anyways…

Wow lvl 140 and lvl 50 skills by three months. I’m with you Indica, these new S2 mission NEED to have some serious enemies or there will be little challenge. I wish they would bring back the Nightmare Missions from PSO. …or a least bring back the big nastys, like the Dark bringer.

Master classes, awesome!!! Finally I can use all S-rank guns as a gunner. Imagine that.

This is good news. It's really hard to level techs, so I'm really behind on those. I don't feel any melee PAs besides Dugrega need to be boosted, but bullets and techs really need a boost.

Two more months until we see what these things are... Meh, I can wait. I just want to know their item and skill distribution.

This sounds interesting. I'm glad their integrating the story into the game. But, I'm worried about that whole "Final Chapter" thing. Shouldn't they only be on ch.5 by now?


The next Guardians Boost Road will begin.

It takes this long to get from one boost to another? I would have thought they would have changed every month.


New partner machines will be added.

We've seen two of these... Since I think they already have the bathing suit, little boy, and butler PMs, and by now they would have got the hippo, does this mean we're getting a PM type we don't know about?


It's always fun seeing what we're getting. I wish PSUna got a list like this...

Nope. Got Killer Shot, Dark Shot and Frozen Shot to 30 running Grove of Fanatics for three months from the time GoF S2 was released (on my alt character). On the other hand, I was using Barta since I started the game. My first character was a male neuman techer. I got Barta to 30 in November.

In the mean time, I started leveling Mayalee Shot two days ago. It is level 10 already after about 12 total hours of play (~6 hours a day). I know you cannot level Barta, Zonde, or Megid to 10 that quickly.

For one thing Barta, Zonde and Megid kill creatures rather quickly even as a guntecher now. With bullets I can just spam shoot a robot, shielded Vahra, shielded Vanda or any other resistant enemy and level it. Sometimes even in one mission if you use the AFK bullet leveling method.

For Barta, I have to find a large group of enemies in a decent choke point to get a good level going. Something like Sakura, Sleeping Warriors, Grove of Fanatics, or train rescue where there are a large amount of RTSD type enemies in a single location.

For another thing, Rifles are mobile and relatively safe. You can aim them where ever you please and stand in a safe location while shooing most things. Barta will travel up hill and zonde and megid will go over gaps, but both of those spells fizzle out at in the face of any obstacle. There is no standing at the top of a platform and shooting down at enemies that constantly respawn. That's reserved for nos techs. There is no sitting behind a rock and shotting at the dumb Vahra on the other side of the rock. That's where the bow or Dam techs come in.

Lasers don't even have as many problems as line techs. You can go to almost any mission and level them because they can be aimed in any direction like a rifle. Because of that you aren't limited in the types of missions you can do, and you can go with a low level protranser if you want to reduce your power while shooting so you get more shots per creature spawn.

Add onto that you can get affected by Jellen while using a rifle which is even better for those trying to power level who don't want kill creatures as quickly as possible. There are no tech down spells that you can be affected with so once you reach a certain class level you are stuck.

About the best you can do is throw the tech on a cast force level 1, but that's only good to level 20.

Then as a gunner, bullets are much cheaper than techs. Burning Shot 30 costs 12 PP. 9 if you are a Fortegunner. Plus bullet PP save and Mizurakihoh which can grind to over 2000 PP all without any reduction of speed.

As a techer, the more times you cast, the better your tech levels. This means har/quick over tech/pp save. Madoogs and Wands over Rods (for the power reduction and quicker casting time, plus bonus PP). Barta level 30 costs 16 (12 as a fortetecher, but acrotecher is better to level spells on for the quicker cast times).

For the PA skills, Killer Shot costs 38 Megid costs 30. Killer Shot has the same speed as a reguler bullet. Megid casts slower than Barta or Zonde (although not as slow or as expensive as it was pre expansion). Wand+Madoog combo for the best PP is Cometarac (1182 PP at 10 grinds) with Doric (1629 PP at 10 grinds) which takes you to a total of 2811. The best rifle for PP currently is Mizurakihoh which has 2092 PP at 10 grind.

On a pallet with 16 weapons, you can have 8 wand+madoog combos or 16 rifles brining the total to 22488 PP for wand+madoog and 33472 for the Rifles. Almost 11000 more PP in the same amount of pallet space. Or you could have 16 10 grinded dorics which is 26064 PP.

In a battle of who's stuff takes longer to level, gunners have all of the advantages over techers. The main problem is that as a gunner you have to level up 6 bullets per weapon. For a techer, you can select which techs you want to level.

Sure I leveled Dark Shot, Killer shot and Frozen Shot to 30 in the time it took me to get barta to 30. Sure I got Burning Shot to 30 in the time it took me to finish off megid. I'll probably even be able to finish off Grav Shot (22 currently) and Zonde (25 currently) at around the same time if I use them both equally between my main and my first alt. But then I'm done with the line techs and I still have Mayalee Shot (10 currently), Rising Shot (17 currently) and Plasma Shot (lvl 2) to work on.

Of course silly me, I sold Rabarta 31 to the NPC because I thought I was delivering it to my room so I have to start over again on that. Fortunately Rabarta only took me a week of power leveling (Valley of Carnage S2 Vanda are perfect for leveling Ra spells) to get to 31.

I can't wait for Bruce S, and w/e the reserves are.

I hope when we get the new missions in February they come in S2 flavors.
Im gonna play that Parum mission the day it comes out and then guide nubs around the level showing them where everything is.... (I do that with every special level, event and party missions)

PAs and a LVL cap all after the Pas are easier to lvl, and we get an event!? Im starting to think SEGA doesnt want us to try anymore lol.
It just says PA cap is raised to 50, it doesn't say for who, i wonder if its for advanced too or just for the master classes.

Also nice to see that in June the story is starting to come to a climax. Maybe the last story mission's in July, then August/september they'll get their next expansion, then we'll get ours in october lol.

Not sure why so many people are hating HSM S. I'll play it if only to hunt Shi-kikami from the two Kagajibari at the end. Seems like a much faster and easier run to do than Rainbow Beast.

All I know is Elemental Rifle bullets take 20-25 hours depending on how much you miss, time spent shooting vs. walking, etc. It did NOT take me 60 hours to finish Barta. The only PAs I've leveled where there is a 3x or greater time difference is between Rifles/Megid/Barta and the faster leveling melee PAs (lolwhips are even higher). On average though, I think techers and gunner are sitting in similar boats. Outside of Megid and Barta, tech leveling isn't particularly painful.

Nothing exciteing in these updates? You guys crazy? New S difficulty on party missions, for those who want a challenge or just something different. PA adjustments and increases! Character level increase. New lobbies, and various new missions. New events, new clothes, etc. All within a mentioned rough time line.
What's NOT to be excited about?

And here ppl have been wondering WHEN we'd get all these. Now we kinda know what wer're getting first in order.
I'm definately looking forward to all of this. And am afraid if I'd ever have enough time to enjoy them all WHILE rare hunting for myself. @_@

Better late than never. Might give inspiration for more upcoming Gunner/Techers to continue with the class.

I thought it was kind of funny how no one makes any use of the "Looking for Party" Flag feature when you switch over to it and instead went with the spazzing spammer method or forcing you to as well if you wanted a party. The way Firebreak had you make a party was the best imo, maybe the recruitment method will be similiar or better.

The Master Classes dropping will be interesting, wonder how much or little they break the game (RIP Hybrids? Fortes? Who knows...).

Before this event HSM Was a good place to level and get nice mp. The run only takes 11 mins for me and my sis to run. We can't one chip(the 3 button one). But still, I used that for my alts. It is fast and I think it is a fun run. As for the other stuff, can't wait for new missions and the storyline.

Dude that's total BS. I know barta is hard to level, but how high is your highest Laser PA...I bet not that high. It's the same frickin thing as Barta. Besides, it's almost better not to aim the laser, and just straif the same way you would use barta. It doesn't matter what mission you do, it's the same thing when it comes to level PA's for pack enemy types

Indeed, especially the bit on the PAs. So what about all the people that got Megiverse/Barta/Zonde/*insert hard to level PA name here* to 31+ or something with the "old" values? If the old values for PA X take 30,000 hits to reach 40, and the new ones only take 25,000, what's the point of leveling PAs up now? This is really the only "loleasy mode" change they've made that I'm actually bothered by.

Oh well...hopefully it won't be too drastic of a change. =|

EDIT: desturel, hate to say it, but when it comes to leveling TECHNICs, ur doin it rong. If you can't get Barta/Zonde/Megid to 10 in 12 hours...you probably weren't trying to level them or something. I got Megid to 21 in around that amount of time doing Linear Line A.

I'm a bit worried about no S3 missions unless some of the AotI S2 missions are going to be hard as hell. (Which I hope they are) Of all things though, I'm most excited about the PA exp adjustment. I really, really hope this will make bullet and tech lvling easier. You shouldn't HAVE to afk lvl bullets for example to get anywhere with them. Just look at how naturally melee PAs lvl. Techs and "especially" bullets should be the same or close to melee PAs when it comes to difficulty of lvling.

Yeah, no S3 is total crap. I should take a break for a year so all the content can catch up. They're just making this game easier and easier. The only hard missions are on Moatoob and nobody even parties there. Level cap + event = lame. Don't increase the exp.

Ah, I forgot about the classy parts. Yes, japan doesn't have those yet (PSU-uploader would let me know if they did), and I don't think they have the male cast set in the top middle.
Now I'm kind of disappointed. Is this really all we're getting in terms of parts? Not that it matters, I can create a caseal and cast to my liking quite easily...

Il Cabo should be one of the new fields. Also the Moatoob RELICS. I think they might already count the PSO caves, mines and ruins as released since they're accessible (in VR form) as a mission at GUARDIANS HQ.

I'd be willing to put some footwork behind that theory. If anyone would like to join me, we can spend a day leveling Rifle, Barta, Dugrega or what ever other slow leveling skill you might have and see what it looks like at the end of the day for each person.

I could restart my plasma shot as there aren't any real levels on it anyway (and it doesn't cost any PA frags like starting over Mayalee Shot would). Or a real gunner can do plasma and I can instead start Dugrega. I do have to wonder about choosing linear line A instead of S or S2. Most of the stuff in linear line A die in a couple of shots for me, but whatever works for you. Foie and diga as well.

I believe the MAG mission is still available at C-A, with none of the increased drop rates/exp/decreased HP MAG had.

Dunno if they have plans on releasing a "pure" mission for each/any of them though (aside from the one that's on Moatoob, I suppose).

EDIT: Sorry if that came off as offensive desturel...I didn't know if you were comparing how they casually level, or comparing the rate at which they can be power leveled. The reasoning for choosing A is because on S, everything hops around too much/is just a general annoyance. Photon art EXP requirements will be adjusted. PAs that level very slowly will be made a little easier to gain levels.

From what I've seen of the Phantom Forest mission I think they'll release full versions of each PSO area. Chances are we'll see something like a rare mission for each planet (Caves for Neudaiz, Mines for Parum, ect) and possibly seperate versions of these missions on Dark Ryucross. That's a big "if" on two versions since the only things I'm going on are: 1) At the very end of "Phantom Forest" there is a gate infront of the normal area line with a text box like you'd see when going to a new area/lobby, and 2) The last lobby on Ryucross shows no sign of SEED infection so it's possible future lobbies on that planet might be like that too.

Now, on the text box you saw at the end of Phantom Forest, what did it say? Or did you take a screen shot of it that I could translate? Unfortunately I didn't grab a screen shot of the end of that mission, and since I can't really read japanese outside of katakana I'm not sure what the text said. I can grab a shot of it though next time I run into that mission and send it to you if you want.

Katakana is easy. All it is, is foreign or foreign-sounding words. Stuff like Basketball, Adeiu and Computer are usually written in katakana. So all you need to do is find a katakana chart and learn the symbols, which is a snap ^_^. From there it's just sounding the word out and making an interpretation.

Now Hiragana and Kanji is a whoooole 'nother playing field. That's the stuff that takes a while.

I can read Katakana pretty well, but its tougher for me to read than Hiragana because I'm never really using Katakana too much since nowadays, especially when talking to friends online, I just type foreign [non-Japanese] words in English letters and everything else that is Japanese in Hiragana or Kanji.

Right, Phantom Forest has a chance of randomly appearing at any mission counter on Moatoob after completing a mission. When you finish this mission, you'll be spit out at whatever lobby you would've gone to had Phantom Forest not appeared.
